“…”: Is English speech

”: Is German speech

Italics: Is telepathy

Pairings: Jott, other pairings haven’t been decided yet…

Author’s Note: The X-Men in my story will focus’s on the main cast of Cyclops (Scott Summers), Rogue, Shadowcat (Katharine ‘Kitty’ Pryde), Jean Grey, Spyke (Evan Daniels), and Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner). Wolverine (James Howlett) and Storm (Ororo Munroe, Evan will refer to her many times in the story as Auntie O) will be among them also but they won’t get focused on as much as the other’s. The story’s set off after Joyride in X-Men Evolution. Other character’s might become more important in the story, but that would be revealing too much of the plot…

The main cast of Naruto will be Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Haruno Sakura, and Hatake Kakashi. The Naruto universe that I will use in my story is slightly AU, Orochimaru never appeared during the Chuunin exams. Thus, Sasuke never left or got the curse seal. Naruto and Sakura’s relationship never matured like it did in the manga due to the separation and betrayal of their teammate. Naruto still asks Sakura out, even though she’s been rejecting him for years. Sasuke’s a little more softhearted; he has warmed up to Naruto and Sakura, although he still doesn’t return Sakura’s advances. Sasuke’s still a bastard, but…he’s a nice bastard. All of Team 7 are Chuunin’s and sometimes get together to train with their old sensei Kakashi. Tsunade is the Sixth Hokage, the Fifth Hokage died of a heart attack in my fic.

Disclaimer: I do not own any Naruto or X-Men: Evolution characters.

Chapter 1:

“Scott, like, don’t be such a prick.” Screeched one very angry Kitty Pryde.

“Kitty, you should of known he’d betray us like that,” Cyclops, the X-Men’s field leader, followed the angry brunette through one the hallways of the large mansion owned by Charles Xavier. “ He doesn’t care about anyone but himself.”

“How can you say that, he like, saved Iceman and the other’s lives,” Scott attempted to voice a protest, but she continued on, effectively cutting him off “if Lance hadn’t of warned me the new recruits were gonna go on a joyride, (A/N: see the X-Men: Evolution episode called Joyride for more information) they probably would of died out there!” She turned toward her leader and friend, a full-fledged glare on her petite face.

“He went back to the brotherhood, Kitty, if that isn’t proof eno-“ He began.

“He went back because you accused him of stealing the blackbird!” She threw up her hands in frustration and walked back toward her and Rogue’s room.

When she reached the room, she flung open the door with a bang, and with the same amount of force, slammed the door behind her.

“Damn, Kitty, could ya be any louder?” Kitty’s best friend dryly replied. Rogue took off the headphones she been previously wearing. The music was still on, just in case she had to drown out the sound of Kitty’s rambling on about nothing.

“Shut up, Rogue, I don’t want to hear it right now.” Kitty said in a low tone. She angrily flopped down, headfirst, on top of the bed horizontal to Rogue’s across of the room they both shared. She hid her head in the pillow, trying to bury herself in its depths.

“…” Rogue was shocked, she had never, in her entire time in the X-Men, heard Kitty talk back at her. Usually she’d drown Rogue in her cheerfulness, or completely ignore her sarcastic remarks. Kitty had never told her, even once, to shut up.

Rogue and Kitty shared a rare moment of silence. Rogue blankly looking at Kitty like she’d grown a second head, and Kitty simply continuing to ignore her with her head in the pillow.

“…So what’s got your panties in a bunch?” Rogue finally said, breaking the uncomfortable silence that had overcome the roommates.

“Hmph” Was Kitty’s barely audible reply.

“Kitty…now I’m worried, I can’t even get ya to shut up on a daily basis and now all of a sudden ya don’t wanna talk to me?” Worry clearly laced through her reply. Kitty couldn’t even stand thirty seconds of silence. Usually, by then she’d be fidgeting in her seat, clearly uncomfortable.

Kitty slowly raised her head from the pillows, to show, to Rogue’s increasing worry, fresh tears slipping down her face. Rogue hadn’t noticed that Kitty was crying. She got up and walked over to her roommate’s bed and kneeled down in front of her.

“Talk t’a me, Kitty, your always there for me, always defending me,” With these words she slid her gloved hand towards kitty’s, whose hand hanged limply at the sides of her body on the bed. Rogue grasped it firmly and gave a reassuring squeeze as she continued. “Now it’s my turn, if there is anything you wanna to talk t’a me about just say it and Ah’m here for ya.” She said the last words softly and she looked at her teammate with affection she rarely showed to anyone.

“I-I J-ust can’t for-get about L-lance,” She finally stuttered out. “I know that Scott, like, wants me to forget about him, but I can’t.” She sighed, “He just means so much to me.” She wiped the tears out of her eyes and sat up in her bed.

“C’mon give ah gal a smile and brighten up, Lance ain’t gonna be in the brotherhood forever, if he’s smart, he’ll quit once he gets his temper in check and will come back to ya.” Rogue offered reassuringly.

