I thought about it for a while, then decided to find her, Alyssa, my first love. I looked through the phonebook and finally found her. Alyssa Hue. Looking at her name, I realized how much I had missed her over the years. She had been so important to me. I had to talk to her, see if she and I could be friends again. I wrote down her address and left, deciding to walk instead of fly.
I hesitated before knocking on her door. What if she was still afraid of me? I had to try though, so I closed my eyes, lifted my hand, and knocked. It was a moment before the door opened slightly. But when it did, I saw her bright blue eyes, and I saw the smile grow on her face as the door opened all the way. “Warren. How are you?”
“Not too bad. And you?”
“Same. Come in, please.” I entered and we sat down in the living room. “So…I saw the feather you dropped in front of me.”
“You know it was from me?”
“I figured. It was too big to be from a bird, and when I looked up, I saw you. Made me smile, remembering the old days.”
“Yeah, me too. Does it still scare you? The wings?”
She looked away from, letting her dark hair fall in front of her face a little. “No, mostly because I have a power too.” Her eyes found mine again. I was surprised, but happy at the same time. “I’ve thought about calling you so many times to talk about this, but I’ve never had the guts to do it.”
“What’s your power?”
“Persuasion. I can manipulate people to do what I want them to do. I try not to use it. To be honest, it kind of scares me.”
“I can understand why.”
There was a pause before she spoke again. “Warren, can I ask you something? Can I see your wings again? I don’t think it’ll be as…strange this time, since I’m different now too. Please?”
I nodded as I stood up to take my shirt off and show her my wings. As they unfurled, Alyssa smiled. She stood and came over to me. “They’re beautiful. I’m sorry about what happened years ago. I should have been more understanding.”
“It’s ok. I understand why you reacted that way.”
“Can we be friends again?”
I smiled. “I would like that, Alyssa.” I pulled my wings back as I said, “Let me give you my address and stuff.” I write it all down for her before I leave. As I leave, she asks me one last question. “Have you found anyone else?”
“There’s one, but we’re not really together yet. Hopefully, though. How about you?”
“A couple over the years, but nothing serious yet. Good luck.”
“You, too. I’ll see you later, Alyssa.”
“Bye, Warren.”
A few weeks after I saw Alyssa, I picked up the newspaper and saw that a woman had been kidnapped. Her name was Alyssa Hue.
I thought of only one person who would take her. Magneto.
