Turlefreak121: Gah! It kills me how long I waited to actually write this story! I've had plot bunnies up to my ears on this one and thus I thought I better begin before I drown or something. Any who, this is the first fiction for my new series 'Mutamon', so named because...well... As you can imagine, I am a fan of TMNT :P - duh! And also of Pokemon (gasp) Didn't think of that did ya? Anyways, it hit me that what if - what if - someone combined both of those fabulous ideas? Well...that's how I got here so... wish me luck! And I hope no one's done this before (I really try to come up with stuff that no one else does) Anyways...that's that and I hope you enjoy! (smirk) I know I will...

Destiny Awaits

In a world much like our own lives three races of creatures that live in perfect harmony together. They include human beings like us which have altered the world with their technological advances and hand crafted tools to suit their living needs. Then there are animal-like creatures known as "Mutamons". Mutamons are animal-like creatures that often possess powers of the many elements - fire, earth, water, wind, electricity, mind, dark, and metal. They are often used by humans as pets and battle partners. The final race is the mutants - once in abundance, mutants have slowly become scarce in the world. They are often seen as the missing link between Mutamons and humans.

Mutants and humans alike usually become travelers and live off the land as they capture Mutamons in cube devices known as Muta'Cubes and train them to some day battle alongside them so that they shall become Mutamon Masters. However, there can only be one Master even if it is every child's dreams to become it.

Those were the dreams of one mutant who lived in the peace and seclusion of Pilot Town. This mutant was known as 'Mikish Ketchup' - a turtle mutant who had spent his life waiting for this day - his fifteenth birthday and the day that after years of living with a Mutamon professor he would receive his starting Mutamon and start his quest to become a Mutamon Master!

Racing through the dome-shaped house, the red-head rushed through one of the arm-like halls that extended from the main dome and towards a smaller attached dome. Her green eyes flickered in anger as she gnashed her teeth - she wasn't going to let him be late on the most important day of his life!

Kicking the door open, she watched as the startled, green-skinned terrapin fell from his bed after being so rudely awaken from his dreams. He looked at her angrily and let out a growl.

"MIKISH!" she yelled. "Get out of bed! You're going to be LATE!"

Mikish's jaw nearly dropped to the floor. "What? YOU WERE GOING TO LET ME BE LATE, YOU LIL' FART?" he roared as he kicked his covers off roughly and rolled over on his shell to reach under his nightstand and grab the orange mask he had always worn and then reached for the specially made clothes he wore on a regular basis.

Clenching her fist, April let out a growl and shut her eyes tightly to hold back the urge to sock the mutant that in her whole life she had held like a little brother - a pestering, annoying, insensitive little brother who needed a good whack every now and then.

"Mikish! You better hurry up before that kid you hate across the street gets that Mondomander you've been eyeing for months!" she hissed. "Professor Rattatail told you he wouldn't hold it for you!" she warned.

Looking down, April felt some perspiration drop down her cheek as she saw Mikish hunched on the floor with his shell to her. He was leaning over a pair of white mutant-sized underwear with pictures of the common Mutamons on it - Mondomander, Ninjeon, and Raytine.

Finally, the fifteen-year-old turtle turned just enough to notice that April was still standing there with an embarrassed look on her face. His jaw dropped and he felt himself sweating.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, APRIL?" he gasped before grabbing his alarm clock that was in the shape of a Muta'Cube and chucking it at her. "GET OUT!" he yelled as he tried his best to conceal his tail.

Letting out a scream as the poorly aimed clock hit the doorframe to her left; April quickly grabbed the bedroom door's handle and yanked it closed behind her. She leaned against the closed door and blinked in utter confusion as to what she had accidentally seen. She blushed a bit and then placed her hands behind her back and started walking stiffly down the hall.

"Looks...like I'll have to ask Professor to hold that Mondomander for Mikish after all..." she said as she tried to make herself as vacant as possible to forget that horrid sight.

