About a very minor character, who happens to be my favourite.

Another Dickensian Sonnet

Hahah, I'm not drunk, I'm just Charley Bates.
And we live with Fagin, me and me mates.
Sure we do steal, but we do have to eat.
If we don't take 'em, no bread and no meat,
And no gin and water, first above all.
It's a good life, it is, if you're not tall.
Tall folk do other things, like laying bricks.
As for me, Charley, I'll stick to me tricks.
If one day comes when I find myself old,
Too tall for pockets, too tall to be bold,
Why, I'll go out from London, hail me
A cab. I'll rob the rich travelers free.
Won't I be famous? Won't I be fine?
Won't the Dodger be jealous of me and of mine?
