Gabriella was walking down the hallways, clutching her History book and binder to her chest, staring at her shoes. I wonder if my shoes are red or crimson. Suddenly, a large 'thing' bumped into her, sending her falling back onto the floor. She managed to get up right away, so she grabbed her book and binder and stood up.
"I'm so sorry, Gabriella," a voice said, Gabriella recognizing it as Troy. She wiped some dust off of her dark denim mini-skirt (she had a pair of booty shorts underneath) and looked up, catching his crystal blue eyes first glance. She smiled and moved the strap of a large bag to her shoulder, then saying "Don't worry about it." She started walking when Troy followed her, grabbing onto her arm. She shivered, memories flowing into her head. She turned to her left and saw Troy. He smiled at her. "My next class is on the way, so I'll walk with you." She replied with the usual 'okay' and kept walking. She decided to strike up a conversation. "What class do you have now?"
"I have History with Mendell. How about you," he asked her. He knew what class she had next, but didn't want to seem like a stalker. Plus, he didn't want to walk across the whole campus with nothing to talk about. "I have History with Walker. She's such a pain in the ass." Troy smirked, since ever since he got to know Gabriella, he always thought it was funny that little miss innocent had a potty-mouth. "Like, one person says that he didn't do his work, so she assigns a major quiz the next day. Then, not only is she a bad teacher, but she goes on and on about how she knows someone that did this, and someone that knew him or her or whatever. She gets so off-topic. But since everyone knows the subject, no one is failing, so everyone thinks she's some great teacher," Gabriella finished, giving an sarcastic and irritated voice when she said great teacher. Troy just let out a little laugh. He knew that once you get Gabriella started on something, such as saying things about someone, it takes a while or an irritated person to stop her. "So, Achilles, what's up with your life?" Troy just laughed as Gabriella smiled, looking up at him. Troy loved the nicknames. She came up with the most random and weirdest ones. She got his because of the movie Troy, the main, strong, blonde, character's name. She called Taylor "Chuck" because of the convere shoes, or Chuck Taylor's. She called Chad "Scuttle" because Chad's name reminded her of the actor Chad Michael Murray, who played one of her favorite shows, Gilmore Girls, as Tristan, and the name Tristans reminds her of King Triton, who's from The Little Mermaid, and she thinks Chad acts most like Scuttle the seagull. She calls Sharpay "Regina" because she's most like her in Mean Girls. She calls Ryan "Holden" because Rye can be short for Ryan, and Rye reminds her of Catcher in the Rye, and the main character is Holden (I've never read the book so sorry if he's not the main character). She calls Zeke "Pitbull" because his and his girlfriend (Sharpay)'s name can be formed into Shake, which is a song by the Ying Yang Twins and Pitbull. She calls Kelsi "Mad Hatter" or "Dr. Seuss" when she's writing; Mad Hatter because of her hat and the character in Alice in Wonderland, and Dr. Seuss because of his famous rhyme "A Cat in the Hat", Hat being key word.
"So, Gabi," Troy started, being interrupted by Gabriella. "Please don't call me Gabi," she asked him, her voice sounding far. "Okay. Sorry," Troy said, raising his hands up in surrender, but not jokingly. "It's fine. You didn't know," Gabriella said softly. "I'll see you at lunch. Front steps?" Troy nodded. "Okay, bye." She walked into her classroom and Troy walked a few rooms down to his. He wondered what made Gabriella go sad because of the nickname.
Lunch time! Time to eat food!
Gabriella walked to the front steps and noticed no one had arrived yet. No surprise to her. Her classroom and locker were the closest, so she was always first. Her 4th period was Algebra 2, so she had to put her books away, seeing as she had P.E. for 5th period, and on her way from P.E. toChem was her locker, so it all worked out. She sat on the 3rd step and pulled her bag beside her. She pushed her books, pencils, pens, erasers, make-up case, and hair case aside to grab her lunch. She pulled out a large bag of Hot Cheetos and a bottle of Dasani. She pulled out a Ziploc bag with a half of a lime and pulled it out, squeezing it inside the now opened bag. She closed the bag and started to shake it before adding the last squeeze. Real lime on it tasted much more better than the ones they sell. She grabbed out a chip and sticked it in her mouth. Mmm. Perfect. She grabbed a few more before clapping her hands together to get rid of the crumbs. She checked her red long Vintage t-shirt from Forever 21 to make sure no crumbs were on it. She grabbed her water and took a small sip. She was about to grab another one when a pair of warms hands covered her eyes, with the famous quotes coming after.
"Guess Who?" She decided to play dumb, as everyone does.
"Umm...Dumbo?" Troy let go so she could face him. "And I was right." She laughed as it took Troy a minute to understand.
"Shush you little girl," Troy said playfully, moving his index finger as if trying to tell a child it's a bad thing. "That's a no-no," he said, repeating "no-no" three times.
"Funny. Dude, you'll never guess what," she said seriously.
"What?" Troy asked, imitating a prep with the hand sticking in the air. Gabriella slapped him on the arm playfully and went on.
