Summary: While in the Delta quadrant the crew of Voyager have encountered many species, now they must face one that even the Borg fear.

Seven-of-Nine walked down the corridor towards sick-bay. The Doctor had asked her to come in for some tests to see if her Borg implants were still in remission. Seven walked into sick-bay and was met by the Doctor, he smiled in his usual manner and greeted her, "And how are you tonight Seven? Anything interesting happen yet?" Seven had always been fascinated by the Doctor, for a hologram he displayed more human features at time than the human crew members did. "When last I was at my post everything was normal." she said in a drone like fashion. The doctor shrugged, "I'll say one thing, Borg aren't much in the way of small talk." Seven knew that the Doctor was speaking in 'jest' as he often did, but decided to clarify the situation anyway, she spoke, "All Borg share a collective mind, they have no need for, 'small-talk'." she said coolly. The Doctor smiled, "No I guess that would eliminate the need for chit chat." The Doctor was about to check Seven's neural interface when Captain Janeway's voice broke in on Seven's comm. "Seven we're going to need you on the bridge, right away." The doctor shook his head, "Captain I don't mean to sound rude but I'm in the middle of checking Seven's diagnostics right now, so is it possible for this to wa..." Janeway cut him off, "This is top priority Doctor, I need Seven on the bridge now!" The Doctor dropped his head and laughed, "Well, we'll have to continue this some other time I suppose." With that Seven left sick-bay and walked towards the turbo-lift.

As Seven reached the bridge she couldn't help but feel something was wrong, she didn't understand why she felt this way either. She had heard other crew members talk about 'intuition' she had always taken it as something made up by the human mind, yet now she was sensing something amiss. As the doors to the bridge opened, Seven looked up and into the empty space on screen before her, only this time it wasn't so empty. As she looked up her heart almost stopped. On screen in front of them was a ship roughly about the size of Voyager, a bluish gray tint to the hull, and a design that seemed to be merged from the nightmares of a hundred people. It's shape looked more like a tangled spider's web than anything else that could be described, yet cut off at one side and looped to the back. The center of the ship was suspended from the rear, it seemed to be engulfed in a bluish-green glow and a large sharp looking fin protruded from one side. As Seven stood there staring at the site, everything else seemed to stop. And she voiced two words in a hush that brought tears of fright to her eyes. "The Nemesis." Captain Janeway turned to Seven blankly, "You know who they are?" she said. "Yes, unfortunately I do." Seven managed to say. "What do you mean unfortunately?" Captain Janeway didn't like the way that had sounded. "They are called the Nemesis, about 5 years ago the Borg first encountered them. when the Borg came across their ship they scanned it and found their technology to be quite advanced, the Borg transported to their ship and demanded they turn themselves over for assimilation. They surrendered and 10 crew members including the captain were taken back to the Borg cube for assimilation, to find out how well they would function as drones. Unfortunately once they were there it was discovered that their unique anatomy made it impossible for them to be assimilated, they turned on the Borg and..." Seven paused barely able to hide her pain. Captain Janeway had never seen Seven-of-nine like this before, she put her hand on the tall blonde's shoulder. "And what Seven?" she said trying to comfort her. "They killed them. Those 10 individuals killed every drone on that cube. Their strength is unlike anything that the Borg had encountered before, they couldn't stop them. When 2 more Borg cubes arrived to help, the Nemesis used the weapons from their ship and destroyed both cubes." Captain Janeway couldn't believe what she had heard, 10 beings had killed a whole cube of drones, and then destroyed 2 other Borg cubes with a single ship.

Seven straightened up, "The whole collective felt the pain of those drones, it was decided that they were to be avoided at all costs from there on out. A year later another Borg cube encountered them, and were destroyed before they could escape. They are a savage race Captain, species that had encountered them will attain for that. The Borg have assimilated several races that had encountered them as well, all have had similar experiences. The Nemesis lie and make you think that they are harmless, but as soon as you let your guard down they turn on you." Captain Janeway paced over to her chair, "Then we just won't play their game, helm get us out of here now!" She shouted. "Aye aye Captain." Mr. Paris said laying in a course away from the Nemesis ship. Ensign Kim spoke up as they the Captain prepared to give the order to engage. "Captain, we have a transmission coming in from the alien ship." the captain looked to Mr. Kim, "Block it. We already know what they have to say." She yelled out. Harry shook his head, "No can do Captain, their signals to strong, on main viewer." All the bridge crew looked up to stare into the eyes of the alien.

His appearance was frightening, he had no skin, only white bone covered his body. His build was huge, he was at least 6' 4", and had a body that looked as if steroid injections were mandatory for his race. He had no hair, but did have a large black stripe over his left eye, his eyes were a neon orange a tiny black pupil barely shown in the center, no nose could be seen, only a grove wear a nose would have been. Seven gasped, "Joch' Annoh." she said again in a hushed tone. The alien's eyes lit up, "Have we met?" He said in a dark tone. Seven shook her head, "No. I know you from reputation only, and what you did to those three Borg cubes 5 years ago." Joch' smiled his mouth seemed to have an orange hum to it. "Oh, good. Then you're already familiar with us, we can skip the tiresome lying routine, and go straight to the fun part... destroying you!" to be continued...
