He felt it. Her soul stayed with him. Maybe that's why he felt compelled to do what he was doing. He was making up for all the wrongs two souls could handle.

He tried to mail it back to her. With each gift, he tried to enclose a piece of her soul. He didn't think it was working.

So he tried to leave it behind. But he began to suspect it crawled into his suitcase when he wasn't looking.

He was pretty sure that was why he was still drawn to her. Her soul, trying to find its way back.
