Maybe Baby Makes Three
Disclaimer: I do not own CSI: New York. Anthony E. Zuiker does and I’m not nearly as smart as him to create three hit crime shows let alone a third of one.
Author’s Note: The pairings are Stella and Flack and Mac and Lindsay. These two pairings don’t get enough love on the fanfiction circuit and I love them both. Please review after you read this story I love reviews so much and I’ll take any suggestions from anyone to heart. I hope you enjoy the story.
Summary: As newlyweds Flack and Stella struggle to have their first child they long for what year long married Mac and Lindsay have, a bundle of joy to call their own. Will they conceive a baby or be heartbroken by the news they can’t have their own?
Chapter One: Lindsay’s Pregnant
Lindsay Monroe-Taylor walked out of the women’s bathroom at CSI for the fifth time that morning since she had come to work at 8:00 and it was now 8:30, she’d thrown up five times in the last half hour. That had to be some sort of world record. Shaking her head she took a deep breath and decided to pay a special visit to resident brainiac and former medical examiner Sheldon Hawkes hopefully he would have time to do this very special favor for her.
Walking into the break room she found him casually sipping coffee as he flicked through the channels on the TV. So far today had been pretty slow and knowing Hawkes he’d already finished the Times weekly crossword, it’s Sunday edition and the crossword of the day. Crossing her fingers as she walked over to him she only hoped the hunch she’d been having the past couple weeks and that at home test she’d taken yesterday would be confirmed as right by a blood test.
“Hey, Sheldon since there really isn’t that much going on I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor?” Lindsay asked nervously.
“No, I’m not taking your shift. You have an in with the boss so ask him to switch you with someone else.” Hawkes joked smiling.
“Ha, ha, very funny,” Lindsay says a slight blush forming around the apples of her cheeks, “Seriously, but Sheldon this is really important. Please do me this favor and I’ll get Mac to give you an easy case load for a week, remember I have an in with the boss.”
Sheldon flashed Lindsay a heart-warming smile saying, “Of course I’ll do you a favor Lindsay.”
Lindsay’s heart soared, she couldn’t believe he was actually going to do this for her; he was amazing.
“Okay, um do you think you could administer a blood test for me?”
“A blood test?” He asked intrigued, “I don’t see why not. May I ask what I’m looking for exactly?”
Lindsay looked around the break room and the hallway leading to the break room to make sure no one was walking by then she leaned further over to Sheldon and gave the room and hallway one more perimeter check.
“You’re looking to see if I’m pregnant.” She whispered so softly Hawkes wasn’t sure if he heard anything she said.
“Pregnant?”
“Yes, pregnant I took an at home test yesterday and it said I was pregnant, but you know how unreliable those things can be and I’ve been throwing up non stop and I have this great big feeling that I am. I just can’t wait for a doctor’s appointment. It’s too long. I need to know.”
“All right, I’ll administer the test. So you really believe you’re pregnant?”
“Yes, I do. In my heart I know I am, Sheldon. I can feel it. I’ve wanted to be a mother for so long and now that I have Mac and I know how much he wants to be a father, I can’t wait three weeks for some doctor’s appointment. I need to know that Mac and I need to know.”
Sheldon nodded in understanding and followed Lindsay out of the break room and into the vacant DNA lab, shutting the door behind him he rolled up the right sleeve of Lindsay’s purple cashmere sweater and put some iodine on a cotton swab and rubbed it over the vein. He grabbed a syringe and carefully punctured through her skin, once satisfied with the amount of blood inside he placed it in a container and began the analysis on the sample.
Lindsay meanwhile waited with bated breath for the results. She and Mac had been married a little over a year now and they had talked about having children. Lindsay knew no matter how much Mac tried to hide it or push it aside he wanted desperately to have a baby, a chance that had passed him by when his first wife Claire had passed away. She hoped today she’d confirm medically what she already knew in her heart and her soul, which she was pregnant with Mac’s baby and his dreams of becoming a father would finally come to fruition.
Hawkes came back from analyzing Lindsay’s blood sample to find its owner nervously pacing the hallway like a caged panther. For someone who seemed so sure a few minutes ago she now seemed very unsure. But Hawkes knew how much she and Mac wanted to have children so he could see every reason she had to be so anxious. She really did need to stop pacing for she would only succeed in making both of them nauseous by her constant movement.
“Lindsay, I have the results of your test.” He said to place a gentle hand on her shoulder.
“Just tell me, okay. There’s no sense in building up my suspense, I just want to know if I am.”
“You am.” Hawkes whispered a smile spreading across his face.
Lindsay stood there; I complete shock. Hawkes just told her she was pregnant. Finally after about six or seven and a half years Mac’s dream was finally coming true and she was carrying his baby. Together they had done the most precious thing in the world. They created a life from their love. A tiny little person, a boy or a girl with her eyes and his hair was growing inside of her as she stood across from Sheldon too amazed for words.
Lindsay then threw her arms around Sheldon pulling the surprised man into a warm and tight embrace as she whispered, “Thank you for making our dreams come true, Sheldon.”
Hawkes chuckled wryly as he reciprocated the hug, “You and Mac did that on your own, Lindsay I just ran the blood sample you gave me.”
“I can’t wait to tell Mac.”
With that statement Lindsay let Hawkes go and walked up the stairs to her husband’s office bursting with joy at the news she had for him.
