Hey all! This is my first GG fanfic! The song is from the Disney Channel Original Movie "High School Musical". I do not own that or Gilmore Girls. This takes place the day after "I get A Sidekick Out of You".

When There Was Me and You

Lorelai was sitting on her couch thinking about her and Luke. Their relationship was officially on the rocks. All because of a mistake.

Why did I let myself believe
Miracles could happen
Cause now I have to pretend
That I don't really care

"Why didn't Rory tell me she met April?" She thought sadly. "Why doesn't Luke just let me meet her? Doesn't he trust me? Is he embarrassed?"

I thought you were my fairytale
A dream when I'm not sleeping
A wish upon a star
That's coming true

"I really thought he was the one. I guess I just fantasize too much." Lorelai sighed. "I'm gonna have to tell him how I feel."

But everybody else could tell
That I confused my feelings with the truth
When there was me and you

Lorelai walked slowly to Lukes'. Everyone turned to glance at her. She was expecting this after her little outburst at Lanes' reception.

I swore I knew the melody
That I heard you singing
And when you smiled
You made me feel
Like I could sing along

Lorelai tried thinking of happier times with Luke, but that made her feel even worse. "Be strong, Sandy." She thought thinking of a Grease character in the same situation herself was in.

But then you went and changed the words
Now my heart is empty
I'm only left with used-to-be's
Once upon a song

Lukes' was empty by the time Lorelai got there. She walked over to Luke who looked up and smiled.

"Hey, Lorelai!" He exclaimed happily. Then he noticed her expression. "What's wrong?"

Lorelai sighed. "Luke, we need to talk."

Now I know you're not a fairytale
And dreams are meant for sleeping
And wishes on a star
Just don't come true

Luke looked down. "Kirk told me what happened at the reception."

Lorelai looked away.

"Why?" He asked.

Cause now even I can tell that I confused my feelings with the truth
Cause I liked the view
When there was me and you

"You lied to me. For two months you kept April a secret from me after giving me a hypocritical lesson on honesty." She was stating to get choked up. "And even though I am willing to get to know April…you pushed me away."

Luke sighed sadly. "I am so sorry."

I can't believe that
I could be so blind
It's like you were floating
While I was falling
And I didn't mind

"I really wish that was enough, Luke." Lorelai said sadly. "But…I can't…we can't do this anymore. April, you, Rory, and I don't deserve this. I'm sorry. But, we're done." She slowly turned and walked out. Luke sighed and watched her go sadly.

I guess it just wasn't meant to be. They both thought.
