Somewhere, in the cold darkness of space, she remained. Waiting….

Evangelion: Resurrection.
A post Third Impact Evangelion fanfiction.

One year and six days after the event known as Third Impact, Commander Ikari sat behind the spartan desk of his office empty, save for one newly added framed picture. Some would say it’s emptiness reflected the character of the man, the man known to many within NERV as ‘The Bastard King’, who held a red telephone to his ear.

“Yes, it is being recovered from deep space.”

There was a pause while the voice on the other end of the line spoke.

“Both of them.”

The voice asked a question.

“They have returned. Their threat can no longer be taken as lightly as it once was.”

The voice added something in agreement before asking another question.

“We have begun reconstruction and recovery of the existing units, with delivery of the remaining series is expected soon.”

There was another question.

“They will be reactivated.”

And another answer.

“Of course…Chairman.”

Ikari returned the red phone to it’s place within the drawer of his desk. If the reports he had read were true, and they had indeed returned then NERV would be needed once more.

He pushed a small button on the intercom fitted to his desk.

“Lieutenant, Send in the Third Child.”

The doors at the far end of his office swung open. The boy known as Shinji Ikari, former Pilot of Evangelion Unit 01 slowly crossed the floor, before coming to a halt some distance from the desk.

“Father.” he said quietly.

There was silence as the elder Ikari studied his son.

“Why have you called me here?” he asked, his voice uncharacteristically cold, like his fathers.

“You know why.” His father answered.

“I told you I would never Pilot again.” Shinji tried to stare down his father.

It had little effect, but Gendo had to admit to himself he was a little impressed. They boy was standing up to him.

“She has been recovered.” Commander Ikari said.

Shinji remained silent, not sure what to say. He had said goodbye. He’d thought she was gone forever and the man sitting in front of him was responsible for her loss. But now…

“She will be returning soon.” Gendo added. “And you are the only one she trusts.”

“So you only want to use me and her again, that’s it isn’t it.” Shinji spat, his voice raised by a sudden surge of anger. “After all you’ve cost me you still think I will allow you to use me. Selfish bastard, No wonder she rejected you!”

There was silence again for a moment. Commander Ikari apparently remained unmoved by his sons outburst.

“Your opinion of me is of little consequence.” he eventually spoke. It was, in some ways, a lie. “Under special directive A-457, all retired NERV personnel have been compulsorily reactivated. Failure to comply will lead to punishment.”

Ice began to form on his desk.

Shinji clenched and released his fist, an old habit that he’d thought he’d lost. A sudden twinge of pain in the palm of his hand told him just how hard he had squeezed. A small drop of blood splashed on the floor.

He only nodded a response.

“Very well.” Gendo said. “Report to Dr. Akagi tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. Dismissed.”

As his son left, Gendo picked up the picture and looked at it. It was the reason he had used his son, and the reason he was sitting behind his desk, instead of floating in a paradise state of no-mind. She had asked him to return.

“I will earn the right.” he said.

This is my first attempt at a non-S.I. fic. I know it’s very short and I know Post Third Impact fics have been done to death and beyond, and that some have been done very well, but I thought I’d try and see if I could do it a little different. Of course, this is only a prologue, since I haven’t even got much of an idea for a plot yet. It was just an idea that demanded to be written.

Please tell me if I should continue with this, or if I should concentrate on other projects.

I don’t own Evangelion someone else does.
A lot of stuff might be mentioned that’s copyrighted.
I don’t own it either.
Its only for fun anyway.
