Chapter 1

The pre summer sets

I really loved the smell of fresh cut grass... it always meant that summer was on its way! I sat on the front porch looking at the clear blue sky, I took a deep breath and exhaled, I loved this time of year school was coming to an end, I could hang with my friends, and I wouldn't have to wake up at 5:41 in the morning anymore! I could finally sleep in and with me that will be until 7:30. I can't help getting up early, it has become a habit after all the years of going to school day in and day out, but some of my friends on the other hand, can sleep past Noon if they wanted.

There's no hope of a snow day or and early out due to bad weather, we have to suffer through the bitter cold winters and boiling hot summers, the only relief was vacations and early outs on a very rare occasion...

School was a drag, sure I get good grades and I get along with a lot of my teachers, but it was a pain for 180 days a year. Only one day a year at school was there hope for a day off, and that was Jog-a-Thon! The most beloved day of the year for students, where whoever signes up gets a special shirt and jog a mile around the school track, some people get together in teams and do various activities like the Obstacle Course, Dizzy bat, and Tug-a-War. And if there's time left over they will let the grades compete in Tug-a-War, it's a lot of fun. Last year when I was a freshman the juniors went up against us and of course they won, we put up a good fight though... This year now that I'm up a grade higher that we show the new juniors whos boss!

I always get excited for Jog-a-Thon it was a lot of fun and they only day to have fun, not to mention it was near the end of the school year. I always sign up for Jog-a-Thon the money that the school raises goes to new gym equipment or replacing something, and a lot of people have been complaining that the gym needs work. I couldn't agree more, the floor boards are always in the way...

School may be a drag sometimes, but hey what can you do? Not much I'm afraid... It's a really good thing I live in a great city full of peaceful people that love to help each other and the town. How I love this place, no one can seem to hate it for any reason, it's peaceful, quiet, some crime, great people, and a lot to do. I could tell that this would be a great summer for me. Even though last summer wasn't the best one I had, I just knew that this one would be different.

But little did he know that this year would be a lot different for him, because whenever he and his friends do something or go somewhere together there's danger ready to pounce on them...
