Fire and Water

"Daniel, what is it about me that irritates you so much?" Vala asked, smiling playfully as she cocked her head.

Glancing up at her, Daniel made sure his expression let her know what he thought about her none-too-subtle attempt to bait him. When she just continued staring at him, he dropped his eyes back down. "Nothing, Vala," he said absently.

"Doesn't seem like 'nothing' to me, Daniel," she persisted. "You're always saying I'm getting on your nerves. So what is it about me that annoys you?"

Sighing, Daniel pinched the bridge of his nose and said, "We're just like fire and water. Fine on their own, but put them together and the result is messy."

Vala's short laugh brought Daniel's eyes back up to her face. Smiling smugly, she arched an eyebrow. "Oh, Daniel, that isn't true. Don't you know that when you mix fire and water you get steam?"