Slowly she stopped at one of the hall's windows and blinked at the sight of a girl with her red hair in pig tails come jogging up the stairs to the entrance to the center dome. April's mouth opened wide and she thought she was going to get sick the green sweat shirt with torn sleeves and the brown-red jeans the girl wore told April one thing - this was Mikish's one true rival. This was Angel!

"I better hurry up!" April gasped. Angel knew - due to Mikish's fat mouth - that Mondomander was the Mutamon that Mikish wanted. And whatever Mikish wanted, Angel got!

The elderly rat mutant walked slowly from the lab window to the table near the door to the lab that had three cubes on it, already one - the one with the fox-like Mutamon known as Ninjeon in it - had been taken by a rather eager youngling who had come at the crack of dawn and was already gone and on his way to start a new adventure. The second was being picked up by a little girl with long brown hair and was excited to get the Mutamon she had waked up so early to get.

The elderly rat gave a sigh knowing that it was not the Mutamon his adopted son had wanted. Instead, the girl had chosen the man ray-like water Mutamon known at Raytine as her Mutamon. She looked up at the mutant Professor and smiled largely.

"Mister Splinter Rattail..." she said as she read his name from the name tag on his lab jacket, "Can I have this Mutamon?"

The professor nodded and smiled. "Of course, child - you can have either of the two Mutamons!" he said kindly. "After all, this is your day!"

Smiling widely, the girl pressed the small button on the side of the mossy green colored cube and released the Raytine that was inside. It was a small Mutamon that flopped onto the floor as soon as it had been released from its cube. Its tail was long and winding with a point on the end that secreted a poison that was much like poison ivy. Its body was a light sky blue and its eyes were yellow with brown iris. It used its flippers to lift itself up enough to see the little girl that now owned it and smiled happily at her with a gentle call of its name.

"Raytine!" it spoke cheerfully to the girl - the only word it could say.

By being set up by its flippers, it revealed to the girl and the Professor that it had a yellow stomach and underneath its flippers was an even lighter shade of blue.

"Do you wish to nickname your Mutamon, Lily?" Splinter asked as he walked towards the girl and Mutamon.

Lily got down on her knees and hugged the Raytine and gently stroked its smooth scales. "I'll call him ReeRay!" she exclaimed.

"Ray!" ReeRay tried to repeat.

Splinter gave a smile though he could feel sweat trailing down his neck. "Of course... What a satisfying nickname for a Raytine..." he said cheekily. It never ceased to amaze him how stupidly people could name their Mutamons.

Lily and ReeRay looked at each other and Lily's eyes began to shine with tears. "Today I got my best friend ever - do you know that, ReeRay?" she asked.

ReeRay's eyes began to show tell-tell signs of tears. "Raytine!"

Splinter scratched his ear and looked to the floor. Humans were always too emotional at the beginning of their quests.

Suddenly, the door directly behind Lily and her Raytine swung open and sent both the human girl and her Mutamon into the wall. With only a slight glance to the accident, Splinter's faithful assistant ran to him.

April's hair was in its usual tight bun and she was wearing her yellow tank top and blue jean shorts. In her apparent rush, some strands of her vibrant red hair had come loose from their bun and were now hanging loosely in her face.

"Professor!" she exclaimed. "Mikish is about to--"

Before the elderly rodent could hear the rest of April's statement, the swinging doors to the lab slung open once more and this time sent the rambunctious red-head flying into the wall and onto Lily and ReeRay.

Splinter blinked as he looked at April before he slowly had his attention drawn to the newly entered Angel as she cleared her throat. The rat blinked at her and then looked down to the last Muta'Cube - the one concealing Mikish's Mondomander. The rodent began to feel himself sweat.

"Good morning, Angel," the Mutamon Professor stated smugly before rubbing his neck. "What do I owe the pleasure of your visit to?"

Smirking, the girl pointed at the Muta'Cube on the table. "I am here to claim my Mondomander!" she exclaimed with a flicker in her eyes.

Reluctantly, the rat picked up the Muta'Cube and held it for a second only inches from the table. He really wished his adopted son had woke up earlier... But he had warned Mikish about this!

