Will-bringer here! Reedited and bringing you all a side story parallel to Yu-Gi-Oh GX.

Though the timeline and events may match the show, one thing is for certain! None of the characters of this story will related to any characters in the animation / manga. (The dueling part is easy, it is kinda hard…trying to matching the show and getting every detail in order to fix the timing of this story just right…)

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh/ Yu-Gi-Oh GX, all original characters. All of them are property of Kazuki Takahashi.

Aoiyama Shogo, Ichimaru Jinsei by me.

Yu-Gi-oh GX: Destiny Draw

Chapter 1: My name is Aoiyama Shogo.

The stage was set the Duel Academy application arena in Kaiba Land of Kaiba Corporation. A boy, the age of 16, sits at top row of the arena as he waits patiently for his turn in test duel. He has slightly long, dirty dark hair but one would never know it by directly looking at him. He’s skinny, but not thin, and strangely his face looked almost childish like a girl. He wears a pair of light blue jeans and black winter jacket over a red T-shirt to keep himself warm from the breeze. Finally, hanging around his neck looks seemingly like a small deck box; small enough keep a few cards but not big enough to house a deck. Strangely, the card box is taped heavily like it was not to be opened.

One would expect to analyze the examiner’s decks so that they can counter against their decks. However, this lad is barely even paying attention to the duels being held below; at the beginning since the exam started, he had head threw back, eyes closed and he was…snoring.

Just then, a voice sounded from the loud speaker echoing through the stadium. “Attendee number 108, Aoiyama Shogo, please report to arena for your admittance test.”

But the boy did not listen, instead he just turn away from the noise which he assumes to be his alarm clock screaming at him to go to another day of school. “Attendee number 108, Aoiyama Shogo…please report to arena for admittance test…” the speaker continue to bellow while the tone of the person on the mike sounded irritated.

Finally, boy lazily rises from his seat with a strange mix of melancholy and sleep look in his eyes. But then, he suddenly snaps off from the top and stormed down the stairs with his duel disc when remembers what he was suppose to be doing.

“Right, right, right, I’m comin! I’m comin!” The boy muttered as run off into the arena where he was called to, when he got there; he takes out his deck and started flipping it though for any last minute adjustment.

After equipping the duel disc along with his deck, he takes in a deep breath as he eyes began travel along the stands closest to his arena. Sadly there was one that he knew was there, the lad’s head tilted slight to the right in disappointment.

His opponent was the usual official looking type, not much personality could be seen here. Crude hair cut and sharp a face like his attitude, but oddly he looked younger than all the examiners around. The loud speaker boomed loudly. “Please standby.”

The examiner was busy looking through the paper when found something intriguing. “Number…108, Aoiyama Shogo…wait…it says here…you didn’t take the written test…why?” the official asked.

“It doesn’t matter, does it…I mean, all we need to do is just win this duel…” the boy answered dully not even looking at him.

“Arena C-3, please begin your match.” The speaker initialized the beginning of the duel. The boy’s opponent shouts to him, “Fine, when I duel weather in tests or otherwise I expect my opponent to give me their best! So I will not treat you like an attendee, but a fellow duelist! My name is Ichimoji Jinsei. Aoiyama Shogo, are you prepared to duel?” as he puts aside the log of attendees and poses his duel disc after drawing five cards.

Suddenly, the boy’s facial expression changed as he continues to staring at the stand. Unlike what was before, he look more energized. The boy’s behavior caught the examiner’s attention as he too faces the stands.

Just off the edge, a group of children barely eight to ten years old was gathering and shouting. Clearly the little munchkins are cheering for the lad as they hurriedly spread a cloth banner as a sign; on it was written…

“Red Eyes Black Warriors”

“Red…” the official muttered before the boy interrupted.

“Sorry the late introduction, my name is Aoiyama Shogo; alias ‘Red Eyes’” he introduce himself as he grin madly. When examiner took his eyes off the crowd on towards his opponent, there and then only did he notice the boy’s eyes. His eyes were almost blood red.

“Let kick it up a notch, each player starts off with eight thousand life points and I want you to use you original deck…” Shogo demanded as he straightens his posture and readies he duel disc with five cards in hand.

“What’s the catch…?” Jinsei asked curiously trying hard not to look to deep into his opponents eyes.

“If I win, I want a commendation to be promoted to Ra-yellow. If I lose, worse come to worst I will give you my deck as a trophy” Shogo waved his disc with his deck on board.

