Chapter 7: The Vengance Duel

Recap: Yami took on Raphael in a duel. When all hope was lost, Yami played the one card no one expected to: The Seal of Orichalcos! Now that he's lost Yugi, will he be able to come to terms with it and save Yugi? And will there be other consequences?

"Come on, Pharaoh. Let's get out of here." Joey said, appearing beside him.

Yami allowed them to get him to his feet and helped him back to the car. Copernicus followed behind. Yami looked distracted. "We'll get Yugi back." Tea assured him.

Yami didn't answer. He looked out the window, not making a noise until they got back to the motor home. As he was exiting the car, Yugi's cell phone rang. "Hello?" he asked, depressed.

"Yami!" Hailey exclaimed, excitedly. "How did the duel go?"

Yami took several minutes to answer. His heart had sunk at the sound of Hailey's voice. When he did, he said quietly, "I played the Seal of Orichalcos. He lost."

"What?" Hailey asked, not hearing him.

"I'm sorry Hailey, I-" Yami started, but Hailey interrupted him.

"No, no, Yami. I didn't hear what you had said." Hailey said. "Could you repeat it a little louder?"

"I'm sorry, Hailey. He's gone." Yami said heavily.

"What? No, he can't be. Put him on the line, please." Hailey said, obviously thinking Yami was mistaken.

"I can't, Hailey. I played the Seal of Orichalcos and lost. He was taken." Yami said, his heart sinking even more.

"He-he's gone?" Hailey asked, her squeaky voice telling him that she finally believed him.

"Yes. I'm so sorry. I'll get him back as soon as I can." Yami said.

Hailey hung up on him.

"Hey, what happened?" Joey asked, as Yami hung up, giving a depressed sigh.

"She hung up on me. I'm going to go outside. I'll be back." Yami said, and headed outside.

Hailey exited the house quickly without thinking. Hali appeared beside her. What's wrong? She asked, concerned.

Your baka Pharaoh just lost Yugi! Hailey snapped, storming on.

What? But how? Hali asked.

He played the Seal of Orichalcos and lost! Hailey practically shrieked.

Hali disappeared as they heard someone coming their way. "Who's there?" Hailey called.

The noise turned out to be just a cat prowling for food. Hailey sighed and sat against a wall, knees drawn to her chest. She began crying softly.

There was a low grunt and someone sat beside here. "Why is such a beautiful lady like you sitting here, crying?" A deep voice asked.

"Huh?" Hailey asked, looking up. She spotted a blond burly man sitting next to her. She wiped her tears away, embarrassed. "It's nothing, sir."

"Call me Raphael." The man said, holding out a large hand.

Hailey took his hand and shook it. "Hailey." She said.

"It fits." Raphael said. "So tell me; why were you crying?"

"You know Yugi Mutou?" Hailey asked.

"Yes." Raphael answered.

"Well, he's my boyfriend and I just lost him." Hailey said, tearfully.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Raphael said, apologetically.

"It's all that Pharaoh's fault!" Hailey burst out angrily.

Raphael's eyes widened. "What happened?" he pressed on.

"He dueled someone and lost." Hailey said. "And the price was my Yugi's soul."

"Do you want revenge on him?" Raphael asked.

"I want to make him pay for it." Hailey growled.

"I'm in a bike gang who are set to saving the world. I think we might have something that might help you. Are you interested?" Raphael said.

"Will it help me get Yugi back?" Hailey asked.

"Yes, if you succeed you will be rewarded by my master." Raphael lied.

"I'll do it." Hailey said, standing up. "Where do we go to see your master?"

Raphael stood as well. "We can get there on my bike. It's just around the corner."

"Lead the way." Hailey said.

Raphael led her to his bike and handed her a helmet. "Put it on. I want you to be safe." He said, getting on at the front.

Hailey nervously put the helmet on and got on, holding Raphael around the middle.

"Ready?" Raphael asked.

"Yes." Hailey answered.

Raphael started the motor and sped off, with Hailey clinging on.

Raphael put on the breaks minutes later, in front of a large building. "We're here." He said.

Hailey looked up. "This is it?" she asked.

"Master Dartz is inside. Follow me, and stay close." Raphael answered.

Hailey followed Raphael upstairs to a large boardroom where the chair at the head of the table was facing with its back to them. "Master Dartz?" Raphael asked.

"Yes, Raphael?" a thick accent asked from within the chair as it swiveled around to face them.

Hailey gave a gasp as she realized that the man in the chair had long pale teal hair, pulled back into a ponytail and one aqua eye and one amber eye. He was dressed in a sharp, white suit.

"I have a possible new recruit, Master Dartz." Raphael said, gesturing to Hailey.

Dartz got up and walked over to Hailey. "My child, do not be afraid. I will solve all of your problems. You want revenge on the Pharaoh, do you not?"

"Yes, but how-?" Hailey started, but Dartz moved away from her toward another door.

"Come with me, my child." Dartz said, motioning her to follow him. They entered another, more secluded room, lit only by torches in brackets. Dartz held out a hand, which held a glowing green stone. "This is the power you seek. If you are worthy of possessing it, you will be able to remove it from my hand. Do you take the challenge?"

"Yes, I'll do anything to get revenge on the Pharaoh." Hailey pleaded. She reached for the glowing stone and struggled at first, but her hand finally closed around the stone. "Yes, I did it!"

