Follow The Sequel Snake
Prologue:
Horacia was not fooled. She knew what was at risk, and what she was attempting. She knew that many of her Children would die, but she knew that there was nothing more important than this.
A fight that none of us have fought in a thousand years, it's what we've been preparing ourselves for.
She rolled her fatty body along the sewage pipes, well aware that her offspring were nearby, behind and beside her in other pipes. They moved like leeches through the tight cement tubes and slowed her down, but her sightless eyes could not find the way around without them.
Horacia was the Queen of this Basilisk colony, and the only female Basilisk. There had been one juvenile queen, almost half her size, but she had consumed the young female in order to strengthen herself before setting out.
Could not chance that my young sons would rally around her...
What most wizards already knew was that Basilisks were all mindless, following the orders of their Master without complaint. But what many wizards did not know was that every Basilisk colony had a Queen, a Queen with human intelligence. That Queen was bonded to her human parsletongue counterpart for life, and only he could ever give her any command. But when the human died, the Queen herself alone was permitted to consume his body. And if the Queen died, only one of her own juvenile daughters could take her place at her human's side. But before any of this could take place, only one thing could be done. Only one thought rolled through Horacia's brain as she scrolled through the dark sewers, nose picking out the smells and tastes of the human hoard above her.
Revenge.
Whatever revenge that could be had against those who had felled her Master; the Qitiqua elders, the human, and the Child. With all this in mind she slithered fiercely forward, inching along with her dread hoard through the murky darkness.
