NEON: A KADAJ AND SELPHIE FANFICTION.
Twirling her umbrella around like a pinwheel, Selphie spun around, her laughter leading throughout every corner of the street. On her feet were a pair of really, really bright orange rain boots (which she adored) and she was protected from the falling rain with her yellow raincoat. She was a giant mass of neon, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she blinded someone.
“Train, train,” She sang, “take us away, take us away, far away,” she hopped on one foot still singing, “Into the future we will go, where we’ll go, we don’t know!”
Her dancing and singing was cut short when her emerald eyes stopped and landed on a man wearing black leather. His hair was silver and went to about his shoulders. Selphie thought he was the most attractive guy she ever met, so she excitedly ran over to him, umbrella in hand, flipped and wavy hair bouncing with every movement.
Selphie gawked and happily clasped her hands together, running over there without hesitation. She didn’t need a reason— she was Selphie!
Kadaj spotted her almost immediately, wishing he hadn’t. Just one glance at her outfit and he felt his teal eyes sting, wanting to fall out of his sockets.
“Hey, hey!” She cried happily, rushing across the street, blissfully unaware of the danger of crossing through traffic.
Kadaj turned his back and hoped to god she wasn’t running towards him. Please, don’t let it be him for once, please . . .
Too bad.
She ran up to him, a huge grin appearing on her face. Kadaj felt his eyes slightly burn a little, so he tried to advert her gaze for safety. Losing eyes isn’t fun and games.
He hated everyday but he hated this day so much more.
“Hey,” Selphie rested her hands on her knees, taking a few deep breaths before continuing, “I saw your outfit from REALLY far away, actually only from over there!” She pointed across the street. Kadaj groaned, “Yeah, and I saw your outfit from REALLY far away too. Maybe even miles.”
Selphie smiled, wavy hair flipping out of her neon hood,” Oh, you noticed my outfit!”
Kadaj groaned again, “Who didn’t? Anyways, do I even know you?”
“Nope! But it’s REALLY GREAT TO MEET YOU!” Selphie grinned and held out her hand for a handshake. “I’m Selphie Tilmitt!”
Kadaj sent her a glare and tried walking past the gravity-defying haired girl. Hoping to god she wouldn’t follow him, he walked to the edge of the sidewalk.
Oh, too late.
“Hey, where are you going?” Selphie asked, popping up in front of him. “Huh?” Selphie pouted with her hands at her chest, “You going somewhere?”
“Away…”
“Oh? Where’s that?” Selphie span around, handing Kadaj her umbrella, so she could maintain her balance and move more easily, “Here, you’re getting all wet. What’s your name anyway?”
No reply.
…..
…..
“Did’ja hear me? WHAT-IS-YOUR-NAME?”
“…”
…..
…..
…..
“You’re not going to tell me? Oh, I bet I have to guess!” Selphie brought her hand to her chin in a thinking pose. She let out a small grin, summoning all her brain power, “Hm, you kinda look like a—“
“It’s Kadaj. Can I go now?” Kadaj tried walking by her, only for her to jump in front of him again. He growled, trying to maneuver his way around her, but she kept following his movements and somehow making her way in front of him.
“Where are you going anyway? You never told me!”
…..
“You must be bi-polar, right?”
“Bi-polar?” Kadaj thought about it for a second, “BI-POLAR? HOW THE HELL AM I BI-POLAR?”
“Hehe, so you ARE bi-polar! I thought so!” She hopped emphasizing her happiness, randomly adding, “I REALLY like leather,”
“…..”
“You’re rather silent, aren’t you? You should meet my friend—“
“No,” Kadaj walked around the brightly dressed girl, handing her back her umbrella, “How about no.”
“Oh? But you two would be BESTEST friends!” Selphie followed closely behind him, muttering a few words to him, “I swear, you two could be twins or something!”
“I already have enough siblings.”
“Oh? Brothers or sisters? I can imagine you as the older brother definitely.”
The rain fell harder now and Kadaj rejoiced as the girl following him seemed to have fallen behind. Turning around he was joined with her presence again. He bit his lower lip, wanting out of here now.
Then he remembered he was Kadaj — he never got what he wanted.
“So, Kadaj... Where ‘you headed? You can tell me! I promise not to tell anyone. Really.”
God, what the hell was this girl? She wasn’t take his hints to leave and she kept smiling, talking and just being annoying!
“KADAJJJ,” Selphie pouted, “TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE GOING.”
“…..”
“HEY, KADAJ! Want to hear my song?”
“… No.”
“Oh, why not?”
“…No.”
“That’s not an answer!”
“…..”
“Train, train, take us away—“
“Shut up.”
“But—“
“Shut up!”
“…..”
“…..”
“…..”
“Whyyy…?” Selphie asked, “I really want you to hear my song!”
“I don’t want to.”
“Train, train—“
“Just die.”
“That’s not very nice!”
“Just go away.”
“That’s what my friend says all the time—“
“Cloud, just kill me now.”
“YEAH, Cloud! He’s my friend.”
Kadaj stopped abruptly, causing the hyper teen to slam into his back, making her fall back to the ground.
“Hey—“
“…..”
“…..”
“…..”
“I don’t like this game. It isn’t very fun,”
“I don’t like you.”
“Well, I REALLY like you!” Selphie exclaimed with a great big smile, lifting herself up, “And I was wondering if—“
“No.”
“But I didn’t get to what I was going to ask—“
“No…”
“But—“
“NO.”
“…..”
“Huh?”
“….”
“…..”
“Hehe! I started the game this time!”
“Just… kill me.”
“But then we couldn’t talk anymore!”
“God, that excites me.”
“Really? Well, I’m glad I’m exciting you!”
“No, it’s the exact opposite.”
“…..”
“Watch where you’re going!” He took a hold of her yellow jacket, pulling her back with some force. She was just about to make her way across the street during a red light and he just … saved her?
“I could’ve died!”
“...”
“You DO care,” Selphie smiled, “Let’s be friends, okay?”
“…Just no.”
“I’ll take that as a ‘HELL yes’,”
“’HELL no’”
Selphie handed over her umbrella to him again. “Keep it as thanks for saving my life.”
“…..”
“…..”
“No.”
“Hehe, I won that time! You talked first!”
Kadaj rubbed his forehead with frustration and let out an angry growl. God, he wished he could just die right there and then.
“Hey, you okay?” Selphie flashed her hand in front of his face, “You just sorta died there!”
“I’m far from it.”
“Oh, why?”
“…..”
“…..”
“Kill me.”
“Jeez, stop being such a bi-polar face! You gotta learn how to enjoy life… like me!”
“Kill,” He emphasized, “me.”
“KADAJ!”
—and poor Kadaj lost it.
“…..”
He ran off screaming from his aggravation, dropping the umbrella in front of the once cheery, upbeat teenaged girl. His aggravated groans could be heard throughout the area, causing people all over to stare at the girl and the man in black leather who had ran away from her just now.
She squatted down, picking up her umbrella. Her face hid underneath her bangs and was covered by her raincoat so you weren’t able to see her expression. She bit her lower lip, standing back up with her umbrella in hand.
And people walked by without question.
He met her around the corner. He made sure never to walk there again.
