Recap: When he had been marooned on that god-forsaken spit of land, he had forgotten what it was like to have real friends. Now he remembered.
Will sat in a chair while Elizabeth stared out the window. They had been very happily married for a few months, but he couldn't help but notice that Elizabeth seemed lonely. Not lonely, exactly, but like part of her was missing being at Port Royal. He wouldn't admit it, but he felt the same way.
He walked up to her, put his arms around her waist, and whispered in her ear, "All you ever really wanted is freedom."
"And you."
"Well, besides me," He kissed her cheek softly.
"Yes."
"I've got an idea..."
With her father's consent, Will put his plan into action. She was an adult now, legally married. Much as it pained him, Weatherby Swann decided it was time to let her go. She reminded him so much of her mother – free spirited, strong willed, and brave. If it would make her happy, he would let her leave.
But she wasn't going just anywhere...
"Welcome to the official crew of the Black Pearl," Jack said, flailing his arms about as he guzzled his bottle of rum. He flashed a grin revealing gold-edged teeth, back to his old habits, the same as he was before, but for two beads, a hat, a skull and crossbone ring, and a mind knowing he was a good man.
Will and Elizabeth were about to board the Black Pearl when a figure emerged from the shadows.
"Commodore!" Elizabeth said. "You came."
He smiled tenderly. "How could I not?"
Elizabeth looked down and said, "James, I –"
He forced her gaze to him with a hand under her chin. "If it's what you want." They both knew he didn't want her at sea where it wasn't as safe. He kissed her forehead – gentle, long, and sweet.
Just before they left, he turned to Will Turner and Jack Sparrow and said, "Take care of her." After saying this he walked back a bit and watched them sail away.
She looked back at the commodore one last time before taking Will's hand and walking onto the ship to join the rest of the crew. Once she got there, she ran her hands over the smooth railings, relishing the feeling of being back in the only place she ever really belonged.
Elizabeth sighed merrily as she stared at a shrinking Port Royal. "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me..."
AN: Well, that's it then! A Pirate's Life for Me is officially done. It's still not perfect though, so I'll be going back through, fixing typos and such. I want to thank everyone who reviewed, particularly those who stuck with me from the beginning. This is my most successful story so far (INSANELY long for me) and I look forward to writing more. Thanks so much for reading, love ya! Tigerlily
