It was the oh-so-famous after party that Chad had planned. They were at the park and everyone from East High was there. Jack was there, barbeque-ing with Chad's dad, Chris, for the students, and everyone was hanging out and goofing off. Taylor was grabbing a soda for her and Chad, since Chad was being scolded by his mom at the moment for yelling at his 5-year-old sister, Kristina. Gabriela was telling her mom about Troy and Gabriela's 5-year-old sister, Teresa, was yelling at her mom for attention. Troy was sitting on a picnic table with his head in his hands, tired of listening to Jason and Kelsi fight about whether or not you need brains for basektball or theater. Zeke was sitting with Sharpay and Ryan, listening to them rant about how great his cookies were and how they wanted to hire him for their upcoming Sweet 16 (No, Ryan is not gay).
OnceGabriela was done with her mother and had gotten her approval, shewalked over to Taylor, who was leaning against the tree, drinking her Sprite.
"Having fun," Gabriela asked sarcastically, leaning against the tree, knowing that Taylor just wanted to talk to Chad for at least a minute.
"So much," Taylor replied in a sarcastic tone, also. The two girls laughed as they saw Kelsi stomp her foot on Jason's. Troy told Jason something, so Jason walked away and joined a group that consisted of basketball players and cheerleaders. Kelsi grunted before joining a group of drama club members. Troy noticed Gabriela and Taylor and casually waved. They waved back as he weaved his way towards them. Taylor looked to her side and glanced at Chad, who was apologizing to his sister before she ran off and played with Gabriela's sister. He noticed Taylor and jogged towards them. Once at the tree, before Troy, he leaned his arm on the tree and smiled at Taylor. She smiled back and gave him his drink before she whispered something in his ear. He nodded and let go of the tree and the two walked away to a nearby bench. Troy got to the tree, finally, and gestured toward Taylor and Chad. Gabriela shrugged.
"So, that was a great game," Gabriela said, turning her head from where it was, looking at Chad, to Troy. He smiled and thanked her. There was a small pause between the two before Troy spoke up.
"Do you want to go," Troy said, then whispering the rest, "rent a boat".
"What?" Gabriela asked, not hearing what he said.
"Do you want to get a boat, you know, to take a ride on the boat, that goes over the lake, that's over there, and it's free," Troy said. Gabriela smile and nodded, walking to the picnic table to grab a drink, before her and Troy walked to the place where the boat is rented.
Gabriela smiled at Troy when he took her hand and laced his fingers with her's and he smiled back. They walked to the little place and got a boat, a row-yourself kind of boat. Troy helped Gabriela into the boat and got in while she placed her soda on the bottom of the floor. Troy got into the boat and they settled off into the lake. Troy rowed to where there was no noise heard and you couldn't see the party anymore, then he stopped.
"So, Gabriela Montez," Troy started. "Tell me about yourself."
"Well, my name is Gabriela Montez," Gabriela started. "I transferred here from Sun High in San Diego. I won the Chemistry portion of the Scholastic Decathalon competition there when I was a Sophmore. I moved there Freshman year from Sausalito."
"Wow, you're a Cali girl," Troy said. Gabriela gave him a weird glare before laughing.
"Yeah I am," she replied. "How about you, tell me about yourself."
"My name is Troy Bolton, and I am uber popular," Troy said, smirking, causing Gabriela to laugh. "Basketball is the big sport of our school, and since I'm the star basketball player, I am the the guy who everyone likes, not trying to sound cocky," he said. "Our rivals are the West High Knights," he told her.
"Good, now enough about school, Troy, more about you," Gabriela told him, pushing his shoulder playfully.
"Well, I am a Junior, as are you," Troy said, Gabriela nodding, so he went on. "I've had two girlfriends, and a marriage, but that didn't last, since after pre-school we went to different Kindergartens. Never rush into marriage or get married too young," Troy joked. "So, You?"
"Uhm, well, my dad died about two weeks after my birth. So, I never knew him. My mom said that he wasn't too happy about having a child at such a young age, cause they got pregnant at 22, about 2 months after the wedding. She said that he wasn't the one, and she had made a mistake. So, he died in a car accident, the day he left my mom and me."
"I'm sorry," Troy said, feeling bad for her.
"It's fine. I don't think I would have liked him much anyways, and life, knowing that my dad left me and didn't want me, would have been much harder," she said.
"So, Gabriela, you know what I like about you," Troy said, putting his elbows on his knees to get closer, her doing the same. "That you can be yourself." Gabriela smiled at him and he smiled back, staying like that for a minute, neither person moving, just staring into the other's eyes.
There you see her
Sittin' there across the way
She don't got a lot to say
But there's somethin' about her
And you don't know why
But you're dyin' to try you wanna
Kiss the girl (Kiss the girl)
They kept staring at one another, as if it was a staring contest. He knew that he was staring at her with meaning in his eyes, but her look to him was completely mysterious. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't read her face.
Yes you want her, look it her you know you do
Possible she wants you too
There is one way to ask her (Ask her)
Don't take a word, not a single word go on and
Kiss the girl
Gabriela's look softened as both of them returned to their normal positions. Their hands were folded on their laps and they didn't dare look at one another.
Sha la, la, la, la
Oh my, my look like the boys too shy
Ain't gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la
Ain't that sad, what a shame, too bad
You're gonna miss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you're gonna kiss the girl
You're gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you're gonna kiss the girl
You're gonna miss the girl
(Hey boy, come here, kiss the girl-muah! Oh)
Gabriela and Troy looked at one another and locked eyes. They both smiled as they moved to the side of the boat and sat next to one another. Troy sat on the opposite side to balance out the weight as they smiled and got a bit closer.
Now you're moments
Floatin' in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better (Better, better)
She don't say a word
And she won't say a word until you
Kiss the girl (Go on and kiss her)
Sha la, la, la, la
Don't be scared, you gotta be prepare
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la don't stop now, don't try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you gotta kiss the girl
You're gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you gotta kiss the girl
You're gonna miss the girl
Troy and Gabriela were inches away from kissing one another when the weight was too heavy for the boat, causing Troy to fall on Gabriela and the boat to tip over. Gabriela yelped as the two landed in the lake, but it was only three feet deep. They stood up, drenching wet and looked at eachother. They gave a small laugh before they got serious. Troy moved a bit closer to Gabriela, as she did the same.
Kiss the girl, uh
Kiss the girl (Oh yeah)
Kiss the girl
Put your lips together like this and kiss
Sha la, la, la, la
Float along and listen to this song
It's sayin' 'Kiss the girl'
Sha la, la, la, la
Music play, the music say you gotta
Kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you gotta kiss the girl
You're gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you gotta kiss the girl
You're gonna miss the girl
Percussion
Troy was inches away from Gabriela before he pulled her by her waist until the only space between them was the space between their lips, though it was merely millimeters.
Sha la, la, la, la
Oh my, my look like the boys too shy
Ain't gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la
Ain't that sad, what a shame, too bad
You're gonna miss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you're gonna kiss the girl
You're gonna kiss the girl
Sha la, la, la, la oh my, my you're gonna kiss the girl
You're gonna miss the girl
Pause
Girl
Muah, muah!
Kiss the girl
Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da
You know you want to
Go over there and kiss her
Troys lips formed a smile, as did Gabriela's before he leaned in a gave her a gentle, yet meaningfull kiss on her lips.
