Drabble: Bulletproof

MK

House

Wilson/House-ish

When Wilson graduated and started looking for internships and jobs and some kind of money to buy food with, he thought about the future. 'When I have a steady job,', 'When I'm married,', 'When I have kids,'. When he had those things he'd stop having to deal with hard questions, hard decisions, dilemmas.

He hadn't planned for what really happened. His steady job brought more hard questions in a week than most people faced in a year. "A radical mastectomy is your daughter's best chance for survival," slips out between his lips with the same familiarity that most people reserve for "I love you," or "Let's get out of here". His marriages were one dilemma after another, each of them somehow ending with the wrong decision. His kids had never happened.

So it might seem weird to people that House is his easy question. Anyone else looks at House and thinks, "Thank god I don't have to deal with that. That would cause so many problems." Wilson looks at House and thinks, "Thank god I have that. That solves so many problems."

Tired? Angry? Sad? Don't want to go home, back to work, or deal with crap? Play hooky. Hang out in Diagnostics playing Golden Eye on House's ancient N64 and argue over whether or not it's cheating to use Odd Job, whether or not Baron Samedi was based on Michael Jackson.

"What are you, a moron?"

"Probably. I do spend a lot of time with you," Wilson replies, and shoots House full of the many, many bullets his RCP-90 holds.

The stream of profanity is strangely comforting.
