Another Mistake
AN: Darn it, I don't have a decent title. Anyways, this is my first FMA fic, so bear with me. As usual, flames are accepted, death threats, or any other kinds of threats, are not. This is an EdxWinry fic. If you don't like it, then don't read it. It's as simple as that.
AN2: I know how the series and movie ended, but let's just put it this way; Ed didn't get transported to 'our world' and is happily living with Al and Winry at Central City. Here, Roy Mustang is the new Military President, and Ed asked him for some fundings to build an Alchemy Academy for children so that they don't make the same mistake as Al and him did in the past. Al's a State Alchemist here too. Do you guys get it?
AN3: To my readers of my SK fics, I have the updates ready on my notebook, but the sad part is, I'm a really slow typer, so that lessens my update percent by about 30. Also, I don't have my own computer, so I rent them, but I usually don't have money, so that lessens it by 15. Lastly, I need to take care of my brother, who's constantly making me lose myself, so that lessens it to about 20. That's why I'm so slow at things. Sorry, guys. But when it's back to school (Mid June), I'll be able to update at least once a week. Thanks.
Disclaimer: I do not own FMA or its totally awesome characters. I don't even own the computer where I typed this fic on . But I do own the fan fic, so there.
"For crying out loud, Winry! Would you give it a rest already?"
"No! I am not stepping out of this room until you let me do it!"
"Would you both please quiet down?" Alphonse Elric asked in desperation at his older brother and his childhood friend, yet his pleas remained ignored. With a long sigh, he unwillingly picked up his alchemy books and left the room to search for a quieter place in the building where he could continue his research.
"Oh, great!" Edward Elric, as short as ever, yelled accusingly. "Al left the room because you were too noisy!"
"Excuse me!" Winry Rockbell retorted angrily, flailing her wrench at the alchemist. "He left the room because of your big mouth!"
"Putting that aside," Ed said, his arms folded in front of him. "I'm still not letting you do it."
"C'mon, Ed!" Winry sighed in a fatigued voice. They have been yelling at each other like this for the past half hour and she's starting to lose her fighting spirit. "Considering what I've done for you in the past, this is but a teensy favor!"
"Look," Ed sighed, pointing a finger at her. "I paid for every single Automail repair you've done on my limbs in the past. And besides, I was the one who paid for the construction of the academy, so when I say 'no', I mean 'no'!"
"The nerve!" Winry exclaimed with a tone of disbelief as well as a tinge of disgust. "You got your money from the military! And another thing, it was Roy Mustang who gave you the money to have the Elric's Young Alchemists' Academy built!"
"It was still my money," Ed retorted with a pout. "I'm a State Alchemist after all."
"But-"
"You two still aren't finished?"
The two stopped and turned to look, and saw Alphonse standing by the doorway with his alchemy books, followed by two seemingly hyperactive little boys.
"Professor Alphonse," one of them said while impatiently tugging Al's clothes. "Wasn't our class with Professor Edward supposed to start about to hours ago?"
"My apologies, you two," Al sighed, at the same time glancing at his older brother with the expression, "This is your fault!"
He immediately turned back to the boys and said, "Professor Ed will be attend to you guys right away. Now, go back to the classroom."
"That's right," said the other boy. "Professor Edward is still having a quarrel with his girlfriend."
"I'm not his girlfriend!"
"I'm glad you're aware!"
"Oh would you two just shut up!" Al sighed angrily as he ushered the children out of the room and closed the door behind him. He heaved another sigh, his hand on his forehead and turned to his brother.
"Why don't you just agree to what Winry's asking for?" he proposed, trying to end the two's little debate once and for all. He needed a silent place where he could study, and the only way that he could have that was to get both Ed and Winry out of his hair, since the children would just pester him if he studied somewhere else besides his room. Wait a second, why were they quarelling in HIS room, anyway?
"Hell no!" was Edward's immediate reply at his younger brother. "And why are you on her side anyway? We're an Alchemy school, Al! We can't just put up a subject for Automail Mechanic wannabes!"
