Chapter 1: The Temple In The Sky

By: Kadeana

Legend told of a temple. A temple that only appeared to those it sought. Some would say that it was a gift to be chosen by the temple. Others would say it was a curse. Just know, that once you enter it, your life would never be the same.

Julia Chang stood in the office of the man who financed all her work, rather it be archeological or environmental. His real name was unknown to her. The name he gave her was Fitzgerald. She held him in high regard. If it not for him, she would be somewhere slowly wasting away dwelling on the loss of her reforestation data, as she tried without success to match the reforestation data she lost.

At twenty-three, Julia had accomplished much in her life. She’d fought in the King of Iron Fist tournament more times than she can count. Not that was an honor high up there on her list. Every time she’d entered the tournament, it was in her mind a personal tragedy behind it.

Teaming up with Doctor Boskonovitch, she was finally able to complete her data. Now forests such as the Amazon were now being replanted with plant life that actually last longer than a month or two. It was a personal accomplishment to begin the reforestation of parts of America, her homeland.

In the quest for natural energies, big companies, such as the Mishima Zaibatsu, caused worldwide destruction to Nature. Deserts had slowly started to expand into areas once green and flourishing. It had started small over the years, but as Julia reached adulthood, the problem started to become very apparent to Julia and the people of her tribe.

They were sworn to protect Earth, and as the granddaughter of the princess of the tribe, Julia did not hesitate to take action. She’d put her dreams of archeology on the back burner so she could do what was expected of her.

Fitzgerald looked at her with his odd eyes. One of his eyes was a dark blue; the other was dark green. They stood out in contrast with his black hair and olive colored skin. His orange business suit was to tight for his skinny body. His personality matched his weird appearance.

“Have you ever heard of the Temple of the Sky?” He asked in his odd accent she could never quite place.

“Yes,” she replied.

“Elaborate,” he commanded twirling his pen in his hands.

“Scrolls found in the late twenties told of such a temple,” she replied. “It only appears to the chosen ones. Once inside they are gifted with different abilities to combat evil forces that has arisen to destroy Earth.”

“Right,” he replied nodding. “The chosen ones have to work together using their new found abilities to overcome any threat.”

“What interest do you have in the temple?” Julia asked curiously.

“It was spotted by someone a few days ago,” he replied cautiously.

“But it hasn’t been seen in over a thousand years,” Julia said her brown eyes shining with interest. “Is this sighting valid?”

“Very valid,” he replied leaning back in his chair.

“That means the person who saw it…”

“Is a chosen one,” he finished for her, “and will eventually be inside going through various test to have their meeting with destiny.”

“Who is it?” Julia asked, her hands clasping together.

“A young woman from Brazil,” he replied. “I’m telling you because she’s here in Arizona and here’s where she saw the temple.”

“This is huge,” Julia said shocked.

“I want you to go to that location and see if you can get inside that temple,” he said simply.

“But that is impossible,” Julia said. “Only people who are chosen can enter it.”

“Then I need you to bring the chosen one to me,” he said. “I want an artifact off the floating temple and she obviously is the key to get it.”

“What’s her name and address?” Julia asked getting her notepad and pen out of her purse.

“Her name is Christie Monterio, and she’s a student at Arizona University.”

Christie, Julia thought. The name seemed familiar to her.

He went on to give her the address of Christie’s apartment. When Julia left, he smiled. Two of his pawns were in place. Now it was time to place the third.

Twenty-year-old Christie Monterio paced her apartment like a mad women. Her steps seemed to match the beat of her heart. Her long lush brown locks were pulled back in a hasty ponytail. Her usually flamboyant attire was reduced to an old gray sweat suit.

She awaited the call from the History director at the University. Doctor Miguel Sanchez was the only person she trusted with her information. If anyone else caught wind of Christie’s situation, she would be the laughing stock of the campus.

Miss Look-at-me-I’m-perfect Christie is a mad woman. I knew it all along! She walks around like she owns the place! Well look at her now? Preaching about seeing flying pyramids that tried to beam her up to see ET phone home and such crap. She’s stupid and crazy.

Christie groaned. She knew she had more enemies than friends at the campus. It wasn’t her fault that people so judged books by their covers. Just because she dressed in a certain way and had a tendency to be a tad flamboyant, didn’t mean she wasn’t a nice person. It didn’t mean she looked down on other people. It didn’t mean she was immune to the snide comments behind her back.

