To Breathe Again

'It figured' Dean couldn't help but think. Barely together for hours and already at odds. The words flew, sharp, borne of anger and meant to hurt. They were in the middle of the road no less.

Suddenly, he moved until Sam was behind him, their dad before them. Dean's hands knotted in John's shirt, fighting the urge to move the man physically further away.

For years, whenever his family was together, Dean felt as though he was drowning in a war of words. Now for the first time in a very long time, he was able to breathe.

"Stop it."
