Sora takes a moment to contemplate his footwear.

Fashion Statement

It seemed like a bit of a redundant question but Goofy asked it anyway, probably just because he wanted to hear something other than the lulling sound of the train rushing along the tracks. "Is something wrong Sora?"

The recently grown teenager, who was sitting opposite Goofy, stared at his bright yellow shoes with a puzzled yet contemplative look. "My boots…"

"Ye-es?" Goofy patiently prodded.

"There's something different…" Sora pulled one off and held it up, turning it around. "I can't figure out what it is."

"Well…" But Donald trailed off, deciding it was time Sora learnt to notice these things on his own.

Sora put his boot back on and stood up, walking a few paces along the train. Nope, they still fitted perfectly…

Perfectly?

But that wasn't right! Before, he'd always had to take extra big steps so he didn't trip himself up. Now walking was a lot easier. And the boots had always slipped up and down a little when he had walked or run. But now, they fitted perfectly and that was simply not right. He'd spent most of his life in massively oversized shoes, ever since his mother had (not always successfully) knitted baby booties when he had been born. He recalled the few family photos they had at home, his adorably tiny feet always clad in booties that were too big. His mother hadn't been born with a knack for knitting but her excuse, so Sora had been told, was that she knitted the things too big so that he could grow into them. Of course he was never given the chance to grow into things, because his mom would get bored and make new booties. The cycle of new, too-large footwear for Sora continued on and on…

So, forced to wear boots that fitted him perfectly was, to Sora, a momentous part of his rise to adulthood. He'd finally grown into something! "They fit," he finally said aloud, looking a little glum. "I grew into my boots."

Donald couldn't quite stifle his laughter. "That's what you're supposed to do."

"But it makes me look weird!"

Donald decided not to mention the kind of first impression Sora and his giant boots had given when he had been shorter, or the impressions he must have made on the people in Twilight Town as he strolled around in his outgrown clothes.

"Everything is too small," Sora grumbled, trying to pull his red overalls back down to where they used to hang by his knees.

"But I thought you said your boots fitted you properly now," Goofy pointed out.

"Sure. But they're not supposed to."

"Why?" Donald, Goofy and even Jiminy had to ask.

Sora grinned. "Because it's not my style."
