In a morning just like any other morning, Aziraphale rises form an empty bed and walks through an empty room, appraising himself in the mirror: heavy bruises, finger and tooth and claw marks marking him, claiming him. Aziraphale smiles, frowns, covers the beautifulterrifying marks up under layers of tweed, cotton, and pleasant English friendliness. They’re hidden, but not forgotten.

Not forgotten, because, after all, he’s meeting with the demon for lunch this afternoon.
