The Hacker and the Dragonis Crystal

Important Note: This fic takes place during the game, so there WILL be spoilers. If you have not played the game all the way through, I highly suggest you do so before reading. You have been forewarned….

Full Summary:

Game and computer hacker, Kris Jenson, decided one day to hack into the program code of her game, Tales of Symphonia. She created her avatar, Raven Silva, and was just about to program her quest in the game, when something went horribly wrong. Now Kris is stuck in her game, and what’s worse, she’s become her character! Can Kris make it back to the real world? Or will she be stuck in the game forever? Pairings: KratosOC, YuanOC, and ZelosOC (One-sided).

Hello, all! This would be my second fanfic, (that’s alive, that is—I’ve had many fics die on me, lol), but my first one for TOS! Yayness!

Ahem, anyway, some stuff about this fic:

1. I honestly have no idea who Kris/Raven should be paired up with. (NOT Zelos—it’s one-sided for a reason, peoples!) I’d ask ya’ll who you guys think she should be paired with, but you don’t know anything about her yet as this fic has only just begun, lol. XP So, if I can’t decide as this fic goes on, I’ll ask later, okay? All I know is she’ll be smitten with both Kratos and Yuan, but not Zelos….

2. This is not a self-insertion fic. I am not a hacker, and I’m not in high school anymore. (Already graduated, yay!) So please, please don’t say this is self-insertion, because it isn’t—Kris and I have little in common! She’s just a plain-old OC, okay? Get it? Got it? Good….

3. This fic takes place during the course of the game. Because of the interference of my OC, some events may or may not take place, as well as various new events. Hmmm…. Think of this fic as being an “alternate” TOS—like a “what would happen if…” kind of fic…. One example would be the Animorphs books called Alternamorphs—kinda like that if any of you have read those back in the day, lol…. XD

Also, one thing I would like you all to know: please tell me if you spot any grammar or spelling mistakes! I won’t get mad if you tell me! It helps me as a writer if I can find and correct my mistakes, okay? Plus, it shows you guys have an interest in my fic. 3

One more thing: please leave reviews! I totally appreciate them! No flames, though. Constructive criticism is okay as long as it isn’t super negative.

Well, enough of my ramblings, and on with the fic! X3

Disclaimer: I own Kris/Raven, her totally kick-butt weapon, the Combispear, (I know it’s somewhat a knock-off the Combistick in Predator: Concrete Jungle, but mine’s cooler, so leave me alone…. XP), and her Dragonis Crystal. Sadly, I own nothing else…. ;3;

Prologue – Soda and Electronics Don’t Mix

Kris Jenson sat in front of her computer, completely fixated on the lines of code scrawled across the screen. Various wires hung out of her computer tower and were connected to her Nintendo Gamecube, the light glowing softly in the dim room revealing that it was on and was currently reading a disc.

“Okay…” Kris mumbled to herself, brushing strands of black hair out of her face. “Just need to end the tag and… there! Character creation complete!”

Kris smiled to herself, please with her work. It had taken the 18-year-old high school senior several weeks to successfully hack into the program code of her game, Tales of Symphonia, and create a completely new character for the game. It wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be—creating the 3D models, setting up parameters, and even creating a new kind of weapon—what a headache! And yet, the hard part was now over. All that was left was to test out her character, and then, when completely satisfied, create her own little quest.

Kris looked over the information of her avatar once more, making sure all was correct. The information she had was as follows:

Name: Raven Silva

Age: 20

Race: Human

Place of Origin: Asgard

Height: 5 feet, 6 inches

Weight: 140 pounds

Weapon of Choice: Combispear

Elemental Magic of Choice: Wind

Type of Exsphere Equipped: Dragonis Crystal

Occupation: Bounty Hunter

Kris read over the information several times before nodding to herself. She then brought up the 3D model creation program and looked over Raven’s design.

Raven had long black hair that reached down to the end of her shoulder blades and bangs that were parted in the middle framed her face. About halfway down her bangs and hair, the color gradually changed from black to purple. Across her forehead and tied around to the back of her head was a blue bandanna—under that bandanna was a special kind of Exsphere that Kris had created for Raven called a Dragonis Crystal; it was black as if it was filled with ink, and was set with a green dragon scale Key Crest. Raven’s eyes were emerald in color and her skin was lightly tanned to show that she had been out in the sun quite often. Her attire was fairly simple—a black, sleeve-less shirt with black pants, (complete with a regular brown belt), fingerless black gloves, and regular brown traveling boots that came half-way up her shins. Draped over her shirt was a dark green poncho with dark blue trim.

Connected to Raven’s belt was what appeared to be at first glance an emerald green metal rod about 2 feet long; it hung at her side much like that of a sword. However, this weapon was Raven’s Combispear. When drawn in battle, the wielder can control the rod with his or her mana. When used, the rod can double its length by shooting out extensions from either end, complete with six-inch blades. Fully extended, Raven’s Combispear could reach up to five feet in length, and with her mastery over it, she could have one, both, or neither blades out, depending on the situation.

Simple, yet a design to be proud of.

Kris smiled to herself, but that smiled faltered when a flash of light followed by a loud rumbling sound came from outside. The steady drumming of rain on the roof increased in magnitude as the seconds ticked by.

Kris hated thunderstorms.

Trying her best to ignore the raging storm outside, Kris clicked her mouse a few times, setting things up.

“Okay, let’s see how well you work in the program now,” she mumbled to herself.

She clicked a few more times and then the familiar black loading screen greeted Kris’ blue eyes. She skipped the game’s intro and when the menu came up, a new option flashed blue and white. Kris scrolled down and clicked on “Raven’s Quest.”

BOOM! Rumble, rumble, rumble….

The sudden sound of the thunder made Kris yelp in surprise, and in her fear, she knocked her can of soda over onto her Gamecube. There was the horrible sound of fizzing and popping noises, sparks flew out of the sides of the console, and a repulsive smell of burning plastic wafted towards Kris’ nostrils.

“Ah, shit!” she cried, trying her best to turn the console off without being electrocuted. Her computer screen jerked and then turned black with large, white letters reading “Error” flashing every second.

Trying desperately to save her precious gaming console, Kris tried to open the lid, but the sparks that flew out of the spazzing machine made it almost impossible to get near. Finally, Kris just lunged at the machine and grabbed just as a blinding flash illuminated the outside of her house. Suddenly, searing hot pain flooded her system and Kris felt as if every nerve in her body was on fire. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. The words “Program Transfer” appeared on the computer screen, but Kris was in too much pain to notice. Tears welled up in her eyes as the electricity coursed through her body, and it almost appeared as if her surroundings were melting into darkness.

Finally, the surge of electrical current ceased, and Kris fell unconscious into the shadows.

Yeah, I know, it’s short. I usually start out with short chapters anyway before I get into the long-winded stuff. Anyway, hope it has some of you hooked and ready for the next chapter. 3

Oh, and no, I’ve never spilled soda on my Gamecube, so I have no idea if that kind of stuff would really happen to it…. XP Personally, I don’t wanna find out, either….
