Inside the Fire Country

Three shinobi walked down a path framed by lush green plan life. One, a boisterous blond, another a brooding dark haired man. The third, a silver haired entity holding an orange book to his face, concealing his masked features.

The noisy boy sighed loudly. “I wonder what Sakura Chan looks like now, I bet she’s prettier than last time I saw her,” he said, his arms stretching to the sky.

“Hn," came the ebony haired boy’s response, as he kept his stride, his hands buried in his pocket’s. A stoic expression set upon his face as he strived for his sight to never waver betrayal on the road ahead.

The blonde, Naruto, sighed once more when it became plainly obvious that his passive friend wasn’t in the mood for conversation. He then plastered on his trademark fox like grin and turned to his silver haired senpai, who was formerly his sensei.

"Ne, Kakashi, what do you think Sakura chan is like now? You were the one who saw her last,” questioned Naruto with a curious expression.

Kakashi, who had been deeply immersed in his infamous ‘Icha Icha Paradise' book said nothing.

Much to the chagrin of the blonde by his side.

Naruto huffed exasperatedly. "C’mon Kakashi, tell me. Please, please,” he begged childishly.

Kakashi eventually sighed and closed his beloved orange book. He then proceeded to put it in his shuriken holster. All at a painstakingly slow pace, and so testing the blonde boy's ability to be patient.

Naruto grew edgy with Kakashi’s obvious ploy to irk him after a few ten seconds. "Don’t exert yourself,” he said dryly, sarcasm dripping from his words.

Kakashi smiled from under his mask. "Well Naruto, it’s been five years, what do you think she’ll be like?” he retorted sarcastically.

Naruto glared at him, his features reading annoyance.

Kakashi smiled once more, the boy was truly fun to irritate.

“Fine, Fine,” he drawled at last, his eyes still on the forest path that was guiding them.

“The last time that I talked to her was two months after you left, and right then she seemed alright, or at least that was what she appeared to be like,” said Kakashi offhandedly.

Naruto’s eager look urged him on.

“The last time that I saw her was during one of my missions, she most likely didn’t see me though,” he added.

Naruto frowned, “But weren’t all your missions ‘A’ ranked or above?” he asked.

Kakashi nodded, “I was surprised to see her there too, so I radioed back to Konoha, and was told that there was a Chunnin mission going on there,” he explained.

Naruto smiled,“ So Sakura chan did make it to Chunnin level, that's great," he smiled.

Kakashi smiled. “And a very good one too, or so I heard, but that was three years ago,” he said.

Naruto glanced at Sasuke who was still staring ahead, his eyes a less smoldering obsidian, and a smirk on his face.

“Look Kakashi, even Sasuke bastard is proud of Sakura chan,” he said tauntingly, his head gesturing at the dark haired boy, whose smirk now vanished, replaced by a good natured scowl.

“So, what did she look like?” asked Naruto, his attention focused once more on Kakashi.

Kakashi smiled,” Well, she was probably fourteen when that happened, so she hadn’t changed much, but she did keep her hair short, and she changed her attire, but that could have just been for the mission…”

Naruto grinned, “Then we’ll just have to wait until we get to Konoha,” he said, his eyes shining with anticipation.

Kakashi smiled, he looked forward to seeing his former student.

Sasuke smirked again, He was glad that she had made chunnin rank, and couldn’t wait to see her, there were so many things that he wanted to tell her.

“Hey Kakashi, do you think Sakura chan would go out with me?”

“…”

"...Dobe."

Konohagakure-Hidden Leaf Village

Ino smiled at the three. “Wow all of you certainly have grown,” she said appraisingly, her eyes taking the elevator route of inspection.

“Speak for yourself Ino, you turned totally hot,” said Naruto teasingly, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

Ino blushed softly. “You didn’t turn out half bad either Naruto baka,” she said slightly surprised at Naruto’s forwardness.

The four were sitting in an almost deserted bar in Konoha, with pretty much the only shinobi who wasn’t on duty. Said girl had been informing them of the happenings of the past three years, which the rest of team seven was keen on knowing.

“So how’s Shiranui,” asked Kakashi.

Ino smiled scathingly,” Still a womanizing leech,” she said.

Naruto and Sasuke each raised an eyebrow, Kakashi shook his head. “You went out with him didn’t you?” he asked.

Ino nodded, “Sadly,” she said.

Naruto’s expression scrunched in confusion. “Why?” he asked.

“Rebound,” said Ino.

“From who?” asked Sasuke.

