Monster-Part 2
Okay, things get angsty and much more serious in this chapter, and those to come. And if I do kill off a character, that doesn't mean I don't love them! Big thanks to shirik, who reviewed both of my LOST stories, and Pyroheart101. Thank you both so much! If you're interested, wink, I have a lot more LOST stories coming! Full of Sawyer love, angst, and romance!
Sawyer sat back against the nearest tree trunk, taking a drag from his cigarette. He had his hurt leg flat on the ground, with his other knee drawn to his chest. He let the smoke drift above him, not listening much to the chatter of the other survivors around him. The fire flickered over him and some of the other guys as they discussed what they had seen in the forest.
"What the hell was that thing?" Boone was whispering with Michael and Sayid, while others just stared into the fire.
"Was that the monster!" Boone bit his lip, shrugging in response.
Charlie shook his head, playing with the pieces of tape around his fingers. "Nah. The monster we saw in the cockpit took him right out from above us, and we were well off the bloody ground!"
Sayid rubbed his chin, like a detective trying to solve a mystery. "Maybe not. But it could be the thing that keeps dragging people down holes, and what's tearing down the trees at night."
Sawyer tilted his head to one side, deciding whether or not to tell them what he thought. Giving up arguing with himself, Sawyer said casually, "You're gonna think I'm crazy, but that thing looked familiar."
Everyone's eyebrows shot up, while Jack started to chuckle. Sawyer sent him a death glare, the memory of Jack fixing up his leg a few minutes ago fresh in his mind.
Sawyer hissed in pain as Jack dabbed something on his leg. "Ouch, take it easy, Doc!"
"You big baby!" Jack said, trying to keep a straight face as he teased the 'tough guy'.
"That fucking hurt! Give me that, and I'll show you how much it hurts!"
Jack shook his head, dusting off his hands and plopping down next to Hurley. "You always make such a fuss over everything, Sawyer. It's not the end of the world, calm down. You act like you're going to die."
Sawyer ripped out a cigarette angrily, and hissed viciously, "You'd like that, wouldn't you?" It had a lot of deeper meaning then just the rival between the two. It stood for the fight between them for Kate, too.
Jack rolled his eyes and muttered to Locke, "Yeah, do us all a favor." (AN: He is not asking Locke to get rid of Sawyer, he's still talking to and about Sawyer. Didn't want ANY confusion!)
Instantly, the light hearted talk around the campfire died down, and Jack knew that was the wrong thing to say. Sawyer was staring at him as if it wasn't for his leg, he would have gotten up and beat him to death. Jack cleared his throat uncomfortably, and tried to change the topic. The talk slowly started up again, but Sawyer stayed quiet and sullen.
Michael saw how the situation might turn ugly knowing Sawyer, so he quickly intervened. "What?"
"I knew you'd think I was off my rocker!" Sawyer said passionately, crossing his arms, and turning his head to stare out to the sea. Then he looked back at Michael.
Michael sighed, biting his lip to keep his eyes from rolling good naturedly. "We don't think you're crazy."
Sawyer sniffed, pretending to be offended. He had started becoming a little playful with the guys (all except Jack, of course). Shrugging, he tried to brush it off. He couldn't place it, and he racked his brain of where he had seen it. "It looked like... a graboid."
"A what?" Sayid asked, confusion and a bit of amusement taking over his voice.
"A Graboid...Tremors?" When all he got was silence, Sawyer threw his arms up in surrender. "Oh, come on! None of you have seen 'Tremors'! Ya know, with Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntire!" Everyone shook their heads. Sawyer ran a shaking hand through his blonde locks exasperatedly. "Where've you guys been living! A rock?"
"Well, if you haven't noticed..." Jack started, trying very hard not to smile. Sawyer threw him a look that made the whole campfire crowd quiet down, seeing that he was now deadly serious and ready to fight.
"You think this is funny, Jackass?" When Jack was about to open his mouth, Sawyer just held up a hand. "No, don't answer that. If you guys don't appreciate me, or take me serious, when all I'm trying to do is help you for once, fine!" He stood up, trying not to wince at the pain that radiated up his leg. He started to hobble away, towards his tent on the edge of the other survivors' tents, when Michael, Sayid, and Hurley tried to calm him down and make him sit back down.
