A.N: Found this Challenge on the Portkey Forums. Hope it's okay!

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or the challenge. I've to flesh out the plot a bit though.

October 12th 1999

"What?" Ron repeated for the third time. "What do you mean she's gone?" He could not wrap his head around the fact that his little sister had decided to up sticks and leave with no warning, leaving a letter as her only goodbye.

"I got up this morning and she had left!" Harry told his red-headed best friend. Ron read Ginny's note again.

Harry, it sounds so cliché to say this, but it really isn't you, it's me. I'm sorry for not saying goodbye properly, it's too hard and I know that if I try, you'll only talk me out of it. I want you to know that you shouldn't worry about me, I'll be fine. I just have to get away from everything for a while and I know I have to figure myself out on my own. I hope I'll see you again someday. I love you Harry but I have to do this.

Ginny

"What did I do?" Harry groaned and resumed his frantic pacing. Upon finding the note when he woke up to a flat without Ginny, he had apparated directly to the Burrow, where Ron and Hermione were having breakfast together. The three were still in the kitchen an hour later trying to work out why Ginny would have left.

"Oh Harry, I'm sure you didn't do anything. You read her note; she said it wasn't you…" Hermione's tone suggested that even she could not feel optimistic for the words she spoke. "I mean, this is Ginny we're talking about. I'm sure she'll be back soon, she's probably just got a few things to sort out."

"I just don't know what I could have done wrong." Harry sighed, falling into a chair and holding his head in his hands. Hermione put a comforting arm around his shoulders, and with this he looked up. "Don't worry, Harry. We'll help you through this."

July 4th 2008

"Hermione, c'mon, hurry up!" Harry shouted to his wife of four years through the bathroom door. He was buzzing with anticipation, tapping rapidly on the doorframe.

"It takes time!" Hermione yelled back.

"Do you think Ron noticed you weren't drinking tonight?" Harry asked through the door, trying to distract them both from their anxious waiting.

"I do love Ron, but he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the… " Harry stopped pacing abruptly when Hermione's muffled sentence drifted away. The bathroom door finally opened and Hermione walked out slowly, an indescribable look on her face.

She looked up at Harry with the slightest hint of tears in her eyes, shrugged to try to hide her disappointment and quietly said, "I'm not pregnant." Harry's stature fell and he gave a heavy sigh, stepping forward to hug Hermione. They hadn't been trying for children for all that long but every negative result was a painful blow to them both. Hermione sighed against Harry's chest as he wrapped his arms around her as tightly as he possibly could.

"It'll happen one day…" Harry murmured, trying his best to convince himself as much as he wanted to convince his wife. Hermione repeated him, whispering to herself. The disappointment weighed her down and her legs felt heavy and she was glad of Harry's support, for she was sure she would have fallen otherwise. She longed to be a mother; to carry a child. All her life she had worked towards the future – her career – and it was now, when she had achieved the career she had always dreamed of, that she had a new dream; to start a family with the love of her life and live happily ever after. One day. It would happen one day. It had to.

July 13th 2008

It was a typical Sunday evening when Molly Weasley was about to start serving dinner to the family, when the doorbell rang. She huffed out an exasperated breath and called for one of her sons to start dishing up dinner whilst she went to greet the caller.

She gasped when she finally reached the front door, opening it to find her only daughter.

"Ginny?" Mrs Weasley covered her mouth in shock.

"Hello, mum…" The young red headed woman smiled shyly.

A.N: Just a sort-of prologue, letting you all know what happened – sort of. Obviously the chapters will be longer and they'll flow, not be jumpy etc. So please, read on :)
