A/N: High School Musical never happened.

"Mom," Gabriella yelled from her walk-in closet. Her mother, Sonya, came in to see her daughter, hands on her hips, in a dress that looked as if it was the U.S.A. flag. It was a blue tank top that turned into a skirt of stripes of red and white below the rib cage, with a matching sash. Sonya covered her mouth with a hand, trying to hold back a laugh. Gabriella stared at her mother with a sarcastic look as she shook her hands. Her wrist was covered in thick blue, white, and red bangles, and her neck had on a silver chain that held an American flag. Her earring were stars that had three stripes: Red, white, and blue. Her hair was pulled up to a ponytail with a ribbon that looked like the American flag. Her shoes were white with the straps that were colored blue and red, and on the platform of it were blue stars. Gabriella looked like a human version of the flag. She huffed before stomping on the floor, trying to show her mother how ugly she looked. Sonya let her hand off of her mouth and smiled. She walked towards her daughter and pulled her into a hug. Gabriella looked as if she was ready to cry.

"It's okay, mija," Sonya told her daughter. Gabriella looked at her mom, backing off and pointing at her outfit, showing that it was far from okay.

"I can't believe Christopher made me wear this," Gabriella said, cringing when she said his name.

"Sweetie, he's just trying to help. He thinks that if he shows that you're fully into America, that your father will win the spot as Governor," Sonya said, referring to Gabriella's father's campaign manager.

"But wouldn't they want to show our Mexican heritage," Gabriella said, wanting to get out of wearing the ugly dress. Then she looked at her mother.

"Well, I don't see you wearing something ugly," Gabriella said, looking at her mother's outfit. It was green halter gown with matching shoes.

"Why can't I wear something cute," Gabriella whined. Sonya laughed as she looked through Gabriella's dresses, to find another dress for her to wear. She smiled as she pulled out medium turquoise-y blue satin evening gown and showed it to Gabriella. Gabriella hugged her mom and smiled, pulling back and looking at the dress.

"Now, I have to go help your sister," Sonya said, leaving to help her five-year-old daughter, Rosenda, who everyone just called Rose. "Don't forget your mask," Sonya called out. They were attending a masquerade party for the government and the people running for governor. So Gabriella grabbed her matching mask with feathers, sequins, and beads and putting it on her bed so she can grab her matching purse and jewelry, and putting on the matching shoes. She pulled on her Mardi Gras necklaces, the colors of gold, purple, and green, and it matched her outfit perfectly.

"Mom," Troy yelled for his mother, Vivian. "What do you think?" Troy asked, turning around in his tuxedo. Vivian covered her mouth to hide her gasp, not believing that her little boy is growing up, and looks so adult-like in his tuxedo.

"You look great, sweetie," she said to her 16-year-old son. He smiled and put his RAZR in his pocket. He walked down the stairs with his mom and saw his dad sitting in the living room with his 5 year old sister, Angela. They both smiled as they saw the two.

"Viv, you look great," Danny, short for Daniel, said to his wife before giving her a peck on the lips.

"Thank you, you don't look so bad yourself, Danny," Vivian told him. He smiled and looked at his son who was holding back his sister from running to the leftover spagetti that was left on the counter, not wanting her cute blue dress to get dirty, and knowing that if it did, Vivian would scold him instead, saying that he should have grabbed her.

"Angie, there'll be food over there," Troy said, grunting, not realizing how strong she was. She stopped trying to release his grasp and look at him.

"You look handsome," she told him, causing her brother to smile. "How'd you do that," she said as his smile disappeared. He brought out his hand and formed it into a claw, as a threat to tickle her. She stuck her tongue out at him and his started tickling her as she yelled for her mom to help. The Bolton's smiled at the sight of the two children playing together and Vivian grabbed the camera on the counter and took a quick picture, and it came out perfect.

"Okay, enough you guys," Danny said, causing the two children to let go. "Grab your masks so we can go," he told them. They grabbed their masks and headed into his car.

"Daddy," Angela started. "Are you running against the Terminator," Angela said, referring to how her dad is running for Governor. They all laughed and corrected her.

"No, the Terminator is California's goverenor. I'm running against Montez," he said, saying Montez with hate. They had met and already disliked each other. "But don't worry, princess," he told her, patting her head before driving out of the drive way. "I'll try my hardest to beat that man," he said. Vivian had to calm him down. He had only met Manuel Montez once, and knew that he had a family, but that's all. They had never seen their family. And viceversa, the Montez's had never met the Bolton family, nor seen them. But, that would all change this night, at the government's Masquerade party.
