Chapter 6: Make Over!

Sakura’s mouth was wide open, her eye twitched, not sure if she was supposed to be happy or upset about this. A big part of her was screaming with joy, a small part of her was afraid, of how she would look after the make over. Her eyes shut tightly, as she took deep breaths, getting up she walked out of her room. Though stopped in her tracks as she heard her father talking on the phone.

“Really!? That’s great! I bet she’ll be so excited, though I’m going to need proof that you’re actually make up experts and not trying to kidnap my daughter!”

Shaking her head, her father could be over protective at times. Though after a moment, she heard him speak again.

“I can?! Alright! Would you like to talk to the winner?”

After a moment of silence, Sakura was sure her heart was going to pound through her chest any minute now. Her father stepped out of his room, down the hall.

“Sakura! Phone!”

Gulping, she walked down the long hall toward her parent’s room. Grabbing the phone from her father, she placed it up to her ear.

“Hello?”

“Sakura? This is the make up experts team! Did you get our email?”

“Hai.”

She was shy, and a bit nervous. Though the woman on the other line, laughed, she had a beautiful laugh.

“That’s great! Your father said you can have your make over done on Saturday, are you up for it?!”

Sakura’s face immediately brightened, as she looked toward her father, grinning. He smiled back giving her a thumbs up before vanishing into his room again.

“Hai!”

“That’s great! We’ll come by Saturday to pick you up! Sound good?”

“Hai! Do you need my address?”

“Nope, your father already gave it to us! See you soon!”

“Okay! Thank you!”

With that she hung up the phone running into her father’s room and lunging onto his back hugging him tightly.

“Arigatou! Arigatou!”

She chanted happily, the side of her face mushed up against her father’s back. Her father turned around picking her up and hugging her tightly. After a moment Sakura squirmed, to excited to stay still. Once he set her down, she handed him the phone back before sprinting through the house, screaming with joy. Stopping in her tracks, she ran back to her room, emailing her friends in a thanks.

‘Dear well everyone!

Thank you so much for entering me in the contest! I can’t believe you would do that for me! You guys are the best friends I could ask for! Well my mom just walked in and I’m going to tell her the good news! Thanks so much! I love you guys you’re the best!

-Sakura’

With that she sent the email and ran out of her room. Though stopped when she heard her father and mother talking.

“She’s to young to be entered in a contest and get a make over! Besides she’s pretty just the way she is!”

“You know very well, that she gets picked on for her looks! You can’t just cancel the make over, she was so excited about it!”

“No! She’s not getting that make over done!”

Sakura walked into the living room, tears welling in her eyes, her parents turned to her. Her mother smiled, though her father frowned sadly. Sakura glared at her mother,

“Why won’t you let me get the make over done?! I swear sometimes it’s like you hate me and want me to suffer sometimes!”

“You know very well I want what’s best for you!”

“Then let me get this make over done so I don’t look like a hideous freak!”

“You are not hideous!”

“Yes I am! Admit it your daughter looks ugly with a large forehead, pink hair, braces, and glasses!”

“Sakura that’s enough! Now go to your room! My word is final you are not getting that make over done!”

Sakura glared, tears streaked down her face, she ran for the door though her father grabbed her into a hug, trying to calm her down.

“Let me go!”

She yelled wriggling out of his grasp before running out the door.

She had no clue where she was going, all she knew is she wanted to get away. Her mother hated her, she was sure of it. Her legs were going to give out, she slowed her pace and stared ahead of her, there was a park across the street. Waiting for the light to change she tapped her foot impatiently. Once the light turned green she darted across the street and into the park. It was abandoned, thankfully. Plopping down onto the swings, she threw her glasses onto the sand beneath her, placing her face into her hands as she cried. Slowly rocking herself back and forth as she swung lightly, tears running down her face as she tried to get them to stop, though they didn’t. Letting out a loud sob she stopped the slight swing she had going and leaned forward, resting her arms on her legs and burying her head into her arms. Her shoulders heaved up and down as she cried. Her pink hair fell over her shoulders which heaved up and down as she cried.

“Why are you all alone crying?”

Sakura jolted up, pushing the swing back away from the male in front of her.

“Ano..gomen nasai I don’t speak english.”