“Hmph, suit yourself!” Jinsei jeers as takes out the examination dueling deck and inserts his own deck. “As you want life point starts at eight thousand! The admittance rules state, I shall go first!”

LP (Jinsei: 8000 / Shogo: 8000)

“You dare show such arrogance toward an administrator…Of course you will regret that you asked me to use my own deck! Now, DRAW, I summon Berserk Gorilla (2000/1000) and set two face down cards!” a giant gorilla appears on the field along with two face down cards behind it. “Turn end! Your move!”

“You really want to pummel me fast don’t you?” Shogo draws and looks over his cards for a few seconds, “Graceful Charity! Draw three cards, drop two into the grave.” Immediately three cards were drawn from the deck and without hesitation slit two cards into the slot know to be the graveyard of the duel disc.

“Here I come! Summon Red-Eyes Black Chick (800/500)”, then on playing field came an egg, two glowing red eyes can been seen glowing through the crack. “Then using Red-Eyes Black Chick’s effect to tribute summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon (2400/2000)!”

The egg vanishes and in its place flew in a giant black dragon manifesting itself over Shogo’s head. The ground shakes from its appearance when full armor plate black dragon planted its two feet on to the duel field, it eyes flared red almost like the eyes from Shogo.

‘The attack of the first monster he summoned is to low, I can’t use Trap Hole. Neither can I stop Red-Eyes Black Dragon from coming because it was special summoned. Come on…if you attack me, I’ve got a Magic Cylinder waiting. Either way I should be safe at least this turn…’ Jinsei thought as he prepares for Shogo’s battle phase.

However instead of battling Shogo shift one card into his playing hand and activated it. “GO, magic card! Inferno Fire Blast! Damage your life points equal to Red-Eyes Black Dragon’s original attack” The pitch black dragon’s mouth begins to flame before it launch a large black fire ball across the field exploding into Jinsei causing him to topple backwards onto the floor.

LP (Jinsei: 5600 /Shogo: 8000)

“Damn…” Jinsei groan as he slowly picks himself from the ground. But before the smoke clears, another fire ball comes flying into him again exploding knocking him down again. Puzzled, Jinsei screamed “WHAT JUST HAPPENED!”

As the smoke finally clears, Shogo could be seen standing on his zone waiting. “Sorry…when I use the ‘Fire Blast’ you didn’t seem to have any countermeasure. So…I took the liberty of ‘following through’.” Shogo flip one of his cards for his opponent to see. The card was Magic Stone Mining. “I’ve already dropped two cards into my grave to bring Inferno Fire Blast and reactivated it…” Shogo explained as he dropped the used magic card into his grave.

“I lastly set my last card down and end my turn…” a face down appeared on Shogo’s feet so end his turn without entering battle phase.

LP (Jinsei: 3200 /Shogo: 8000)

Jinsei slowly return to his station, but he was less than pleased. As easily as that, the duel could have ended.

“It seems I’ve underestimated you…I apologize, but you have actually left yourself in the worse predicament a duelist could have…you have no cards in hand now…” Jinsei smiled sinisterly while eyeing Shogo’s empty hand. “Yeah…for now” Shogo replied confidently.

“Fine! First, I play the magic card Snatch and Steal to take control of your Red-Eyes Black Dragon.” A ghostly hand stretches across the field and grabs Shogo’s thump card, dragging it to the opposite side of the field.

Then, he chimes in boastfully “Eh, if you think that this is a simple problem of betrayal, think again! Now I sacrifice your Red-Eyes Black Dragon for my Great Maju Garzett (0/0).” The great black dragon vanishes, and, in its place, a giant pinkish demon looms over the field. Its orange eyes glare at Shogo with his only protection; one face down set card.

“I see, Great Maju Garzett, his attack is equal to twice the monster it uses to tribute…” Shogo stated as he glared back at the giant monstrosity with the bright eyes of his own. “That right” Jinsei laughs, “My new monster gains twice the attack points that your dragon had which is four thousand eight hundred.”

Jinsei’s field: Berserk Gorilla (2000/1000), Great Maju Garzett (4800/0)

Shogo’s field: Blank

Shogo let out deep breaths as his awaits Jinsei’s assault. “Now, attack him!” Jinsei commanded as both his beast charge of the kill. Where one reels back a giant fist and strikes downwards, leveling Shogo. Another jumped high into the air and pounded onto him, leaving red eyed boy kneeling on the ground.

LP (Jinsei: 3200 / Shogo: 1200)

“Smart, thought your face down can trick me eh... Your move.” Jinsei proudly gloated.

