Music of the Heart
She sits. Her dark violet hair glistening in the dim light of the gray sky. The rain splattering the windows. Thunder crackling, followed by thrums of thunder.
She breathes. Her black leotard tight against her body, comfortable. The scent of paper. Wood. Calling out to her. Foot jiggles restlessly. Testing the pedal.
She closes her eyes. Her cloak draped over her figure. Obscuring her slim shape. Her fingers stretch. Cold, cool surface. Smooth.
She presses the first key. It's note rang out and held. She let it go.
She inhaled deeply and started to play.
The music flowed out of her mind, her soul and body. The notes on the page, once black, silent and unmoving, came alive. Her fingers skipping over the keys, dancing quickly, deftly.
All throughout the silent and dark tower the repeating melody, the intertwining notes and chords, the haunting sound of the mournful song echoed, creeping through every crack and crevice in the remote T shaped tower like some kind of infectious deadly disease.
When she played, she felt as if all her worries were sucked away from her.
She loved this song. She played it from her heart and when she played, it was the perfect portrayal of her own life. Seclusion, darkness, loss, hate, struggle. Sorrow.
" Sweet Raven, you aren't going to cry now are you?"
" You live only because I allow it."
" The gem was born of evil's fire..."
" It's always the quiet ones isn't it?
" I didn't bring them into this."
" The gem shall be his portal."
" You may not be afraid of me, but look who's afraid of you."
" Tell me, what stings the most, Raven? That all your friends liked me better than you? Or is it that deep down inside, you really thought I was your friend?"
" He comes to claim,"
" You're always in you dark room reading you're creepy books! Why can't you have fun like normal people?"
" You forever had the love of your people, even knowing what you would become."
" He comes to sire."
" It is too late for Earth. Just as is was too late for Azarath."
" The end of all things mortal."
The last note dies away. Fades into...
Silence.
