CHAPTER TWO
To Redeem This Empty Life
Maureen came close and looked over Collins’ shoulder at little Dorian. She gently took him from Collins’ arms.
“ Awww the little darling is so cute!”
She gently tickled the one-year-old’s nose. He giggle cooed and yawned tiredly.
“ Awww…I think someone is tired”
Maureen looked up and smiled at the group. She gently handed the babe back over to Collins, who looked down at him. He looked at his dark hair and moderately dark skin. He smiled gently
“ He’s a cutie, I’ll say that…”
They all nodded in agreement.
3 years later
Dorian Angelus Mendoza, child of Maureen Johnson, Joanne Jefferson, Mark Cohen, Mimi Marquez, Roger Davis, and Tom Collins was now 4 years old, in fact it was his 4th birthday. It was October 29th, 1994. Four years since Angel Schunard’s death. But with each passing year, the pain became a little more bearable. Each year, they showed the same video of the Drag Queen, who had had such a big, and loving heart.
Collins sat next to the bath tub as Dorian bathed. The little boy was laughing and splashing in the bath water. Collins smiled softly at him, resting his cheek on his hand.
“If only Angel could see you. She’d love you kid”
He sighed, thinking to himself, when a rhythmic banging on the porcelain caught his attention. He looked down at Dorian. The boy had taken a luffa and started banging it against the side of the tub, successfully snapping Thomas Collins out of his thoughtful state.
“Oh yeah Dorian, Angel would of loved you”
Dorian giggled and splashed him.
“ Hey ! That’s not fair !”
Collins, laughing, splashed him back.
“Are you two almost ready !”
Joanne’s voice came through the door of the bathroom, as she knocked.
“Yeah we’ll be out in a minute!”
Collins called back at her as he picked Dorian up out of the tub and dried him off. He gently helped the boy get dressed
“ There you go. All ready for your party”
Dorian held open his arms as he sat on the counter of the bathroom sink. Collins stooped down and picked Dorian up gently and carried him out of the bathroom.
