Author’s Note: This is a series of ficlets based off my fanvid series titled “Confession.” (Available for viewing at youtube-dot-com under the username Nashidesei.) The premise is an alternate universe version of Avatar, branching off at The Waterbending Scroll and going from there. I’ll be posting them in two-part increments once a week until it’s complete.
Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender, so please don’t kill me for dabbling with its characters and tilting the perspective of its universe just a bit. I’m not making anything off it anyway, except for those wonderful things called Reviews that make me bounce up and down in my seat but do nothing to ease my financial situation.

1: Expectations
She had thought she knew how things would turn out. This had not been in her plan. She had expected him to grab her, certainly, but not like this.
She had expected him to hold her by the wrists or shoulders, roughly, and growl a thinly-veiled threat at her face.
She had not expected him slip a hand gently around her waist and whisper in her ear.
“I’ll save you from the pirates.”

2: Contact
“I have something of yours,” he breathed, leaning close. She shied away, not wanting to feel his breath on her skin or see that terrible scar, the one that reminded her of dragons, up close.
She felt his hand pass around the back of her neck and was certain that now was when those pale hands—so different from the men of her tribe, slim and strange—would wrap around her neck and kill her. It took a moment before she realized that he was holding something.
She looked down, trying hard not to lean back against his outstretched arm but unable to avoid the slight contact between her braid and his tunic, and couldn’t keep back the gasp that escaped her lips.
“My mother’s necklace!”
