Chapter 3- Out of My Mind

Heart racing, Greg hurried to the check-in desk.

"Can I please have the room number for Nick Stokes?" he panted.

"Hold on one second please," the desk clerk said with a grin.

"Thanks."

She padded her fingertips against the keyboard.

"That would be room 418."

Greg rushed into the elevator and pressed the lit up key that read "4".

Up he went until the metal doors opened. Greg scurried to Nick's door and out walked Sara.

She seemed confused and blinked her a eyes a few times. After a minute or so, she wrapped her arms around him and placed her head snug on his shoulder. Then with a sudden jerk back, she spoke.

"Where were you? What happened?"

"I had to leave, Sar. I just...had to."

"Did it have to do with us? You know, the team?"

"You guys fit in there somewhere, but not in a bad way of course. It was out of protection."

"Alex!" yelled Chelsey as she stormed up to him. "Who the hell is she? Where the hell have you been? What the hell are you doing?"

Sara shook her head to herself.

"Alex? Who are you now?" asked Sara, disappointed.

"Okay guys-ladies. Chill. I'll explain-"

"Daddy!" screamed Jake as he once again wrapped his arms around his father.

"You have-a kid? And she's-your wife? I'm so out of here."

Sara started back into the room.

"Sara, wait!"

She slammed the door in his face.

"Oh, so she's Sara," Chelsey muttered.

"How do you know about-"

"That's funny. You say her name in your sleep. You've even called me 'Sara' a few times. Who are you kidding? No wonder we came here!"

"Oh? Who am I kidding? Who are you kidding! David...don't act like it's not true. I've seen you two! I kept quiet forthe kids' sake. I know the truth. Our relationship is built on lies! You want some truth? My name? Greg Sanders. My true love and obsession? Sara Sidle. The reason I lied to everyone? I wanted to protect my friends and family. Why I don't care anymore? It's not worth it! I bet I can guess Karissa's not mine, too. All I'm sure about is Jake. For the record, I haven't even seen Sara for five years, so no, I did not know she would be here. Thank god she was or else I'd be spending the rest of my miserable years with you. Which brings me to my next subject. What am I going to do now? Leave."

"Al-Gr-whatever! You can't go! The kids! The-the...!"

"I don't know what I'd rather have...my life, or my kid..."

"You know what you stupid son of a bitch? You can have Jake! He disrespects me! He loves you! I don't even care! He's got your poisoness blood in him!"

Right before she stormed off, she slapped Greg firmly on the side of the face. Then she grabbed her daughter's hand and left.

Now it was just Greg and Jake in the middle of the hallway. With a sad moan, Greg slid down the wall and hit the floor.

"Daddy, what's wrong? Where's Mommy going?"

"She's gone, Jay. Gone."

"Gone? Gone where?"

"Who knows? Away, for good."

"We're never gonna see her again?"

"I won't...you might."

"Oh...darn...she makes me mad! I don't wanna see her again!"

"Same here."

Greg looked up as the door infront of him opened.

"Hey," Sara said softly. "I couldn't help but listen in...and it wasn't too hard. Well, me and Nick-we heard everything. Would you care to come in?"

"Sure..."

Greg got up and held his hand out for Jake. "Come on, buddy, this is my friend, Sara."

"Hewwoooooo," Jake laughed.

A/N: It may not be the longest chapter ever, but it'll do. I think there's spelling errors, but once again, my spellcheck doesn't work. Well, please review!!
