Welcome, all! I’ve had this plot bunny hopping around in my head for a few months now and couldn’t help but put the prologue up. It’s really short, and chapter 1 probably won’t be up for a while, as I’m aiming at the end of my Advent Children story.
Anyways, here it is.
Edited May 22, 2009: Yay!
Dead Uprising: Prologue
/A tall figure... standing over top of him. Shadowed, but he can see the crimson of the figure’s eyes. There’s something in the in the figure’s /a male/ hand. Long, pointed, poised to kill./
Link sat up, nearly hitting his head on the headboard. He’d been having that dream for a few nights now, getting clearer each time. The most recent thing he’d discovered about the dream was that the figure was male, and that he looked somewhat familiar. Moving his leg off the edge of the bed, there was a loud clunk. Link looked through the darkness at the floor. Turned out, he’d knocked the Master Sword off the end of his bed.
Yeah, he still had the thing. He still had all of his weapons and gear, including his red and blue tunics. Navi remained with him as well. Link gazed at the wall across the room.
It was finally over. The final battle with Ganon had been won, and Zelda had called him, Link, to some otherworldly place. It was as if they were standing upon a clear sheet of glass supported by nothingness. One could say they were standing in the sky, but Link knew that was not possible, magic or not. The princess had probably just placed them in some sort of dream sequence.
Zelda looked sadly at Link, though the sadness seemed directed more at herself than at the Hero of Time. Oh, how Link hated that title. Too many people treating him like royalty ever since he’d acquired it.
He listened to Zelda drone on about what he’d done, until he heard her mention going back. Back where? Why, back to his childhood, of course! Back so he wouldn’t remember anything that had happened, and since Link’s mind had a tendency to create the worst possible outcome in things first, he figured everything would just end up repeating itself over and over. He didn’t want that.
So when Zelda reached for the Ocarina, Link pulled away, saying he’d rather stay as he was. The princess sported a shocked expression, and then gave into Link’s glare. She backed up and pulled them out of the dream world. They found themselves atop the island in the center of the pristine Lake Hylia.
Zelda looked at Link in a regal way, letting her eyes show how highly she thought of herself. She told Link that, even after all he’d done for Hyrule, she no longer held any respect for him. She apologized for what she’d put him through, but said his choice against going back was not the smartest.
Link only scoffed and turned around, mentioning the fact that he didn’t think she could foresee his future, Sage or not.
Zelda frowned, saying the past events only went to prove that she could. She then disappeared to who knows where.
It was three years since that day.
Link and Epona had settled into a quiet farm life at Lon Lon Ranch. Malon and Talon had been more than grateful to have the able bodied Hero of Time working only for boarding room. Link and Malon had grown close over the short time. Too close for a relationship together. Malon even went so far as to call Link ‘brother’ on occasion.
Standing up, Link threw on his Goron tunic and his boots, and then made his way downstairs, leaving his hat abandoned in the open dresser drawer. He ran a hand through his hair, closing his eyes and taking in the sweet smells of the breakfast made by Malon’s hands.
“That man is coming again today. The one with the cloak. He sent a letter the other day, too. It said: ‘Tell Link I’m bringing someone he knew.’”
“Someone I know?” Link scoffed, sitting down at the table. “I hardly know anyone anymore.”
“You’re silly, brother,” Malon brought the food to the table. It was some kind of warm peaches and crème concoction. Knowing Malon made it, Link was sure it would be delicious. “What about that Sheik fellow you told about? You sounded rather fond of him.”
“I was once. Sheik... wasn’t who I thought he was.”
After the two ate (Talon was in Kakariko on business), they went out into the corral and began grooming the horses. Link had been in the process of brushing a young Gerudo breed when the caped man came into the ranch. He leaned against the wall of the corral and watched with mild interest. He was about Link's height, but had a more slim build.
Malon was the first to notice him. “I thought you said you were bringing someone.”
“I did.” He pulled down his hood. “I brought the truth.”
--- End Prologue ---
Well, what’d you think? It’s not very long, but it’s a start. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that in this story, Sheik is a male, and his own person. And I’m no Zelda fan, so she won’t be one of the main characters. So bah to you.
Anyways, review me and tell me what you think, as this is my first time delving into the Zelda universe. At least the writing part; I’ve read many stories.
Oh, and I’ve got to mention again that you shouldn’t expect an update too soon, as I’ve got my Advent Children story to work with. If you’ve seen it, you should read my story. Oh, and Deathbyhugs’ story, too. It’s WAY better than mine.
ANYWAYS, I’ll shut up now and let you get to reviewing.