She whispered, shaking her head slightly, allowing the tears to run down her cheeks. Her eyes focused on the male in front of her. He had black hair that went past his shoulders, and tied back into a low pony tail. He wore a black business suit, though the jacket must have been left behind because his sleeves were rolled up and his tie was messily done. The male smiled lightly, he had lines going diagonal from the beginning of each eye and expanded toward his cheeks though stopped. He reminded her of someone, with those dark charcoal colored eyes. Her hands were placed tightly on the chains of the swing, her body was completely tense, was he some rapist?!

“Ah, Japanese? I haven’t talked like this in a long time.”

He spoke Japanese perfectly, she was surprised that he hadn’t spoken it in a long time. He spoke it so clearly like he had spoke it all his life. She hunched her shoulders slightly as she stared at him, a bit wary of what he wanted from her.

“Why were you crying?”

Sakura dropped her head in defeat, her life couldn’t get worse then it already was, so why not talk?

“My friends signed me up for a make over contest, and I won. But my mom won’t let me do the make over.”

She whispered sighing slightly, more tears spilling from her jade eyes as she stared at her feet.

“Ah, I see. You were looking forward to it?”

Sakura nodded slowly,

“More then you can ever imagined, I was hoping with this make over I wouldn’t be called a freak, or ugly.”

She whispered bitting the inside of her cheek to keep her sobs under control.

“Kids can be so cruel lately.”

He whispered, looking toward the sky, he was talking to himself apparently. He looked at her and smiled lightly.

“Oh, sorry I forgot my manners, I’m Uchiha Itachi.”

Sakura’s eyes widened, Uchiha, her brain worked to figure out why that sounded so familiar. Though she drew a blank every time. She felt like she should know that name by heart, though she was to upset to think of why it was familiar.

“Oh, I’m-”

She paused, eyeing him warily,

“You’re not a rapist or murderer or potential kidnapper/molester are you?”

Itachi laughed slightly, shaking his head.

“No, I’m not. You can trust me, I can understand why you’re so wary of me though. I don’t always look to friendly.”

He gave her a genuine smile, that made her melt with the up most comfort.

“My name’s Haruno Sakura.”

Itachi smiled, holding his hand out to her.

“Nice to meet you Haruno Sakura.”

Sakura smiled back, bringing her hand out to shake his. After a moment of silence he stood up and walked behind her. She immediately tensed up and bit the inside of her lip. Was trusting him a bad idea?! He placed his hands on her back, she jumped slightly, feeling a small bead of sweat drip down her forehead down her cheek. Though she immediately relaxed as he began to push her on the swing. She smiled lightly, moving her legs in and out as she swung to get more air.

“So Sakura, why are you out here all alone?”

Sakura sighed slightly, the wind rushing over her face as she was pushed forward, before her hair sprawled out behind her and into her face as the swing fell back toward Itachi.

“My mom told me as I said, I couldn’t get the make over done and I ran out of the house upset, I didn’t really think of where I was going, but I stumbled here..”

He pushed against her back once more as shw swung, getting more air. Her hands gripping onto the chain tightly to keep herself from falling. Her skirt had been pulled between her legs slightly so it didn’t lift into the air.

They spent over half hour just chatting and getting to know each other. She had asked questions, that surprised him. He hadn’t expected someone so young like her to be asking such intelligent questions. He had assumed she would ask what his favorite color was or something like that. Though she had asked where he worked, what his middle name was, when he moved from Japan, about his family. Almost everything, though he answered with honesty seeing as she had answered his question with honesty. Digging her feet into the ground as Itachi brought the swing to a stop.

“Come on, I’ll take you home before it gets dark. It isn’t safe to be out before the sun goes down.” He held his hand out, holding her glasses in them. She slowly took them placing then on before grabbing his outstretched hand and beginning to walk out of the park and toward her house. He said he did have a car, though knew that would freak her out so decided to just walk. So she had a sense of protection that she could escape if he did try to do anything to her. He walked holding onto her hand, his other hand held the black business jacket over his shoulder, Sakura stared at her feet as they walked.

“I guess I should have looked to where I was going..”

The male looked down at her smiling,

“It’s okay, I know this town very well.”

Sakura smiled looking up at him, he was nice and she liked that. He walked her to her house, she knocked on the door, not having a spare key yet. Her father flung the door open glaring deadly daggers at Itachi.

“Daddy it’s okay! This is Uchiha Itachi! He helped me find my way home since I-ano..kind of lost my sense of direction.”

Her father relaxed slightly, though was still wary of this man.

“Thank you for bringing my daughter home, would you like to come in?”

