Chapter 1: Hope to live on/A second chance

AN: The Inspiration for this fanfic series of mine, was strangely enough the insane comedy fic (think Evangelion gone Excel Saga) Observations by DarckRedd.

This fanfic is a bit of my own personal tribute/love-letter to Evangelion, because

let's face it: this series kicks ass!

The red sea of LCL was quiet.

Lillith-Rei's damaged head, fallen from the red night sky, eerily stared at the two.

The crucified Eva Series were also reminders of the insane destruction witnessed by one Ikari Shinji.

Third Impact.

And along with it, the rejection of Instrumentality.

"I feel disgusting."

A moment of silence passed between Asuka and Shinji.

He stood, his existence in reality having been more then confirmed.

Silent while his tears stopped.

Asuka sat up, looking around at red night sky, the red sea, and so on.

She shivered at the horror surrounding them.

"So..."

The redhead looked at Lillith-Rei's face while sitting.

"This is 3rd Impact."

Shinji, still standing, looked out as well.

"...Yeah."

Silence had reigned once more.

Chapter 1: A Second Chance

Shinji had told her all that happened (including the terrible thing he did to her) and began crying.

Asuka let out a sigh.

"Shinji..."

"What?"

"You...you did the right thing with saving the world, so you're not so stupid, after all."

"I...I'm sorry for how I treated you in the past. You really are worthy of having piloted Unit 01. I hope we can resolve our differences now."

But still...I can't believe what he did near me...Baka hentai! It's no wonder I feel so gross!

Shocked at her kind words, Shinji broke down.

Not even realizing it, he sobbed into her arms.

"But...but Asuka! What are we going to do?! We're the only ones left...! Misato-san...Ayanami...everyone's gone!!"

Holding his head in his hands, the boy cried out:

"Don't kill me...Be nice to me...HELP ME ASUKA!!"

Shinji...! I have to get him to calm down. If he goes into shock, I won't be able to help him.

Worried that he was so unstable, she stroked his cheek again, causing Shinji's eyes to widen.

"Shinji, it's alright."

Asuka began speaking as gently as Misato would.

"Your mother said so, right? That if they have the will to live, they'll return." "But...what if they..."

The fiery redhead replied in typical fashion: "Anta baka?! Of course they'll come back!"

Realizing her response, the girl blushed.

"Shinji...this isn't what you saw in your mind just before 3rd Impact occurred. I won't be cold to you. I'm really here with you. I...I'll help you...Just as long as you don't hurt me."

Not believing what he heard, Shinji started going into shock.

"Shinji!"

With that, Asuka did the only thing she can think of: she kissed him.

Omake Eva outtake:

"So...this is 3rd Impact..."

"Yeah..." "...Shinji?"

His heart pounds. "Yeah ...?"

"The First looks really creepy like that."

With that, Shinji promptly falls to ground with thud.

Preview: Shinji and Asuka adjust to being the only two humans to return, while Shinji seems to have grown up a bit. Could witnessing Third Impact have helped him mature?