"Chad and Angela are going out. He told me in 2nd." Angela was the girl Chad had been crushing on since the beginning of the year. Taylor and Chad had dated for 5 months, then Taylor broke up with him. She's now dating a guy named Marvin who goes to an all-boys private school nearby.
"Really," Troy asked. They had only been on 1 date and that was on the weekend. He didn't know that he'd be dating her that fast.
"Yeah, he was bragging about it during English." Gabriella was about to grab another Cheeto when Troy snatched the bag and walked to the other steps.
"Give it back." Gabriella kept yelling until she finally took off her flip flops and started to chase after Troy. They were running on the grass when she leaped onto him, falling and bringing Troy with her. They were on the grass laughing when she saw the Cheetos, closed and on the grass.
"Thank goodness the Cheetos didn't fall out." Troy laughed at her and her 'worries'.
"All you care about are the cheetos?" She smiled and nodded furiously. She stood up and grabbed the Cheetos. She opened the bag and started eating the Cheetos while walking barefoot on the grass to the steps.
"Don't trip," Troy called out, causing Gabriella to look back and smirk. She turned back and started walking and stumbled over her foot, almost falling. She heard Troy laughing in the background as she looked at the ground. A Cheeto had fallend. She gasped and looked at him. He looked confused, as usual. She closed the bag and put it on the step, then grabbed the cheeto on the ground and walked towards Troy. She threw it at him and he had this amazed, yet shocked look on his face. She stuck her tongue out and started to walk back fastly to the steps. She heard him stumble to get up and she looked back, seeing him kick his feet back like a bull. She moved her hands out far as to say "Bring it", then she mouthed "Bring it". He smiled and ran towards her. She turned around and ran on the grass, knowing that Troy would bring her down, and she would rather have him tackle her on the grass then on the cold cement. Thank goodness for nice days like this. She started running around and squealing until Troy brought her down.
They laughed and looked up when they heard people talking. It was Sharpay and Chad, Ryan and Taylor, and Kelsi and Zeke. Sharpay and Chad were arguing over cheerleading, if it is a sport or not. Sharpay had recently tried out for the cheerleading squad (haha, funny word...squad...haha) and had made the team. Ryan and Taylor were arguing over math. Taylor was trying to explain to him FOIL, a pre-alegebra method, seeing as he is only in Algebra .5B. She was explaining it to him and he always questioned her with "Why?" She was getting frustrated. And Kelsi and Zeke were planning to throw a party in honor of their birthdays, which are only 2 days apart, next week. Kelsi was talking about the music and Zeke was talking about the food and drinks.
They all stopped when they noticed that Troy and Gabriella were laying on the grass, Gabriella on top of Troy. She had no shoes on and the sight seemed very different from their POV. The two immediately laughed as they saw their friends facial expressions. Their look made them seem as though they thought something bad happened.
The two got up slowly and Gabriella checked her skirt for grass stains. She was in awe. How could she practically be rolling around in the grass and have no grass stains? Whatever it was, she was grateful. She looked at Troy's expression said "What?" in a confused way. She laughed and walked back to the steps. She sat down on the one with her bag and shoes and looked at her new Sidekick III (It hasn't come out yet, but it wil), and it read 12:34. It had only been 5 minutes since lunch started. She laughed and took out another cheeto.
"Gabriella, what happened?" Taylor asked, motining to Gabriella's messy hair. Gabriella laughed silently and pulled out her brush. She brushed her hair while answering Taylor. "Long story." She put her hair up in a high ponytail and put the brush away and looked at her feet. They had some grass on it. She walked around on the cement and soon enough, they were off. She put on her shoes and walked back to the steps. Sharpay was laughing and looked at Gabriella.
"Gabi, what did you do in Dance today?" Sharpay had Dance class 5th period, while Gabriella had it 3rd.
"We learned a dance to Canned Heat. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me Gabi."
"Why not? I mean, you gave us all nicknames. Can't we give you a simple one. Or do you want to make one up for yourself?"
"I just don't like being called Gabi."
"How about Ella then."
"I don't like nicknames," Gabriella stated. "Not for me at least."
"Why? Is it so hard to be called Gabi," Sharpay said irritatedly.
"Yeah, it is." Gabriella was starting to get angry.
"Then we'll make up another nickname for you."
"NO! I don't want another nickname. I just like Gabriella," Gabriella said loudly.
"Tell me why."
"No. That's my personal business, not yours," Gabriella snapped. She turned around and faced the road.
"Tell me why or I'll find a way to get it out of you," Sharpay said. She was one to be nosy.
"Fine," Gabriella said, snapping her head back. "You want to know why? Because of my life."
"I don't get it."
"You never do, Sharpay." This shocked the whole group. Gabriella always called her Regina unless something struck a nerve.
Sharpay didn't like the name very much, but it was a meaningful connection. As if they'd known one another for their whole lives.
"Please, I really want to," Sharpay said calmly. She rested a hand on Gabriella's shoulder, indicating that she could trust her.
"Fine. I had a lot of things happen in my life. And the people that things happened to, they always had called me Gabi, or Ella, or another nickname. We were close. And now, they can't call me Gabi or Ella or anything else. So if they can't, no one can."
"What happened?"
"Everything."
"Like?"
"Life."
