Living Together, Yet Dying Alone
The fire crackled as she sat by it, her chocolate colored hair shining in the light. Her eyes reflected the fire along with the hurt, the pain, the sorrow that she held with in. Her arms wrapped around her legs, her smile gone, wiped away from her face for a long time.
Jack and Sawyer had died, left her, when they were heading back. They left her, but she knew they didn't mean too. But they did, and that was what hurt the most. She grimaced as she remembered what had happened. Sawyer had been shot out of no where, killing him instantly. And then Jack had shielded her. She had shot the man in front of her after Jack had fallen to the floor.
And it was over. Every single one was gone. Every single other. Dead. The man she had killed had been the last one. And then she had knelt down by his side, holding his head in her lap as she talked him through the pain and sorrow that was coursing not only through his body, but through hers as well as he died slowly.
There was nothing she could do. He was going, slipping from her grasp every second they talked. And finally he said the three words she had longed to hear. Not to hear when he was dying of course, but to hear on a walk through the sand during a sun set, or after a kiss in the jungle. I love you. And then she kissed him, putting everything she had into it. He died in the middle of that kiss.
She had sobbed, staying there for two days until Sayid found them, her laying on the ground, her head on his bloody chest. Sayid had thought she was dead until he felt her pulse as she slowly woke to his soft touch. He had held her as she sobbed; her two best friends and loves had died. He knew how it felt for someone you loved to die so suddenly.
He held her, rubbing her back, saying encouraging words to her. And then they went back. Back to camp. The place she wanted to be yet didn't want to go anywhere near. Everyone would try and comfort her, hold her as she cried, talk her through her depression. The only person she wanted to hold her was Jack or Sawyer. But both were gone, and both would stay that way.
The fire crackled in her ears, the sound of a gun repeating itself in her head, going over and over, never stopping. A tear slid down her cheek.
Life wasn't fair, not to her, not to Jack, not to Sawyer. Life sucked. But life sucking was a part of life. And that doesn't make sense, she thought.
She closed her eyes and opened them, white sheets of paper appearing when she opened her eyes again as she sat in front of a desk, writing her survival story. What had happened to her on the island as everyone else that lived had or was doing. The last words she wrote before putting the papers into her manila envelope were 'Either we Live together, or we die alone. I think we all lived together, yet we all died alone. At least, that was how it was with me.'