Sakura had already slipped by her father and into the house. Warming herself up, she should have brought the school jacket with her when she ran off. Not realizing how cold it was. Looking over she watched as Itachi walked into the house, she smiled happily at him. He returned the smile watching as her mother walked in, her arms crossed over her chest as she glared down at her daughter.

“Why did you run away!?”

Sakura frowned looking down, she kicked the rug slightly,

“It’s not really considered running away if I returned in the same day. More of a long walk if you ask me.”

“Don’t get smart with me young lady!”

Sakura flinched, her life was hell and she knew it. Though she sighed in relief as her father walked over.

“Itachi, we’ll be right back, I have to talk to my wife in private, make yourself at home.”

Her father smiled before disappearing down the hall and into their room. Sakura stood there, for a moment, before twirling around to look at Itachi, she smiled at him.

“Would you like a drink of water?!”

When he nodded, she ran into the kitchen grabbing an un-packed glass and filling it with ice and water before walking back into the living room. He was seated on the couch, taking the water he thanked her. She plopped onto the floor, by the coffee table. The silence was certainly awkward, though she got a bright idea.

“Itachi-san! Would you like to play cards with me?!”

She asked, turning her head to look at him, when he nodded she jumped up from her spot and down the hall. After a few moments she returned with a deck of cards. Plopping onto the floor on one side of the coffee table that had been bought while she was at school she assumed. Itachi sat on the floor across the table, setting the glass down while she passed the cards out.

“Go fish sound okay?”

When he nodded, she grinned. Passing the cards out before placing a pile in the middle. Straightening her cards she looked up at him,

“You go first.”

He nodded, looking at his cards after straightening them as well.

Her parents walked out of their room about five minutes later. Her father walked down the hall first, smiling at his daughter who had his back toward him as she played cards.

“Go fish.”

He walked over placing a hand on Sakura’s head, making her jump a little, as she looked up and smiled at him. Her father looked back over at Itachi,

“Thank you for bringing our daughter home, Itachi was it?”

Itachi set his cards down nodding to her father.

“Hai, and it was no problem!”

He smiled standing up.

“Well I better get going now, See you another time Sakura!”

Sakura jumped to her feet dropping her cards onto the table.

“Wait!”

She yelled, looking over at her father once Itachi stopped by the door.

“Daddy! Can Itachi come over another time!?”

Her father nodded his head,

“Sure, though it’s up to him if he’d like to come over another time.”

Sakura looked back over at Itachi, who smiled nodding his head. In response she smiled back, running over and hugging him tightly. Itachi was a bit taken back by her hug, though smiled hugging her back.

“Nice meeting all of you, I’ll see you soon Sakura!”

Sakura nodded her head eagerly, opening the door for him as he walked out, she stood in the doorframe. Her father behind her, and her mother next to her father.

“Bye Itachi-san!”

She yelled, waving to him. Itachi waved back before disappearing around the corner. Sakura closed the door, looking over at her father and smiled. Though looked at her mother who frowned, in response, she frowned as well. Not being able to get the make over done, had crushed had and still did. Bowing her head she was about to walk around them, though felt her father’s heavy hand on her shoulder, and she stopped.

“Sakura.”

She slowly rose her head up, forcing a sad smile onto her face, her father smiled in return.

“You should go pick something nice out for your make over in two days.”

Sakura’s eyes brightened, she could hear her mother gasp, though paid no attention as she launched herself at her father, hugging him tightly.

“Thank you Oto-san!”

He hugged her as well, though after a moment placed her on her own to feet as she darted toward her room, going to pick out an outfit from her recently put away clothes.

The one day in between her make over had gone by in a flash, she had told Gaara about it. Though he looked as if he could care less. Though didn’t tell her to stop either, though she knew she should have. Her mouth had blabbed on its own, and she felt ashamed after lunch so remained quite for the rest of the day. When she came home, her dad had greeted her, though her mother had not been seen that entire night. Figuring she was working over time or something, so thought nothing of it as she snuggled under the covers, her glasses folded up on the night stand beside her bed. Tomorrow was the day she would get her make over, as much as her body urged her to stay up, with excitement flowing through her veins, she fell asleep, tired from the day’s events. Waking up as the light from the sun bled through the blinds, she cracked one eye open. Sitting up, her pink hair sprawled in several directions as she stretched out, then it hit her. Today was the big make over. A grin plastered onto her face as she shot out of the bed and into her private bathroom as she showered and dressed into a pair of jeans and blue sleeveless shirt, with a V-neck. Pulling her hair back after she brushed it, running into the kitchen, she finally ate a good breakfast, her father had gone out and got American food, it would take awhile to get used to it, though the smell of pancakes her dad had made. Smelt to delicious, and indeed it was, after she ate she brushed her teeth throughly, making sure not one speck of food was to be found in between her braces. Sitting in her living room, she had her shoes on and sat beside her father, reading the newspaper as he did also. Her mother was still asleep, she wasn’t in for the idea of the make over, but her father was letting her get it done anyway whether or not her mother approved. The door rang, and she sprang to her feet, her father began to fold the newspaper, as she swung the door open, she was met with a loud pop noise as confetti sprang into her face. Landing on her and in her pink hair, she stared a bit bluntly, registering what had just happened. Though the loud yell awoke her from her thoughts.

