Chapter four: Slytherin Bond

"Beneath the walls
Of the school
A dungeon trap
Against the rule
Beyond the corridor
To the right
Hold your breath
To view the sight
Here lies the secrets, sick
Of lies and hates
Come now, be quick
Before the door closes."

A thin, high voice sang through the halls- but people walked on as if nothing was heard. Only one girl could hear the frail calls of the voice. Jasmine Surligneur stared blankly ahead in fear.

"It's back for me."

"Swear word swear word swear word!" A blonde muttered to herself, running down the halls. People snickered as she muttered to herself.

"Shut up," Jasmine yelled at them, but this only made them laugh at her even , at least at my old school I was just the school outcast, here, I'm the Slytherin outcast...but is that really better?

"Mind you, my father works for the ministry!" She added, but as a janitorial worker his powers were limited. The snickers only continued in softer tones.

She was off to Potions her most "favorite" subject of all. Scratch that- she was the worse student in class, and Snape had a lovely way of making that point obvious. The fact was, she was quite talented in that subject- but due to lack of confidence her potions were spoiled.

"Look Jazz, it's those stupid Ravenclaw Twins..." a voice murmured into Jasmine's ear. A cold, pale arm gripped her own and Pansy appeared at her side.

"Have you even talked to them? You can't rightly call them stupid if you don't know for sure," Jasmine replied, untangling her arm from Pansy's grasp.

She felt envious to the two- the darker, longer haired one was probably the prettiest girl in school, but she wasn't snotty or disconfigured personality wise. The other wasn't quite as pretty, much she had the innocence of a small child that made her cute, not only that but she had brains to go with it. Their last name gave quite a stir among the students of Hogwarts as well.

"Who cares? Everyone keeps talking about them like they're famous or something, even my dearest Draco..." Pansy moaned as if she was dying.

"What was that about me Pansy?" A drawing voice called. Jasmine turned, flushing heavily, as she saw Draco walk towards them with Crabbe and Goyle trailing behind.

"Nothing! How was your day, Drakie?" Pansy asked, flinging herself around his neck. He coughed at the excess hair in his face and replied with a shrug. Jasmine knew it was because Pansy was probably one of the few girls in school who gelled her hair- and she didn't gel, she GELLED...with give different brands, afterwards she'd hairspray it at least ten times with three unique scents.

"It's still the morning, not much day to review...now please get off," Draco replied, sliding himself out from under Pansy's embrace. Pansy pounted, but Malfoy didn't even glance at her.

'He's so cool! If I wasn't friends with Pansy though, he'd never know my name...but still, he is, after all, Pansy's boyfriend...' Jasmine thought, sighing slowly.

"What's with the depressed sigh?" Draco shot at Jasmine. She shrugged in reply, trying to cover herself up to make her seem "cool."

"We're going to be late for Potions if we don't hurry up..." Jasmine added hastily as she bounded forward.

"Oh, as if Snape would care..." Draco replied idly, but followed her along.

"It's only the fifth day of term and look how tired I am!" Akane exclaimed, pulling at the bags under her eyes. Faye grinned at her hopeless sister.

"Well if you weren't so caught up in drooling over Conner and Harry it wouldn't be a problem..." Faye replied. The two sisters walked down the hallways side by side, they had different classes but in the same directions. Besides that fact, they had much to discuss for the previous day they had had no classes together.

"Th-that's not the point..." Akane drifted off.

"Right, right..." Faye said. "...and you don't have a picture of Harry under your pillow dancing with a lampshade on his head," Faye concluded sarcastically, tapping Akane on the forehead.

"Shh, that's a secret!" Akane joked in mock seriousness, and they erupted into laughter.

"Hey you, girly," a boy presented himself in front of Akane,"you and me, Hogsmede, what do you say?"

"Sorry, I'm already going with someone," Akane said politely, but there was a hint in her voice that even if she hadn't had Conner she wasn't planning on going with the poor boy in front of her.

"Oh ok...so what about you?" He questioned, looking at Faye.

"You don't even like me, not only that, you don't even know my name..." Faye answered. She knew the boy liked Akane, got dumped, tried to score points with the Ravenclaw twins by dating the "other one."

"Morning Akane, Faye," Deryl greeted from behind.

"Morning..." Akane mumbled carelessly.

"Morning! Where are Hermione, Ron, and Harry?" Faye questioned.

"Coming...but we'd better get to Transfiguration now Akane...you know how McGonagal is about being on time..." Deryl warned.

Pfft, McGonagal? What about Snape? Faye thought.

"Oh...mkay, bye Faye, later."

"Ciao Akane," Faye echoed and they set off.

"Do you guys think Faye's been acting a bit weird lately?" Hermione asked her two companions as they made their way to Potions. Ron shrugged. Harry shrugged.