Shogo draws his card, “Activate trap card, Reckless Greed. I’ll draw two extra cards…”

“Activating Reckless Greed after your draw phase will net you three cards…however, you’ll have to skip your next two draw phases…why?” Jinsei queries.

“This is where it starts! This is when everything comes together! It’s time for Destiny Draw!” Shogo spread his jacket as his readies his move. “From my hand, I use Pot of Greed. I’ll draw two cards.” Quick as a spark he draws two cards from his deck and discards the used card, a quick read from his hand and once again he continued his phase. “Now Heavy Storm, destroy all magic trap cards” a gust of wind overwhelmed the field, destroying all of Jinsei’s face down cards. “Then magic card Premature Burial, return Red-Eyes Black Dragon and I’ll summon The Dark-Hex-Sealed Fusion (1000/1600)!” With the return of the giant black dragon that takes the field by its beauty followed a strange little disconfigured dark color stone like creature which appear in front of Shogo.

LP (Jinsei: 3200 / Shogo: 400)

“Huh? What is that?” Jinsei eyed the strange rock dumbfounded.

The Dark-Hex-Sealed Fusion, I can substitute this card for any one fusion material monster. When on field with the necessary material, I can call a fusion-monster without using Polymerization…” the dark colored stone started emitting a vortex engulfing both dragon and rock into it, then from the depths of the swirling space emerged the new fusion monster; twice as big as the original black dragon and likeness of a demon. As it flapped its massive wings hovering above Shogo, even the walls of the arena started the shake loose. “Fusion between Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Summoned Skull … Fly! Red-Eyes Black Skull Dragon (3200/2500)!”

“That’s impressive but how are you going defeat me now? That is unless you have a clear shot at me…” Jinsei stated, his tone sounded unsure.

“My last card…is…Megamorph.” Shogo flip the last card in hand and show Jinsei. “Red-Eyes Black Skull Dragon’s attack and defense will be double (6400/5000), GO! Attack Berserk Gorilla (2000/1000)” Jinsei gasped as stares at the newly summoned giant dragon as it hails over both of his monsters, as it breaths in, its mouth begins to flame in black. Then like rain drops, black meteors started raining over the prime ape setting it blaze along with its owner.

(Jinsei: 0 / Shogo: 400)

“AHRRGH!” Jinsei fell to the ground as all his monsters vanished signifying the end of the duel. The crowd goes wild as the duel end, especially to the group of little children waving the banner.

The examination is over. Weather one makes it into the academy is all up to the judges. As Shogo retreats to the stands, his was happily greeted by the ‘mini gang’ of children. “You did it! You did it! You did it! Now you can go get big bro back!” yell one of the shorties. Shogo just kept his sleepy smile as his is dragged towards the exit by the little delinquents.

“Wait…” a voice called out. Everyone stopped as they turned to see who it was; walking as he reached out his hand to the sleepy duelist, it was Jinsei. “Your name … Shogo was it?” he asked.

“Good duel…” Shogo praised as he shakes the hand of his opponent.

“You too…you have my commendation to enter Ra-yellow…but, at least tell me two things…” Jinsei stated as he slowly sits down on the bench.

Shogo’s expression suddenly turned dark and ominous as his glared at Jinsei for staring at his face, “Don’t you dare ask weather if I’m a girl…I have had it up to here about my face and build!” he said shaking fist angrily, trying hard to remain clam. The children around him on the other hand, started smiling cynically for they knew what he was talking about.

Giggling but not laughing Jinsei shook his head, “No, no, no, just … why insist on going to Ra-yellow and not Obelisk-blue?”

“I have someone to meet there the … ahhh” Shogo yawn tiresomely, it is like he could barely keep his eyes open. “Yeah … big bro, big bro!” one of the children sang while eyeing Jinsei.

“Second, why are you eyes red? Are they some kind of trade mark of you using your Red-Eyes Black Dragon like your alias?” Jinsei asked as he tries to have one more glance at the blood red eyes that scared him during the duel.

“Nope…the alias and my eyes are ‘red’ is because I always rubbed them too hard … because I am always sleepy.” Sadly the last reply from Shogo left Jinsei stoned like a dummy as the speaker announces the next duel for the selected field… “Attendee number 110, Yuki Judai, please report to arena for your admittance test.”

-----

P.S. ;

Like what it is written in the end…this duel is actually held before Yuki Judai was at the arena or even any characters from the animation / manga for that matter. Preferably before Misawa Daichi’s duel, because many of characters came on that day was to watch him duel for his excellence.