"Welcome, the power is now yours." Dartz said, handing her a Duel Monsters card. The Seal of Orichalcos symbol appeared momentarily on her forehead before disappearing. "Now, I have a large collection of cards for you to make a new deck. Right this way, Hailey."

Hailey followed him into another room, which had shelves upon shelves of cards. "You may have any card in here, except the Egyptian Gods."

Hailey picked out her cards and left.

Yami and the others arrived the next night at the Reynolds ranch. "I hope we didn't get here too late." Tea said, glancing out the window at the dark ones of the house.

They all stepped out of the car and went to the front door. "Yami, the note's for you." Joey said, handing the note that had been taped to the door:

Pharaoh-

I would like to have a chat with you in the back yard. Bring your duel disk and cards with you. And don't bring the cheerleading squad.

Yours,

Hailey

"What does she mean by cheerleading squad?" Joey asked, slightly offended.

"She wants me to go alone." Yami said. "Stay here."

"And let you go into a trap?" Tristan asked. "No, we're going too."

Yami led the way to the back yard. Hailey was standing on the patio, her hair dyed black, a black tank top under a short-sleeved black fishnet shirt, black, spiked belt, a pair of black jeans, and black boots. She had on black fingerless gloves though the left one was covered by a green duel disk.

"Hello, Pharaoh." Hailey sneered. "Glad you could make it."

"Hailey?" Yami asked, astonished.

"Yes, but not the wimpy, pathetic one you knew. She's long gone. Like you will be once I take away your soul!" Hailey growled, activating her duel disk.

I must save her. Yami said. I owe it to Yugi.

Yami activated his duel disk. "You've got a duel. You go first."

"My pleasure." Hailey said. She drew her six cards. "I set two cards face down and a monster in defense. Your turn."

"All right." Yami said. He drew a card. "I'll set one card face down and I'll summon Alpha the Magnet Warrior. Alpha, attack her face down monster!"

Hailey smirked as a woman appeared and grabbed Alpha. "Sorry, but my Grave keeper's Spy has more than enough defense points to stop your attack."

Yami grimaced as his life points dropped to 3400. "Due to her effect, I can summon my other Grave keeper's Spy." Hailey said, searching her deck. She then summoned an identical woman in defense mode.

"I set two more cards face down and end my turn." Yami said.

"My turn." Hailey said. She drew a card. "I sacrifice one Grave keeper's Spy to summon Mobius the Frost Monarch. When it's summoned, I can destroy up to two spell or trap cards on the field. The left and middle one."

Yami grimaced as his two traps were destroyed. Come on, attack Alpha. He thought.

"Now, Moby's, attack Alpha!" Hailey ordered.

"I activate Mirror Force." Yami shouted.

"Fuck!" Hailey screeched in anger as Mobius was destroyed.

Yami looked taken aback. "Hailey, you hate cussing!"

"Like I said before, the old Hailey is long gone, Pharaoh. I end. But don't worry, you'll be joining Yugi shortly."

Yami drew a card. "I tribute Alpha from my field and Beta and Gamma from my hand to summon Valkyrion the Magna Warrior. Attack her Gravekeeper!"

"I activate my trap card, Sakuretsu Armor! Here's how it works, Pharaoh. It's simple enough for even your miniscule brain to comprehend. When you declare an attack, I can activate this trap. It negates your attack and destroys your monster. So say audios to your Magna Warrior. It just got booked for a one-way trip to the graveyard."

"I set another card face down and end my turn." Yam said.

"Good. It's my turn." Hailey said, drawing her card. She smirked. "This will seal your fate, Pharaoh."

Don't play it! Hali insisted, grabbing Hailey's arm.

"Let go, Hali!" Hailey snapped, and pulled away. The field spell slot opened and she held it up.

"Don't play it, Hailey!" Yami cried, realizing what was going on. But it was too late, Hailey played the Seal of Orichalcos. She screamed as the ring formed and expanded, surrounding them. "Hailey?" Yami asked nervously.

Hailey looked up. There was a red gleam in her eyes and the Seal was on her forehead. "Ah, that's better. You're going down, bastard Pharaoh!"

"Yami's eyes widened. "Hailey, that card is controlling your mind!" he shouted.

"No, it's opened my eyes to how evil you are! How could you let Yugi go?" Hailey snapped.

"He let himself get taken instead of me!" Yami insisted. "He pushed me out of the way!"

"Bullshit!" Hailey screeched. "Why would he save a worthless human like you?"

"Hailey, just take your turn." Yami snapped, getting annoyed.

"Oh, eager to lose?" Hailey asked. "I set one card face down and I sacrifice my Gravekeeper's Spy for Dark Magician Girl! Attack him directly!"

"Activate Magic Cylinder!" Yami shouted.

Hailey snarled as her life points dropped to 1500. "You make me sick, Pharaoh! I end my turn."

"I set one card face down and end my turn." Yami said.

"Dark Magician Girl, attack him directly!" Hailey shouted.

"I activate Divine Wind! This trap negates your attack and sends it right back with 500 less power. I'm sorry, but I have to do this, Hailey."

For once, during the entire duel, Hailey looked fearful. As the attack hit her, she whispered, "I'm sorry, Yami."

Hailey! Hali cried. She began pounding on the Seal with the cross. When it finally shattered, Hailey had been taken.

Hali fell to the ground, unconscious. Yami ran over and held her. "Hali, stay with me, please. I can't lose you too!"

Hali opened her eyes slowly. Tears welled in the dark green pools. "She's…gone…"

Yami held her close to him. "I know, Hali. I know."