She had more guy friends then girls. To the girls that meant she was a slut. To the guys, it meant they found a friend who gave them objective advice about women, who could play video games better than any guy; and who could eat just as much pizza if not more so. To Christie it meant that most females at her school were hypocritical liars.

When her phone rung, she vaulted over her couch to get to it. “Dr. Sanchez,” she said quickly.

“Hello, Christie,” he said.

“What can you tell me?” she blurted out, forgetting the curtsies etched in her brain since she was a little girl. Her grandfather would turn over in his grave if he knew.

“What you saw was very real,” he said honestly. Duh, Christie thought. “It was not a UFO. Well, it wasn‘t an extraterrestrial UFO.”

“I am interested in knowing what it was,” Christie pointed out. “I’ve never seen anything like it, and Sir I’ve seen some very weird stuff.”

“The Temple of the sky,” he said honestly. “Research it.”

“Is that what I saw?” Christie asked.

“A colleague of mine has sent one of his archeologist to interview you on the circumstances of your sighting,” Doctor Sanchez revealed. “She will be able to determine if what you saw is in fact the temple. She will be there shortly.”

“She’s not from the college, is she?” Christie inquired hesitantly. If she is, forget it.

“No,” he replied. “Her name is Julia Chang and if that was in fact the temple, she can brief you on it and what it means for you to be the one to see it.”

“What if it wasn’t the temple?” Christie asked twirling a few strands of her hair around her finger.

“What else could it be?”

“Thank you for believing in me,” Christie said softly. “I don’t even know if I would’ve believed me.”

“I have a lot of faith and you Christie,” Doctor Sanchez revealed. “Julia is one of my former students. She is very driven and honor bound. She will not reveal the information you give her to no one but my colleague, who is somewhat of a expert on the temple.”

“I’ll let you know how it goes,” Christie said hanging up. She glanced around the apartment. The usually neat interior was somewhat cluttered. She tidied the place up the best she could under the circumstances.

I’ve heard the name Julia Chang before, She thought. But where?

Anna Williams sat across from Fitzgerald, whom she lovingly called Fitz, staring flirtingly into his odd eyes. Anna found him about as attractive as the lizard from the Geico commercials, but flirting came naturally to her.

If guys sold out their country, family, and very souls because of a flirty glance, comment, or gesture it wasn’t her problem; it was their hang up. She had no qualms about capitalizing on their failures.

Nothing could have brought her to Arizona of all places except Fitz. From the tone of his message it sounded as if finally after all these years, she would get a chance to crack the mystery that was Fitzgerald. Who was he? Where did his unlimited funds come from? Why did he look so odd?

“I suppose you are wondering why I called you to America,” he said in that accent that she could never quite place.

“The thought crossed my mind,” she replied her hands sitting demurely in her lap. “But of course you know I’d go to Hell and back for you Fitz.”

“Charmed,” he said smirking. She gave him her real smile, which was innocently pretty. He was one of the few men who knew the real Anna. Most men would be tongue tied at the little red dress that looked like it had been painted on, but her charms were wasted on him. “You complete the circle I have created.”

“The Circle of Life?” Anna joked dimpling.

“A Circle of Destiny,” he replied. “You have been chosen.”

“For what; jury duty?” she asked at a loss. She ran her fingers through her brunette chin length hair.

“You and six others hold the fate of this world in your hands,” he replied honestly.

Anna looked at him her demeanor finally serious. “Do you need me to take care of someone?” she asked carefully. Fitz had never asked her to assassinate someone. He usually had her sneaking into high level places and stealing mystical objects. Fitz paid her big money for small jobs such as that, but they both knew what her true specialty was.

“No, no one human anyway,” he replied. “You, my darling Anna, are the guardian of time. You will soon be able to bend it to your lovely will.”

“I don’t understand,” she said her forehead furrowed.

“This planet has chosen you as one of its protectors,” Fitz replied. “You are the leader of my group of three. You are the co-leader of my group of six.” She still looked unconvinced. “For the powers you will eventually have, will turn the wheels of fate in our favor.” She stood up and leaned over his desk to stare at him closely.

“You’re serious,” Anna said in shock.

A/N: The other characters that will be involved in this tale is Lei Wulong, Jin Kazama, and Steve Fox. They will be the final six. I haven’t decided if I will introduce any of the other Tekken characters and if I do they will most likely be puppets of the dark side. The genetic powers will be borrowed from different characters from different shows and comics, but I will add my own flare to them. I hope you enjoy.
