Author's Notes: I'm a latecomer to Lost and after watching "Abandoned" I was surprised to find a lack of fiction of this type in response. Although all the Sayid-introspective-angst was delicious, I decided to put something a little bit different out there. It's my first Lost fic so PLEASE REVIEW!

Contains spoilers & some dialogue for "Abandoned." Also, for the purposes of this fic, Sawyer was never shot just for simplification. The lyrics are from Trespassers William's "Lie in the Sound."

“Why don't you believe me? I need you to believe in me.” Shannon’s eyes pleaded with Sayid’s, begging him to take away a lifetime of hurt and doubt.

”I do believe in you.”

”You don't!” She cried. “No one does. They think that I'm some kind of joke. They think I'm worthless”
”Shannon, you are not worthless.”

”You say that now, but you don't…you're just going to leave me. I know as soon as we get out of here you're just going to leave me.” Tears spilled down her face, mixing with the rain that was pouring down around them, soaking through their clothes. Sayid’s large hand came up to cup her face, forcing her to look into his soulful brown eyes.

”I will never leave you. I love you. I'll never leave you.”

”You do?” Her lower lip trembled as she asked for affirmation.

”I do.” He pulled her to him, burying his face against her graceful neck, pressing a soft kiss there as she clung to him.

But then the whispers started.

They slowly pulled apart and looked around the jungle fearfully. Shannon saw Sayid’s eyes widened and spun around to find Walt standing there.

“Do you see him?” He nodded yes in shock. Shannon pulled away, running after the boy despite Sayid’s protests and he tried to follow only to slip in the mud. Getting up, he screamed her name. When his call was answered by a gunshot, his heart froze but then his soldier’s instincts kicked in, causing him to run towards the sound.

“Shannon! Shannon!” He broke through the bushes to find her stumbling back towards him. His eyes widened in panic when he saw the blood stain growing on her stomach and she collapsed into his arms. He looked into her eyes, clouded with pain, only for a second before they closed and her body went limp in his arms. “No!” he cried, clutching her to him. He looked up briefly to see a woman lowering a gun, but gave her only enough attention to determine she was no longer a threat. Then, gathering Shannon in his arms, he sprinted towards the hatch.

I am falling
Say my name
And i'll lie in the sound
What is love
But whatever
My heart needs around

And it needs you
Too much
Now.