“Surprise!”

A woman with black hair walked forward shaking her hand,

“You must be Sakura! I’m Midori and I’m your make over specialist!”

Sakura eagerly shook the woman’s hand,

“Hai! I’m Sakura, and this is my father, Hiroshi!”

Midori gladly accepted Sakura’s father’s hand which was out stretched to shake. Midori smiled happily,

“Well what are we waiting for! Let’s get on with your big make over!”

Sakura nodded happily, following after the woman into a large white hummer limo. Her father exchanged small talk with Midori, who occasionally asked Sakura questions. Though grabbed a clipboard and smiled at Sakura.

“Okay! A few questons! Hiroshi, what is Sakura allergic to? I don’t wanna endanger her health!”

Her father answered the questions, with little hesitation as Midori quickly scribbled them down. She looked over at Sakura, her dark blue eyes shimmering with happiness.

“Okay! Now Sakura, do you have any specific thing you’re looking forward to getting done?”

Sakura nodded eagerly,

“I did research and it said that your team does everything from surgery to re-doing your entire closet! And I wanted to get my glasses and braces gone!”

The woman smiled warmly,

“Alright! I think we can do that! Now lets go to our first stop.”

After a few moments, the limo halted to a stop, Midori filed out helping Sakura out before grabbing her hand happily and running into the building with an eager Sakura a few steps behind. Midori walked into the building, holding the door open for her and Hiroshi. Once they were in Midori walked over to a man in his early forty’s.

“This is Dr. Juro! He’s worked with us a lot! Now, we’re looking to get Sakura’s glasses removed permanently, think you can help us?”

Dr. Juro smiled, nodding his head and shaking Sakura’s hand followed by Hiroshi’s.

“I think I can! Now! Let me just ask your father a few questions before we get your glasses gone for good!”

Sakura smiled happily, as her father walked into another room with the eye doctor. She looked around the office quietly. It was modern, having white walls up with the ceiling being painted with elegant flowers. There was an wooden desk a few feet in front of her, a door leading into the back, it was cracked open slightly, showing the thousands of files from his patients. Midori smiled at Sakura.

“So! Are you excited?”

Sakura snapped her attention to the black haired female. Nodding eagerly,

“You have no idea!”

Midori smiled, beginning to talk to Sakura about school, her likes and dislikes, as well as how she got such a cool hair color. Sakura for once was happy to have her pink hair, the woman was really pretty, having long silky black hair that reached to her waist, being tied up into a pony tail and braided. Her bangs outlined her pale face, her eyes dark blue as the shimmered with brilliance.

“Sakura?”

Turning her attention to the doctor who smiled, motioning for her to follow him. She quickly stood up running past her father and following after Dr. Juro, a long pale green chair was in a dimly lit room. There was a computer near the tray, and a few things on the tray. Not having time to look them over as she took her glasses off handing them to the doctor, who walked out of the room for a moment. Sitting down onto the chair she pulled her hair out from the low pony tail she laid on the chair. Her father occupied a chair in the corner next to Midori, he talked to her casually, his eyes focused on his daughter as the eye doctor walked back into the room. Pulling a large light that outstretched from the arm rest on the chair, he hovered it over Sakura, straightening her chair out. Placing a large machine over her face and focusing on her right eye first.

“Alright, this might tingle a bit, but try your hardest not to blink.”

Sakura replied with a small nod, as they placed something on her eye to keep her eyelids from closing. The blinding light struck her eyes by surprise as she subconsciously tried to close her eye from the light, though it wasn’t happening, thanks to the small metal think keeping her eye wide open. After a few moments her eye adjusted to the blinding light.