He gave in, sitting down next to them and as far away as Jack as he could. Jack rolled his eyes, and said in a low voice, "Man, you got PMS worse than a girl!"
Locke turned to him, whispering in the same low voice, "Is something wrong, Jack? You've been pushing Sawyer's buttons since we made the fire, and that's not usually like you. Do you want to be beaten to a pulp?" Jack shrugged, sulking back.
"Okay, so you recognize that thing. What do we do? How do we kill it?" Sayid asked, always ready to protect the camp.
"Okay...um..." Sawyer tried to think, but he hadn't seen those movies in a long time. He had been a kid, more immersed in the visual affects and the girl sitting next to him than in the plot. Yeah, he said he loved it, and he had. What he had heard and understood was good, and that's when Belle, the prettiest girl in his class, had kissed him. That movie brought back some good memories, but could he remember the actual plot!
"What, you don't know!" Jack asked, a bit condescending. When the others gave him dirty looks, he innocently shrugged, saying, "What! I'm just asking a question!"
"No, I remember! Just not too well. Give me a break, it was 13 years ago!" Sawyer bit his lip, watching the others give him unsure glances. Sawyer snapped his fingers, a slow smile drifting on his face and showing off his dimples.
He turned his head to the other fires scattered around the beach. "Hey, Freckles!"
Kate looked up, and nearly jogged to the fire. She had been shunned from the guy group, saying that they were having 'guy time', and the girls were having 'girl time'. Kate always liked hanging out with guys more than girls, though. "What?"
"Can you please, pretty please, bring me my green suitcase? I'd get it, but my leg and all." Sawyer gave her puppy dog eyes and stuck out his lip, silently pleading her. She grumbled, tearing off to his tent. The others around the fire gave Sawyer a quizzical look, which he answered, "Just hold on; wait."
Kate came back, hauling the heavy suitcase with both hands. "What the hell do you have in here, Sawyer? Bricks!"
Sawyer chuckled, then snapped the clips, opening it up. Everyone craned to see what was in it, and was slightly disappointed that is was full of books. "Thanks, Freckles. You're a doll." Kate nodded, then sat down next to him. "I'm up, might as well see what it's all about. Anyway, I lugged it all the way here!"
Sawyer found the orange book he had been about to read before. He flipped open the book, eagerly looking for some answers.
"Son of a bitch!" Water had found its way inside, and the writing was unreadable. The black ink smeared across the soaked and crinkled pages, leaving not a word legible.
"Dammit!" Sawyer threw the book in the fire in frustration, cursing everything he could think of. The ocean, Jack, the island, Jack, the others, Jack, the monster, Jack, the book, and a lot more Jack.
"Um...I remember something!" Sawyer started, but was interrupted by a familiar rumbling deep in the jungle, and the familiar crash of trees heading straight for them.
Hey guys. MUAHAHA! A cliffhanger! Don't worry; our favorite conman will save them! I'm sorry about Jack, I know he is out of character, but I don't like him, and I love making him the bad guy. Not 'Sawyer-kind-of-bad-guy' but just an ass. I'm so sorry about the lack of skate, but I'll make up for it. I promise, since you know I don't like Jack, it will definitely not be Jate! This story is more about the plot, than romance, but both will be there!
I'm working on some song-fics (No-they're good!) with Gary Allan songs, but they won't come out right. I have so many ideas for LOST fics, I can't keep up. I love Sawyer paired with almost anybody, I can't just pick one. Don't worry, this story is safely skate. But at least one of my song fics is going to be Sana, and another will be ConMama. And of course, I think about 2 of them are going to be very angsty skate. I mean, Evangeline even thinks skate should be! And is it just me, or do you hate Jack, too?
You know, we should make a Sawyer cult ship thingy! They have it for Claire on lost-forum. I just can't decide who I want him with! Unless...am I the only one out there!
