Chapter Two: The Miko’s Back in Town

Inuyasha lifted his face into the oncoming wind and smiled a private smile as his nose picked up the familiar sent of the young miko from the future.

Songo, Miroku and Shippo all noticed the hanyou’s sudden change in demeanor as his mood immediately changed from sulking to happiness and all knew instinctively that Kagome must be back from her own time.

Suddenly Inuyasha turned to his friends and travel companions and opened his mouth. The three waited expectantly for him to inform them that Kagome was back, however they weren’t expecting the hard rock melody that spilled from his lips to accompany the hard guitar that had begun playing moments earlier.

Inuyasha’s eyes lit up as he sang,

Guess who just got back today?

That wild-eyed girl that has been away,

She hasn’t changed she’ll have much to say,

But man, I still think that chick is crazy!’

Songo looked at Inuyasha with such an odd expression that Shippo couldn’t help but giggle. Miroku could only smile like a mad man as they all ran toward the well, Inuyasha in the lead.

Kagome pulled herself out of the well shaking her head as she thought about what had just happened back at the shrine.

As she looked up over the horizon Kagome couldn’t help but notice her friends running towards her, and the music they brought with them.

Inuyasha skidded to a stop in front of her, followed closely by Miroku, Songo and Shippo. They all looked at her, shocked by what she was wearing.

Miroku was the first to come back to his senses and held up his hand in greeting and opened his mouth to welcome Kagome back but instead of the words he intended to say, he too began to sing.

Kouga was asking if you were around,

How you was, where you could be found,

Inu told him you were back at home again,

Driving him crazy as always’

Shippo jumped up from the earth and into Kagome’s arms as he took the next part of the song.

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

I said,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,’

Kagome couldn’t help but giggle at the small kit in her arms as the group started their walk back to the village. On their way back Songo pulled Kagome and Shippo, as he was still in Kagome’s arms, aside to fill her in further on Kouga’s visit,

You know that wolf that used to run a lot,

Every day he was down here showing off what he’s got,

Man when I tell you Inu was pissed, he was red hot,

I mean he was steaming’

Inuyasha popped back up, slightly upset that what had started off as his big solo was now being shared by everyone.

And that time over at Kaede’s hut,

Well Songo got up and slapped Miroku’s face,

Man we just fell about the place,

If he wanted to be a letch forget him.’

Miroku glared at the hanyou he considered to be his best friend and joined Inuyasha, Songo and Shippo in the chorus.

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

I said,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,’

Ginta and Hakkaku sat behind their bush and looked at each other as they saw Kagome, Inuyasha and the rest of the group heading back toward the village, singing. Or they had been a second ago, right now only music was playing

“What do you think they’re up to Ginta?” Hakkaku asked his best friend.

“I don’t know,” Ginta replied as they looked back at the approaching Hanyou. “We should go tell Kouga that Kagome is back.”

Ginta and Hakkaku looked at each other once again and popped out of the bush as Inu and group got closer to their hiding spot.

Spread the word around,

Guess who’s back in town,’

The group watched in slight amusement as Kouga’s two lackeys ran off to tell their boss that Kagome had returned.

You spread the word around.’

Kaede stood in the doorway of her hut and set her only eye’s gaze on the group of travelers that she now held as dear to her heart as she would her own grandchildren hade she ever had any children of her own.

Kaede couldn’t help but smile as she watched the group return to the village while still immersed in their song. It was times like these when she could forget that they would be leaving by that time the next day and head out to save the world from the evil demon Naraku.

By tomorrow they’ll be dressed to kill,

Down at Naraku’s secret castle,

Miasma will flow and blood will spill,

And if Inu wants to fight you’d better let him,’

Kaede smiled once more as she though of the stubborn Hanyou that had once loved her sister.

The demons will start blasting out their favorite attacks,

Now that Kagome’s back it won’t be long,

Won’t be long till the demons come,

Now that the Miko is here again.’

Inuyasha smiled happily as he grabbed Kagome by the waist and pulled her closer to his body and tossed Shippo over on to Kirara’s back.

Kagome instinctively wrapped her arms around Inuyasha just as he launched himself up into the air, with Kagome still in hand, and forward away from the rest of the group.

Back on the ground the rest of the gang continued to belt out the chorus.

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,’

Inuyasha lowered his mouth to Kagome’s ear, and quietly whispered the next line to her just as they landed.

Spread the word around,’

The gang moved quickly to catch up and sang out once again,

The Miko’s back in town,

The Miko’s back in town,’

Giddy with excitement about his adoptive mother being back again Shippo sung out with his small, but powerful, voice,

The Miko’s back, the Miko’s back!’

Kagome couldn’t help but smile at the young kit as she untangled herself from Inuyasha and picked him up once again. Shippo beamed up at her happily and Kagome rewarded the kit with a soft kiss to his temple.

Miroku, feeling left out, found his hand slowly reaching out towards Songo. Well more pointedly, Songo’s ass.

“Henti!” She screamed out when she felt what the monk was doing, then proceeded to slap him upside the head.

Shippo shook his head at the idiot monk and Kagome giggled, while Inuyasha just rolled his eyes ad turned his back on his friends.

Kagome sobered up and reached out to touch Inuyasha’s shoulder.

Inuyasha turned back towards her and graced Kagome with one of his trade mark smirks.

The Miko’s back in town again,’

Been hangin’ down at Kaede’s,’

Inuyasha once more found himself pulling Kagome closer to himself.

Shippo scampered out of Kagome’s arms, not wishing to be thrown again.

Once more the gang took up the slack that Inuyasha’s actions had left and sang out the last line.

The Miko’s back in town again!’

As the music started to fade Inuyasha found his face lowering down to Kagome’s. Their lips were but millimeters apart as the last note ended and the music’s influence creased.

Inuyasha yanked his head back quickly enough to give himself whiplash and released Kagome as if she was to hot to touch. His gaze darted around frantically before he leapt backwards, turned and ran off into the forest.

Sweet looked around his surroundings. Lush green forestry grew around him everywhere and the auras of many long thought extinct demon’s assaulted Sweet’s senses. In the confusion he found himself quoting that famous line from ‘The Wizard of Oz’, “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”

Well here it is people, chapter two. Please don’t forget to review!
