Chapter Forty One: The One Where The Flacks Visit
Stella smiled as she carried the big bouquet of Stargazer lilies and gardenias Lindsay’s favorite flowers her husband carried a large basket of her favorite things; such as all the Home and Garden magazine’s she missed out on while in the hospital, her Sweet Pea lotion from Bath and Body, hair brush, tooth brush and the presents they had gotten Lindsay and the twins.
They knocked on Lindsay’s hospital room door and smiled brightly when they heard her familiar voice say, “Come in.”
Walking in Stella and Don smiled at their friend, glad that she was doing better and would soon be able to see here children. Looking around the room they noticed it was filled with flowers and the presents that everyone had brought to her and Mac’s place but couldn’t give her or the twins because she had ended up in the hospital.
“Hey bestest buddy how are you feeling?” Stella asked pulling up a chair next to Lindsay’s bed side.
“As good as I can be, I guess. I mean I’m not in any pain which is good but I wish I could see Cameron and Claire. I want to hold my babies.” Lindsay whispered as a tear slid down her cheek.
“Hey, hey no crying,” Flack says, “I hate it when you cry cause when you cry Stella starts to cry and I don’t like that too much either. Besides like everyone else whose been in and out of here we come baring gifts which means you have to be happy.”
“Just set them where you can find room Mac and I aren’t opening them until we get home with the twins, but I’m really glad you brought me all my back issues of H&G I was getting tired of reading about whom Paris Hilton was seen with this week.”
“Has the doctor told you when you can see the twins yet?”
“He says as soon as I can sit in a wheel chair comfortably but it’s going to be another couple of days before I can go down there. Mac took the digital camera and is supposed to be bringing some pictures of them which is good enough for now.”
“Think he’ll let Bob and Millie and Hannah and Ryan see the pictures Stell?” Don asked chuckling.
“What do you mean Flack? His parents haven’t seen them yet? What about mine?”
“No, they haven’t, yours or Mac’s he won’t let anyone see Cameron or Claire until their Mommy gets better; he made all of us swear that we wouldn’t take his or your parents down there.”
Lindsay giggled at her husband’s rule of forbidding anyone else from seeing their children before their Mommy. She knew Millie and her Mom were probably getting very anxious while both her Dad and Bob were probably going to have heart attacks if they couldn’t start teaching little Cameron how to play baseball soon. It was so like Mac to think of her before everyone else including himself.
“When I saw Mac after I woke up he looked pretty run down. He’s okay right? I mean he hasn’t been spending morning noon and night here has he?”
Stella shot Don a look as if to say you want to take that one and he did, clearing his throat he explained, “Lindsay Danny and I had to convince Mac to go home for twenty minutes just so he could shower and shave. He never left at any point during the four days you Cameron and Claire have been here. It was getting to be a little ridiculous.”
“Don!” Stella admonished shooting him a dirty look.
“What it’s the truth! Mac was a nervous wreck the entire time and you know it Stella. Hell you saw it first hand when he came down to tell Shannon to tell us that Lindsay was stabilized. He would spend his morning visiting the twins and his evenings he would spend with you.” Flack explained smiling.
“What do you mean he would spend his evenings with me? There’s only one bed in this room. Where would he sleep?”
“In the chair I’m sitting in right now.” Stella said sheepishly.
“That sounds exactly like him.” Lindsay mused as she yawned, “I never thought after being a sleep for four days I could be this tired.”
“Well all right hubby that’s our cue to exit Mommy needs her rest and so does this Mommy; my feet are killing me. Are your ankles really going to swell five times their normal size when their pregnant?”
“Just wait until you’re as pregnant as I was a few days ago they’ll feel like you have to stick bowling balls in your shoes along with the rest of your feet. Thank you for coming to visit, Stella; you too, Flack it was nice to see you guys again. Have you found out whether you’re having a boy or a girl?”
“We’re having a baby boy who I’m sure will make fast friends with Cameron.”
“I’d like that.” Lindsay mumbled before her eyes drifted close and she fell asleep.
Stella and Flack smiled at their friend and he leaned over pulling the blanket up over her tiny form so she would stay warm while she slept. They knew Mac would be back to take care of her but it was the least they could do.