"There's nothing wrong with that! There are some children here who want to become Automail Mechanics because they can't use alchemy!" Winry pointed out.
"Yeah," Al agreed. "We've been taking in so many abandoned children, we haven't considered the fact that a handful of them don't have tha knack for alchemy."
"Al's right," Winry snapped at once. "Instead of letting those kids laze around and do nothing, why not teach them something worth their while, like Automail for instance?"
"That'd be a good thing too, since there are some children here who had some of their limbs amputated because of the past crossfire." With a smile, Al added, "Then those kids could team up with our students and become a team, just like Winry and you!"
Ed couldn't believe it; His own brother was teaming up with Winry against him.
With a sigh, he slowly made his way towards the door, but stopped when Winry called out to him.
"Well?" she asked.
"It's two against one," Ed replied in a sad tone. He turned to face Winry with a somewhat forced smile and added, "But hey! What've I got to lose?"
"Oh, Ed!"
"Woah! Hold it!"
It was a bit too late, for Winry had just run up to him and locked her arms around his neck in a tight embrace. It was probrably the strong enthusiasm Winry had used when she lunged forward, or maybe it was his own shock because Winry just embraced him; Ed didn't know, but it surely made him fall flat on the floor together with her.
"Darn it, Winry!" he yelled, gasping for air. "You're... heavy!"
"Hey!" Winry snapped. "I'm a whole lot lighter than you are! Besided, you're a boy. You should be able to take a lady's weight!"
"That's not an excuse!"
"Ahem."
The two looked up at Al.
"What?" the two asked in unison.
"Could you two leave now? I still have to do some research for tomorrow's site," Al asked. "And if you two are going to do that, please, not in here."
"Do what?" Winry asked innocently.
"Winry," Ed sighed. "Get off me, please."
"Wha?" Winry then suddenly stood up. She had only realized that she hadn't let go of Ed until just now. With a stupid smile, she said, "Sorry, Ed," with her cheeks all red.
"Hmph," was all Ed could mutter as he shifted uncomfortably on the floor, trying to hide his own flustered face.
"If it's not too much trouble, yes."
Roy Mustang gave the still quite short Ed a ruffling on the head, which made him just scowl, seeing as the man was making fun of his height problem again. With a smile, Roy said cheerfully, "Of course, no problem! I'll have the money delivered to the academy later. And besides..."
Roy's smile faded as the feeling of the blood that had soiled his hands in the past dawned him once again.
"This is but a small favor for Ms. Rockbell," he added sadly.
"Anyway," Ed said loudly, trying to change the room's heavy atmosphere. "How's life as president?"
"Oh, it's great!" Roy replied right away, his enthusiasm having returned. "Oh, and Rita's going to have another baby soon!"
"What?" Ed asked, shocked. "But your other kid was just born four months ago, and now, another one?"
"Well, I'm hoping our third child will be a boy this time. Rita wants a boy too."
"Ha!" Ed laughed. "You two are just too active on the bed!"
Roy, irritated, but amused at the same time, locked his arm around the shorty's neck. "And what do you know about such things, huh?" he asked.
"You two, stop already."
Roy suddenly let go of Ed, who was coughing horribly, fixed himself, and approached Rita Hawkeye, who had just entered the room.
"How are you, honey?" he asked, leaning in for a kiss, but what he got back was a...
POW!
"Not in front of Ed, honey," she said in a serious tone. Ed, all the while, was laughing his head off at Roy's state.
"How have you been?" Ed asked her. "I heard you're having your third kid."
"Yes, well, we're hoping for a boy this time," Rita replied.
Strange, he thought to himself. It was such a beautiful day until a while ago...
He looked up to the sky with a smile, and received the cold raindrops that trickled down his face.
"Someone's... crying...," he had muttered. But he then looked down and knocked his head. "What the hell am I saying?"
He smiled again, and started to walk slowly towards the academy.
"It could be a blessing," he had muttered, trying to be optimistic.
But, it wasn't...
