First time writing Demyx, so be kind with me. Partly the reason why this is more drabble than an actual fic, is that I need to practice Demyx's character. That, and another fic I'm working on is eating most of my creativity.

Endings

Demyx, when he wasn't trying to pick up remnants of songs long-forgotten, often asked questions.

When he asked Saïx what exactly Kingdom Hearts was, he was merely told that it was their goal and that he should follow more orders and ask less questions.

When he asked Axel if he remembered what having a heart was like, Axel only rolled his eyes before he returned to nagging Roxas if he wanted to hang out when the boy was finished with guard duty.

When he asked Larxene what feelings she could feel, she tartly replied that she was feeling increasingly volatile with each word he said, and he quickly left as the air around her started to crackle menacingly.

Demyx avoided questioning the higher six. They intimidated him, more so than Saïx and Larxene did on a regular basis. He had the horrible feeling that if he ever were to ask them something, he would receive a response that consisted of either an insult or condescending glare.

But one day, while he was fumbling with a tune on his sitar, Demyx found himself uncomfortably alone with Zexion in the main kitchens. His superior was seated calmly at the main table, holding a small mug of tea in his hands. Demyx was threatened by the mere presence of VI, even though all Zexion seemed focused on was the steam rising from his tea.

And before he could register the statement, the blond blurted out:

“Do you think we’ll ever get our happy ending?”

Zexion did not snap, roll his eyes, or threaten him. A single eye opened slowly to regard the musician, its counterpart hidden beneath Zexion’s slate-colored hair.

Zexion quietly replied, “We cannot have an ending if we were never supposed to begin.”