“Shikamaru,” stated Ino.

Sasuke shook his head, Kakashi merely sighed.

Naruto however laughed. “That bum’s to lazy to put up with you Ino, you need someone with a lot of energy to be able to do that,” he said.

Ino scowled good naturedly. “You’re hilarious,” she said.

Sasuke then decided to cut in. “What about Lee?" he asked.

Ino smiled, “He’s ANBU now, specializing in taijutsu, and I have to say he’s quite good.”

Naruto frowned. “Please tell me he’s not still stalking Sakura chan,” he groaned.

Ino blinked, her features radiating surprise, then she laughed. “No, not anymore, it’s not like he stands a chance, and besides that, he has his own fan club now,” she added.

Ino looked towards Sasuke. “It rivals your old fan girl syndicate, Sasuke,” she said sarcastically.

Sasuke shivered in remembrance.

Naruto seemed satisfied. “What about Sakura chan?” he asked.

Ino leaned back on her chair. “Well, right now she’s on a mission, but she should finally be back early tomorrow,” said Ino with a slight smile.

Naruto nodded in understanding, “What has she been up to?” he asked.

Ino thumbed her chin. ‘Hmm, Where to begin,” she pondered.

She tilted her chair back.

“Well, when you left Naruto, she became bent on becoming stronger. I remember I once asked her why, and she told me that when her team reunites again, she didn’t want to be a burden to them any longer.

Ino sighed. “And so she trained everyday, no matter what conditions came at her, no matter how tired she was from her other training,” she said.

Sasuke looked astounded, then he smiled. “She’s quite the girl,” he said, a smirk etched firmly in place.

Kakashi looked worried. “She overdid it didn’t she,” he asked.

Ino nodded,” But don’t worry we helped her get through that, and she toned it down,” she assured.

Naruto looked puzzled. “What other training?” he asked.

Ino smiled deviously. “Why don’t I just let you figure that out yourselves,” she said, whilst quirking her blonde brow suggestively.

Naruto pouted.

Sasuke rolled his eyes. “How long has Sakura been on her mission?” he asked.

Ino thumbed her chin in contemplation. “Well, I’d have to say a year and at least three months.”

Kakashi’s visible eyebrow rose. “That’s pretty long, what did it entail?” he asked.

Again Ino regained her evil glint. “Why don’t you ask her when she comes back,” she said mischievously.

Ino then rose from her seat. Leaving behind two and a half pairs of eyes watching her every move.

She made her way to the door. “Sakura should be back by noon tomorrow,” she said.

Sasuke shook his head, whilst Kakashi nodded, then immersed himself in Icha Icha Paradise.

Blue eyes watched her as she left with a retreating wave with a slight smile.

--

"It's already half past noon, where the hell is Sakura chan."

"Dobe, shut up."

"Now it's half past noon with twenty three seconds...twenty four...twenty five...twenty six...twenty seven…twe..."

Sasuke looked up from his seat inside the Shinobi headquarters, wondering what had made the dobe shut the gigantic hole he called a mouth.

As it turned out that quite a number of people were waiting for Sakura and what he supposed was her team, to arrive, the HQ was amazingly crowded.

He was met by the sight of a confident Ino, and Naruto who was being as idiotic as usual.

Sasuke then turned his gaze back to the double doors of the HQ, after two minutes he rotated his body to look at his former sensei.

"It seems like your ability to be constantly late rubbed of on Sakura," said Sasuke.

Kakashi lowered his trademark orange book, and let out a few sarcastic chuckles.

Sasuke decided that aggravating Kakashi would keep him entertained, and just when he opened his mouth to continue, the double doors swung open.

Everyone's eyes widened. "Oh...my...god," said Naruto

"We're back," said an obnoxious voice.

"Sorry we're late, said a stoic one."

"We got lost," informed a lazy tone.

"On the road of life," finished a tired one.

"Arf, arf!"

I'm not sure what I should call this. Maybe AU, since this takes a different course of events than the actual story.

Well anyways, the story takes place a little bit before and after the war is over, but you'll see that next chapter, which I so graciously added.

Now, I'm not a fabulous writer, but this idea was stuck in my head, and I wanted to see what I could do with it on paper...or key board...computer monitor...never mind.

It might not seem like it now, but this story is NejiSaku. Which will happen next chapter...and I'll update that before midnight today!

So if any of you guys are interested so far, then please check it out!

Until then...and please give me your thoughts on this and review...just please, no flames!

ps. I don't have any rights over Naruto