"Harry, wouldn't you of all people know? You spent the whole afternoon with her yesterday!" Hermione exclaimed.

"I don't notice these things..." Harry replied. "I'm not a girl like you..." Hermione shot him a nasty look then continued on with her theory.

"Goodness, she's a new girl at our school- she might be hiding something very serious, she may get in trouble for!"

"Oh," the two thick-headed boys remarked.

"Can you get anymore oblivious?" Hermione cried in fustration, then dashed off.

"Today we will concoct any potions for we have news to the students...we being Professor McGonagal and I," Snape droned on, obviously bored- as always.

"Morning to all, a new course of classes is being offered at Hogwarts- muggle studies to help improve skills we may need in future uses, Professor Snape will be handing out a list of, what we shall call, electives list...please read them carefully, for once sign-ups are done your choices are permanent. You are able to take more than one class, however, you must take one at the least..."

"Cheerleading? A group of people leading another group about screaming?" Ron read.

"It sounds interesting to me..." They heard Malfoy drawl behind them, Faye and Hermione, the only ones who actually understood cheerleading, giggled at his response.

"Silly, cheerleading is a sporting event that has a group of kids cheering on a team or affair or some sport..." Hermione explained.

"So, why wouldn't I be qualified for that?" Malfoy asked.

"Because usually they're girls!" Faye replied.

"Well I shall break the tradition!" Draco remarked as if it were plain as day.

"If Drakie is going to do Muggle Cheerleading...so am I! Although I disprove muggle at all, but it is required..." Pansy exclaimed from behind. "Jasmine, you will be joining as well, right you are?"

"Um, sure..." Jasmine said.

"Do you have to do whatever she tells you to?" Faye asked.

"I do not do everything she tells me to!" Jasmine exclaimed.

"Jasmine stop talking to them..." Pansy commanded.

"Ok..."

"Hello Hermione," Deryl greeted, leaning back on a wall, licking his hand then slicking his hair back. He winked and made a clicking sound with his teeth.

"Haha, Hi Deryl!" Hermione laughed.

"So...you wanna go with me to Hogsmede this weekend...?" Deryl asked.

"Well, um..." Hermione hesitated. Please say yes...

Jasmine and Pansy were walking to the Great Hall together, Pansy skipping around in a tight skirt, Jasmine looking away...

"Don't forget your past
It's still there, girl
Wake up..."

Jasmine shook it off. She was so lost in thought she tripped over her own shoe..

"You are such a klutz Jazz," Pansy said, rolling her eyes, but not bothering to help her up.

"I am SO SORRY, that my clumsiness is SO terrible," Jasmine remarked moodily, tired of Pansy's primses.

"Did you just back talk me, Jazzy?"

"No, it was the truth, gosh..."

"You are so disrespectful to me!" Pansy turned away in false drama.

"I'm sick of your simpering and silly nick names, I'm not your slave you know!"

"W-what?" Pansy asked, and slapped the girl across the face. Jasmine only turned away leaving Pansy alone in the crowd.

"I think I might try Gymnastics, or technology- which do you perfer Luna?" Ginny asked.

"Well, Tech sounds interesting...I want to know how they can use a mouse to work machinery..." Luna conversatinally added.

"Yeah and..." Ginny paused in mid-sentence as something brushed by her, knocking Luna over. A girl dashed by, running and tearing at the time, but nobody seemed to notice...or care.

"Um, Luna you go on ahead, I'll get back with you..." Ginny commened, and ran off.

"Hey...hey you!" Ginny called, Jasmine stopped and turned around. "You're...ok, aren't you?" She asked, out of breath.

"What would you care? And even if, I'm fine!" Jasmine argued rubbing a tear away, trying to hide the evidence.

"I get concerned when I see somebody sad, it's an odd quirk of mine...I just don't like seeing people depressed..." Ginny comforted.

"So...would you be ready to hear the whole story?" Jasmine asked.

"I have all the time..."

"Surligneur!" A sharp voice called. Malfoy.

"I'm sorry...I have to go," Jasmine slowly rose up and walked to him.

"Come with me..." he pulled on her arm. "Getting slapped by Pansy in front of everyone, talking with a blood traitor...running off crying, do you want to make a fool of yourself?" he lectured.

"I-I'm sorry!" Jasmine said, bowing.

"Why do you need to apologize all the time? I'm just telling you...that you need to be more careful..." Malfoy continued. He gingerly placed a hand where Pansy had slapped her. "It doesn't look too bad, it'll probably be gone by tomorrow..." he muttered as Jasmine blushed.

"Well, what does that matter anyway?" Jasmine shrugged it off, then walked away.

"Where are you going? We should walk back together!"

"Oh...sorry!"

"Quit apologizing!"

"Sorry, but I--"

"STOP IT!"