Suddenly leaping up from the floor, April rushed over next to Angel and shook her head. "Professor Rattail, NO!" she exclaimed. "Mikish is on his way - 'sides, he's claimed that Mutamon for months!"

Slowly, the hand with the Muta'Cube in it shifted towards April and caused the older female to smirk.

Angel growled at this. "Yeah? Well I shotgunned it!" she informed April and the professor.

Reluctantly yet again, Splinter's hand slowly shifted towards Angel.

April shook her head. "But Mikish lives here - he's been here all along! It's his!"

As the hand shifted for the third time, Angel pushed April out of the way and grinned. "But that just shows how much more dedicated I am!" she smirked. "I still made it here before him!"

Splinter frowned and then held his hand out to the neighborhood bully.

"Agh! Professor!" April groaned as Lily and ReeRay finally began to get up again.

Just as Professor Rattail was about to defend himself, the doors flew open a third time and knocked Lily and ReeRay into submission. Mikish stood with his mask hanging around his neck, his blue jacket's short white sleeves almost over his green shoulders, and his belt unbuckled. There was a large grin on the turtle's face.

"Professor! Professor! I'm here to--" Slowly, the turtle looked over to Angel and he nearly jumped. "What are you doing here?" he demanded in shock.

Angel smirked and pressed the button on her newly obtained Muta'Cube to reveal after a flash of light a lizard-like creature that stood on its hind legs. It had olive skin with a yellow stomach, turquoise eyes, and head fully of raggedy black hair. It blinked and looked up to Angel.

"Mondo Man!" it exclaimed with a smile at her.

Mikish's jaw dropped as he looked in horror at the sight - Angel laughing all the way. The turtle turned to his adopted father and twitched. "You... You gave my Mondomander to that?" he roared.

Splinter rubbed his neck and sighed. "You should have woken up, my son..." he said simply.

"Come, Mandomander!" Angel said smugly with a grin to Mikish and April. "We've got an adventure to start!"

April and Mikish watched as Angel and Mondomander left the lab - Mondomander giving a gentle wave before leaving through the swinging doors. The turtle looked around in confusion - there wasn't another Muta'Cube on the table.

"But...but..." Mikish felt like he had just been robbed!

"Do not freight, Mikish," Splinter sighed as he turned around. His eyes told his son and assistant to come as he continued walking towards the back room. "You will find that I have been prepared for such a situation!"

April and Mikish looked at each other in confusion. For as long as they could remember there were only three Mutamons to be given away each year - a Mondomander, a Ninjeon, and a Raytine.

"And, Mikish, buckle your pants," the professor begged.

Just as the rat said this, the turtle's specially fitted blue jeans fell to the ground and revealed underwear with Muta'Cubes on them. He glared at April before she could release a giggle.

"Shut up!" he snapped.

Once his pants had been returned to their rightful place and his jacket and mask completely put on, Mikish followed April and Splinter into the back room. Mikish had been here many times because it was through here that the awkward family left the dome home and exited to the ranch in the back and to the barn where Mikish completed his chores of taking care of the many Mutamons Splinter cared for.

"Mikish, I am going to show you a very important thing," Splinter revealed as he reached into the book shelf and pulled out a small book-like device that opened up. It was olive colored and the design reminded Mikish of his shell. "This is a ShellDex!" Splinter explained as April stood beside him and smiled.

"The Professor and I created it just for your adventures!" she informed him. "It catalogs all the Mutamons you encounter and gives you what information we already know about them."

"It also informs the main computer of new information that you will be obtaining from your adventures," Splinter continued.

Mikish smirked. "Gee! Thanks, guys!" he said as he eagerly looked around for another Muta'Cube. "But how can I start without--"

"Which is why I decided to catch an extra Mutamon incase you overslept, Mikish," April explained as she rubbed her neck.

Mikish's eyes widened. "Another Mondomander?" he exclaimed.

"Not quite..." April hinted as her and Splinter both began to perpetrate.