“Don’t worry, those tears are more out of frustration than sadness,” She put her hand on the goth girl’s shoulder “This is the fifth time this month Scott and I have fought about Lance leaving.” She wiped the bangs out her face and looked thoughtful for a second.

“It was Scott who made ya cry?” Rogue gave Kitty a questioning look. Kitty nodded as a reply. “Well then…I’ll just have to have a little ‘talk’ with him is all.” She got up from her crouched position and made a move for the door, but was stopped by Kitty’s hand on her shoulder, preventing her from leaving.

“Your version of ‘talking’ is you shouting, yelling, and threatening to take off your gloves then absorb the person your yelling at,” At this she gave a heartfelt giggle.

“Well, if I didn’t, like, who would, like, knock some sense into him?” Rogue said grinning, imitating her friend’s valley girl accent.

“No one, just let it go. I don’t need anyone protecting me.” She said this in a serious tone. “Besides, it would be cruel for him to get yelled at after getting all of his underwear frozen.” Kitty added with an evil glint in her eye.

“Kitty…what did you do?” Rogue said, slightly fearing what other little things Kitty forgot to mention.

“Oh nothing…just paid Iceman five bucks to make Scott’s week a living hell.” She added with mock innocence. “Or in his case, a frozen hell.” She giggled again.

“You will nevah change, will ya,” She groaned while burying her face in her hands. “And is listening to your bad jokes a punishment, too, Kitty?” Rogue said into her hands, with a smile tugging at her lips, her voice was tinged with obvious amusement. For an answer she was hit with a pillow upside the head. Rogue shook it off and suggested they go to the living to watch some movies to get their minds off of things. Kitty replied with an “okay”.

Both girls stood up and headed toward the hallway. They went to the living room, sparing a few “hi’s” for greeting’s as they went by other students of the Xavier Institute. They were about to enter the living room when a familiar voice was heard inside the heads of both girls.

X-Men, if you could be so kind as to report to my office, I would supply you with some interesting information concerning our good friend Magneto’s whereabouts, Rogue and Kitty stopped in their tracks.

“Don’t you, like, hate it when he does that.” Kitty stated, shivering slightly. She would never get used the professor talking to her in her head.

“Yeah, sometimes, feels like he actually enjoys spooking us,” Rogue also shivered slightly. “I also sometimes question the sanity of some of my other housemates.” She glanced at Kitty at the corner of her eye then quickly exited the living room they had just entered and turned around the corner, making her way to Xavier’s office. Kitty stood still not making any advancement to follow her teammate, then slowly her eyes widened in realization. She took after her teammate.

“Hey! You better not be including me in that, Rogue!” Rogue smiled to herself and shook her head.

“Of course not.” She fluttered her eyelashes at Kitty then quickly ran the rest of the way to Xavier’s office.

“Lair!” She ran after Rogue. Both girls made to the office in record time, panting slightly at the run they both had, Xavier’s was after all a big place.

They opened the door to the professor’s office. Both girls entered the room, only half-interested in the decorations as they took in the surrounding room. It was a small room compared to all the other rooms in the mansion. The walls were lined with gold medals, silver plaques, and some pictures of the students here at the institute. The walls were painted a thick pearl, with the floor a dark shade of green. In the back of the room was a well-organized desk and behind it was a man whom every person in the institute had a great deal of respect for. His posture was tall and proud; dispute his obvious handicap, though no one could say the professor was any less intimidating in a wheel chair. The professor raised a questioning eyebrow at the door girls.

“Good evening, Rogue, Shadowcat,” Xavier nodded his head to both girls, a greeting of sorts. Then continued. “ What brings you here so early, I’d think it would take you at least five minutes to get here?” He asked. Although the professor was a telepath, he didn’t always know what his students were thinking, he restricted himself to only using his telepathy as necessary. He, afterall, didn’t want to pry anymore than needed.

“Nothing, Professor, just having a chat with Kitty,” Rogue tilted her head slightly at the petite brunette beside her.

He nodded. “We will wait for your teammates to arrive,” He said. “I don’t want to repeat what I’m going to be telling you all.” He didn’t look like he was going to answer any further questions and he busied himself with a stack of papers on his desk. Rogue and Kitty surveyed the room with bored expressions gracing their faces.

A minute later Nightcrawler and Evan walked in, talking animatedly about something.

“Dude, Kane would never loose to the Angle, you’re delusional.” Evan told Kurt. He and Kurt, from what the girls could gather were discussing some kind of fight between two well-known wrestlers. This didn’t interest the girls so they kept their mouths shut.

Nein, freund Evan, Kane would sooo lose to the Angle.” Kurt replied in a know-it-all tone. He was known, among the students here in the institute at least, as a notorious prankster. Though not as bad as a certain ice-generating mutant, who was expected to perform at least one prank every week.

