It was a chilly Saturday afternoon in the small town. The normally blue sky was covered by a thick blanket of dark clouds, and the pouring rain that had started up in the early hours of the morning still hadn’t let up.

A black haired youth sat on the windowsill of his dark bedroom. In his lap lay a picture he had spent the last five hours drawing of two teenagers in a park; a girl sat upon a swing, being pushed gently by a smiling boy behind her. His blue-violet eyes turned upwards to the ceiling as the image of a mid-length, black haired girl’s smile danced across his mind. “Kagome….” He whispered.

The picture had been drawn specifically for her, the object of his adoration. In his eyes, everything about her was beautiful. What made him love her so much, he wasn’t sure. He just knew how he felt. And seeing the picture in his lap made him all the more anxious to give it to her.

‘Wait a minute… I know where she lives!’ He realized.

His mother Izayoi, unfortunately, was sick and told him not to go out in the rain. But so blinded by his love at the moment, he completely forgot her warning and ran out the front door of his small house and into the pouring rain with the picture tucked somewhere dry.

Yes, he knew exactly where he was going. Even if Kagome’s house was halfway across town, he wouldn’t stop until he got there. He just had to wonder what her reaction would be to a soaked Inuyasha standing on her doorstep….

But fate was against him today. One stone was all it took to send him crashing to the ground, and, as if in slow motion, the picture fluttered out of its safe place and landed in a nearby puddle.

The rain continued to fall on his world, and soon his tears joined the droplets. ‘What a stupid thing to do….’ He thought to himself, his mind’s image of Kagome fading into the darkness. ‘I love her….’

It seemed like hours, but was only a few minutes before he heard the sound of a car pulling up. Izayoi, red-nosed and wrapped in a light blanket, stepped out of it with an umbrella already open. She walked over to her son and helped him to his feet. Then they were in the car, driving back to the small house. “You’re a real idiot, you know that?” She scolded gently to the silent teenager. “But I think it’s real cute that you tried.”

Upon entering the house, Inuyasha grabbed some dry clothes, took a warm shower, then settled into his dark room and fell asleep. When he awoke, the memory of the picture and the rainy day had disappeared.

Sometimes love makes you do the craziest things….

PK: I know it was short, but I hoped you guys liked it anyway. This fic is based on a true story. See, my boyfriend told me all of this last night and about how he’d completely forgotten about it… and something about this story struck me so hard that I had to write it down.