A few hours had passed, and the only sound in the room was the occasional clicking of buttons, the roll of the doctor’s chair as he moved positions. And the occasional small talk between Midori and Hiroshi. After one last hour, he finished up on both eyes, pulling the machine away from her eyes he pulled the metal thing gently off her left eye allowing it to close in relief.

“Alright, now, to make sure it worked, we’re going to do an eye test.”

Her chair was pushed back into its up right position as she opened her eyes, widening with surprise as she looked around the room. A grin coming onto her face as she could see clearly, looking over to Dr. Juro as he stood across the room,

“Now, I want you to tell me what letters you see when I point to them. First off, can you see the smallest text here?”

He pointed to the last row, which was very tiny, Sakura brightly nodded. The doctor smiled in his reply before pointing to a random letter on the last row.

“L, D, R, Z, Q, X, H.”

“Good, now close one eye.”

Sakura closed her left eye first, looking at small text, not being able to contain the grin that came onto her face.

“R, L, H, Z, D.”

“Good, now the other eye.”

Sakura closed her right eye opening her left one.

“H, L, Z, D, Q.”

The doctor smiled, pulling off his gloves,

“Well! Looks like your perfectly fine! Twenty-twenty vision!”

Sakura sprang from her seat, grinning widely, and not caring if her braces were shown. She was to excited to care. Thanking the doctor, as well as her father. Midori quickly grabbed her hand and ran out to the limo once more.

“Ready for your next stop!?”

Sakura nodded, sitting next to father and staring out the window, she saw everything from a different perspective and was more excited then she had ever been. About ten minutes passed before the limo came to a stop again, Midori held her hand out for Sakura who grabbed it running along side Midori into the next building on their stop. Walking into the building, it was pretty much all white, having a few pictures of teeth on the wall, and the effects of drugs. Making her want to gag but she held that down and avoided the picture. Watching as a female walked up, Midori smiled at the brown haired woman, who smiled back.

“Sakura, Hiroshi, this is Dr. Chiyo, she’ll be the one to remove your braces!”

Sakura grinned brightly, as Chiyo held out her hand for Sakura. Who accepted it and walked into the back room, followed by her father and Midori. Laying on the chair that had recently been lowered down, she closed her eyes, to keep the blinding light from her eyes.

“Alright, this might hurt a bit Sakura.”

Sakura nodded a tiny bit, for the first half hour there was no pain, just the sound of her putting things back on the tray, and the occasional taste of gloves on her tongue. Though a few moments after the first half hour, pain surged into her mouth, as the dentist numbed her mouth out. After that, she was glad she didn’t feel anything. An hour passed as everything was completely silent, occasionally Chiyo would mutter something under her breath, though that would silence as soon as it came.

“Alright! All finished!”

The chair flung Sakura up unexpectedly as she almost fell forward and off the chair. Looking at the mirror Chiyo held up, she grinned brightly, looking at her bright white brace-less teeth. Squealing in delight she jolted up from the chair jumping up and down and flashing her father a bright smile, who grinned in response. Confidence slowly built up into her system, as she thanked the dentist, as well as her father before Midori thanked her also. The two girls sped out of the room. Already in the limo as Midori and Sakura motioned for him to follow.

“Come on oto-san!”

Her father smiled getting into the limo and closing the door as they took off again. The next stop had been the hair stylist, where they cut her long beautiful hair to her neck. Leaving her hair down, as her bangs framed the frame of her face. The mirror came to the front of her face, as she grinned brightly. Next stop, clothes, her father dreaded this and she could tell. Midori had giggled at his antics as he stayed in the car. They spent three hours shopping for clothes that Midori felt was perfect for her. When they came out of the store, they each held four large bags of clothes on each arm. Making a total of sixteen bags, getting into the limo, they drove home. Her father had fallen asleep in the limo, and she woke him up by dropping eight bags on top of him. Her father laughed hugging his daughter, who giggled in response. As they pulled up to their house they exited, grabbing all her bags and making her father carry most of them. As they walked up and into her house, Sakura turned around and bowed to Midori.

“Thank you very much Midori-san!”

Midori hugged Sakura tightly and smiled,

“It’s no problem! I’ll see you guys around if that’s okay?”

When Hiroshi nodded, Midori bid her farewell before leaving. Sakura screamed happily, her mother walking out, staring at her wide eyed and smiling at her daughter. Sakura ran passed her mother and into her room to put her new clothes away. Taking picture of herself as she uploaded them to her computer.