"Oh... A Ninjeon?" Mikish asked.

"I'm afraid not, my son..." Splinter sighed.

"Okay - a Raytine's just as good!" Mikish exclaimed.

"It's not exactly a regular starting Mutamon, Mikish..." April explained.

Mikish blinked. "Then what is it?"

Splinter reached into his pocket and handed Mikish the Muta'Cube that he had kept hidden. "Find out!"

Mikish eagerly reached out and took the Muta'Cube. "I bet it's the best Mutamon ever!" he exclaimed before pressing the button on the cube and releasing a beam of light that slowly took an irregular form with a swaying tail.

As the light disappeared it revealed a small cat-like creature with orange fur. Its ears were tipped with gold and so was the start of its tail. There were a lightning bolt shaped mark on each of its cheeks along with a mark on its forehead and back. Its tail swished as its golden eyes looked up at Mikish with excitement.

It let out a purring noise before giving a yelp. "Klunkachu!" it exclaimed.

Mikish blinked. "I wonder what kind of Mutamon it is..." he wondered out loud as he leaned forward and poked the cat's nose.

Splinter and April looked dully at each other.

"Perhaps you should use the Shelldex, Mikish," Splinter sighed.

"Oh! Right!" Mikish exclaimed before pulling out the device and pointing it at the creature.

"Klunkachu - Electric-Cat Mutamon, Stupid..." the Shelldex answered.

"Hey!" Mikish growled as he shook his free hand at the device.

"Fine...not my place..." Shelldex sighed.

Mikish looked at his friend and father. "What's up with this?"

April shrugged. "Has a mind of its own, I guess!"

Klunkachu leaped onto Mikish's shoulders and rubbed its head against his chin. Mikish smiled. "Hey! He likes me!" he exclaimed before he felt a jolt and began shaking only to realize that it was known as the electric-cat Mutamon for a reason!

Splinter chuckled. "Mikish, April - come. I have one more parting gift..." he stated as he opened a closet door and out fell three objects. "Well...three I should say..."

Mikish and April leaned forward and noticed they were three brown shells with light brown belts on them. They had yellow plastron and had a different mark on each shell. One was a tear-drop, the second a red and black flame, and the final a purple 'mist' with spark-like bursts.

As the two blinked, the shell with a tear-drop jumped up and came to life - causing Mikish and April to jump back screaming and send Klunkachu flying to the floor.

A light blue, round head popped out of the front of the shell before two arms, two legs, and a large swirled tail of the same color followed. Its bright brown eyes opened wide as it let out a yell and smirked.

Suddenly - and perhaps more violently - the fire emblem shell followed with a dull red head, arms, legs, and a long lizard-like tail with a yellow underside. Its tail, however, was tipped with a vibrant flame. Its piercing dark brown eyes brought attention to its toothy grin.

Finally, and less subtle, the third shell opened up to reveal a turtle with light olive skin except for on his arms where the elbow down was a bright purple. His long tail was also olive except for a purple stripe in the center.

"These are three very special Mutamons I will be putting in your care, Mikish," Splinter explained.

Mikish smirked. "Four? Four rare Mutamons? You rock, Professor!" he exclaimed. He pointed his Shelldex at the green turtle and shook with excitement. "I wonder what they are..."

"That's silly!" the blue one suddenly spoke up. He crossed his arms and blinked. "I'm a Leotirtle - you should just ask!"

"And I'm a Raphazard, Numb-nuts!" the red one answered as it placed its hands on its sides and cocked an eye ridge.

The final one smiled meekly and looked up at Mikish with his soft brown eyes. "And I'm Donabra!"

Mikish pointed at the three in shock as his jaw dropped. "They...they..."

"Talk? Yes, that is why they're special, Mikish," Splinter began to explain.

Suddenly, Mikish fell backwards and gave Klunkachu only moments to move. His body loosened up and his legs spread open.

Everyone in the room blinked and Raphazard looked up at Splinter.

"Ya got a real cream ov da crop dere, Doc!" he said smuggly.