“Man, you don’t know what you’re talking about.” Evan flopped down on one of Xavier’s office chairs.

Kurt shifted his gaze to the two girls that were also present in the office.

Schwester, Kitty, vhat are you guy’s doing here so early?” Kurt asked.

“What is it with everybody thinking we show up late for everything!” Rogue glared at her ‘brother’.

“…But both of you always do show up late.” Kurt simply stated, his yellow gaze going up and down Rogue’s frame. “You’re not sick are you, Schwester?” He moved and put a gloved hand on her head. “Can’t feel any warmth…but I am wearing gloves.” Rogue smacked his hands away, scowl on her pale features. There was a flicker of hurt in his eyes that Rogue almost missed, but he covered it up quickly as he shrugged indifferently and stared at a space on the wall.

Rogue felt guilt welt inside her.

“Kurt…ah’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me.” She sighed. She glanced back at Kitty, only to see her sitting in the chair parallel to Evan’s, a bored expression on her face. She leaned into Kurt’s ear and whispered. “Besides, it’s not me you need to be worrying about.” With this she gave Kurt a look and tilted her head in the direction of the distracted brunette.

“What’s wrong with her, is she krank?” Kurt couldn’t keep the worry out of his voice if he tried.

“She’s just…depressed, I guess, ever since…you know…Lance…and stuff.” Rogue didn’t elaborate any further, hoping he got the message.

“Oh…I see.” He nodded and the rest of the time was spent waiting for the remaining members of the X-Men.

Scott and Jean walked in together about three minutes later. Which was unusual since both of them were always so punctual. They were perfectionist couple of the institute, or that’s what the New Mutant kid’s called them. Which was given, Rogue thought at least, with good reason. Both Jean and Scott were known for being uptight. Really uptight. Really, really, really uptight. So uptight that Rogue could swear that there must be a huge stick stuck up their ass for them to be so uptight…

Anyway, from what Rogue could see they were both a little flushed. A pink blush covered both their faces, and they also avoided each other’s gaze, looking at everything but the other. Their clothes were also a little wrinkled…what could of they been do-? Oh! Oh…now that’s just sick. They couldn’t of found somewhere else better to do stuff like that than here! Like a movie or a mall, or maybe not even do IT at all…

Since when did she turn so pessimistic? Rogue thought to herself. She shrugged and listened with contempt as Jean and Scott scolded, subtly so, by Xavier. Why they even bothered lying to a telepath, Rogue didn’t know.

“Scott…Jean, so nice to see you two looking so punctual today.” Xavier commented with a blank look. Though his voice betrayed what his expression didn’t, annoyance.

“Umm…sorry Professor, we didn’t think we’d go on any missions today so…” Scott tried to defend himself.

The Professor sighed.

“Nevermind…we will discuss this later, you and Jean.” Jean and Scott both nodded their heads, embarrassment clearly etched on their faces.

“I’d like to inform all of you that you will be going to a lab in Japan, from my sources we have been able to identify that the lab contained several mutants who, one way or another, were captured and tested on in this facility,” He drew a breath and continued. “You are to go and infiltrate the facility and rescue as many mutants as you can, but you must leave if you encounter any type of danger you are unfamiliar with, is that understood.” The senior mutant students of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters nodded their heads with acknowledgement.

The fact that there were mutants out there that were brought into to labs to be tested on didn’t surprise them, they’ve had missions like this one many times before. It was all too common for mutants to be the subjects of scientist’s curiosity and were poked, prodded, and tested on like animals. They, to some humans at least, were animals.

“Good…Wolverine and Storm will be accompanying you on your mission. They will provide support should things…get out of hand.” Xavier looked all the X-Men over. “Be safe and cautious, that is all.” The X-Men all left Xavier’s study together, all of them going to change into their uniforms.

Rogue hardened on the inside. She knew what to expect when they got there. Little kids, teenagers, adults, or elder mutants, in cells, on lab tables, sometimes even in small metal boxes. Restrained from using their powers. Some with bruises, scars, and wounds from the tests they were subjected to. She remembered the tormented look in their eyes, watching them warily. Some of the mutants found looked out with emotionless eyes, like they were dead. Maybe on the inside…they were.

So, she had to steady herself, harden her emotions, and will herself not breakdown at the horrific scenes she’d seen many times before. However, knowing didn’t change the fact that she felt like throwing up at the thought of it.

After getting into their uniforms, the X-Men headed toward the blackbird, where Wolverine and Storm were already waiting. Rogue and the rest of the X-Men climbed into the blackbird.

Rogue’s last thoughts before she took off were…

And this morning had started out as such a great a day, too…so much for that.

I revised this chapter little bit, re-reading it for a second time I saw what horrible grammer I left in this chapter. Never again will I leave grammer uncorrected...okay, now that's just a big fat lie. Sorry, but I'm human. I will, however, try to improve my grammer as I go. Until next time, bye!
