Interlude: Praise Our Hero
I don’t think there are words enough to describe just what you mean to us, just what you mean to this entire world, just what you mean to me. No, to put this in writing is a near impossible task, for which I am attempting to do, whether it can be done at all… feelings are hard things to describe…
Don’t think I’m just saying this to cheer you up, or whatever other excuse you think up for my saying this, because what I’m saying is the truth! You are more than you seem to be, and I am, we all are, very grateful to you.
You have carried the burdens of the Wizarding world, the burdens of many lives to save, the burdens of protecting your friends… You’ve figured your way through secrets and dangers… you’ve stood between us all and darkness… you’ve come so close to death more often than anyone I know…
Look at what you’ve done! Look at the impact your being has had upon our world! If anyone deserves the life that you have given others a chance to live, it is you!
My heart tears when I think about it… for you are a tragic hero… your life has never been your own, never have you been able to choose freely your path, your destiny already plotted for you, your existence centered in the fate of this world, the outcome of your actions, and of his, determining the future beyond your lives, whether it be a terrible and dark place where murder and torture is never-ending, or whether it be the world of peace and light… and love… that you so desperately fight for…
You have experienced horrors that I can barely imagine, lost people too soon, and had your life robbed from you before you were even born…
You are so humble in your opinion of yourself. You are so selfless, always putting the lives of others before your own… never wanting to let those you love fall into the pits of danger…
You are strong. Not just in magic, but in character, in heart, and in will. You are someone to be admired, and I admire you more than you’ll ever know.
You have been able to balance the world on your shoulders, from your less-than-encouraging family, to problems at school, to quidditch games and friendships, to fighting evil…
You continue to survive and that gives us all what we are looking for; a light in the dark…
Your story has touched my heart deeply, and whether or not it matters to you, it has made all the difference in my life, and many other lives. Just knowing you has given me a sense to do better myself… to reach my own potential… to try my very best… especially since my goals are made of free will…
I want you to understand all this, even if I can’t tell you. Your impact upon the world has been tremendous and good.
And I want to thank you…
Harry… Harry Potter… you are our shining light… our guiding light of… hope.

AN – Another item from the closet. I wrote this after the fifth book, before the sixth book came out. I realize now that he does have free will, to a certain extent, to choose his own path. The whole “walking into a fight standing tall vs. being dragged in” thing. You can take it from any character’s point of view – I didn’t want to be specific. There are some elements of this that I really like, which is why I’m posting it, but otherwise, the story has sort of faded on me. Any thoughts are always appreciated so don’t hesitate to press that lovely little review button. Thanks!
