Earthlings and Aliens

Chapter Nine

The Doctor, Rose and Violet now stood outside of the warehouse, the captives now awake with the luxury of free minds. Violet had tried to explain to them what had happened, without use of the word alien, but had come up with nothing. So she let the Doctor take over, spieling off something Violet didn’t care to pay attention to while she stayed with her best friend, Rachel. Violet hugged her best friend tight, happy to see her alive and safe.

“Rob’s been so worried about you. He’s a wreck,” Violet said as she pulled Rachel to arms length. “You need to tell him you’re ok.”

‘I will,” Rachel said, a little distracted. She was staring round the place at all the old and new faces, trying to decipher for herself exactly what had happened.

“I guess you wanna know how you ended up here, right?” Violet asked with a nervous giggle.

“No, I’m not really sure I do,” Rachel answered. “It might bring about too many questions. One thing I would like to know is who those two are.” Rachel nodded behind Violet, motioning towards the Doctor and Rose. Violet turned to find them watching her, the rest of Violet’s friends having left after believing the Doctor’s story, whatever it was.

“Now that really would bring about too many questions,” Violet said, turning back to Rachel. “Maybe I’ll tell you some other time.”

“Maybe you will,” Rachel said, smiling at her friend. “For now, I think I’ll take your advice and go see Rob.”

The friends hugged again, neither wanting any more to do with this subject.

“Thank you, for whatever you did back there,” Rachel said softly as she pulled away. “Tell that to your friends too, whoever they are.” And she left, Violet watching as she walked back to her normal life, blissfully unaware of everything that had really happened.

Once Rachel was gone from sight, Violet turned and walked to the Doctor and Rose, wishing she could have that kind of ignorance after everything she had seen.

“Cutting it a bit fine in there weren’t you,” Violet said to the Doctor as she stopped in front of him. “Why were you so sure they would show?”

“I’ve told you, I always know,” the Doctor said with a cheeky smirk.

“What about you?” Rose asked Violet. “How did you know? I mean, you told me to stay back.”

“I don’t know how I knew, I just did. I was actually hoping you might be able to shed some light on the matter,” Violet said to the Doctor.

“What do you mean?” the Doctor asked.

“Well, I knew form them. From the Croxans. When they tried to hypnotise me, which they couldn’t do by the way. I guessed that had something to do with you.”

“Yeah. A side effect, I’m afraid. From when I read your mind. I inadvertedly blocked anyone else from tampering with your mind.”

“In this case a good side effect. So when they tried, it backfired. I saw inside their minds instead. How is that possible?”

“I didn’t think it was. I mean, to be able to use a blocked mind control to see inside someone else mind, you need at least a small amount of psychic abilities.”

“Are you saying I’m psychic?” Violet asked, kinda shocked but still kinda excited about the fact she could have cool mind powers.

“Basically. It would explain the influential thing. With psychic abilities, they’d think you’d have more of a hold over the human race to be able to turn them. So what did you see in their minds that told you we had help coming?”

“I saw those creatures and how terrified the Croxans were of them. And after what you said about finding out about them, I kinda figured it out. What were those things by the way?”

“They are….”

“Right behind you,” Rose finished for him as the remaining two turned to find the six creatures heading towards them five stopped a few feet from them while one, clearly the leader, carried on walking towards them. The creature stopped a few inches from them, it and the Doctor staring at each other.

As the girls watched from behind the Doctor, the creature changed form. It changed from the wolf like creature to a young woman, standing tall and elegant above the three.

“Doctor,” the woman said fondly, holding her hands out to him, which he took.

“Yavana,” the Doctor replied. “Thank you, to you and your people, for everything you’ve done for us.”

“Of course. After everything you’ve done for us, me and my people are more than happy to help.”

“I hope this isn’t the last we see of each other.”

“It won’t be. But for mow, this is goodbye.” Smiling at the Doctor, Yavana turned back to her companions, changing bag into her dog like form as she and the others swept away in the shadows.

“Wow. So werewolves do exist,” Violet joked, knowing all too well they were more alien that werewolf.

“They’re Lycrosca’s,” the Doctor said in answer to Violet’s earlier question. “Enemy to the Croxans but friend to me. And they probably are where all your werewolf culture began. They’ve been around for centuries longer than the human race has.”

He turned back to the two girls, smiling widely again.

“Time to go,” he said as he bounded off in front of them.

ooooOOOOoooo

The three stood in front of the TARDIS again, but this was the last time for Violet and she knew it. They had saved the day, and now they were gonna leave. Saying her goodbye, Violet held Rose in a tight hug. They may have got off to a bad start, but they had just saved the world together. That changed things.

‘I’m gonna kinda miss having another girl around,” Rose said as they pulled apart. “As much as I love my days with him, he can get a little….”

‘I know what you mean,” Violet said, giggling as she saw Rose struggle for the right thing to say.

“Try not to get in anymore trouble while we’re gone,” Rose said as she laughed along with Violet.

“I’ll try,” Violet said. And with one last smile of friendship, Rose stepped into the TARDIS, leaving Violet and the Doctor alone.

They both stood awkwardly, really not knowing what to say about everything that had happened. Violet had seen so many new things, thanks to the Doctor and Rose, and she didn’t know how to categorise it in her mind yet.

“Well, I’m not really good with goodbye’s,” the Doctor said, finally breaking the silence.

“Me either,” Violet answered with a laugh. “Although I am good with thank yous.” She was, but right now, she couldn’t think of a good enough way to thank the Doctor for everything he had done for her. Everything she had seen him do for the human race.

“You’ve shown me so many things I never thought could exist,” she said after a pause. “You saved my life, more than once.” Finding no way to properly say just how thankful to him she really was, Violet leaned up and kissed the Doctor gently on his cheek.

“Thank you,” she whispered as she leaned down. Her eyes were glistening with tears, but she wouldn’t let them fall. After everything, she wouldn’t cry for this.

The Doctor looked into the strong girls eyes and saw the unshed tears. He smiled softly for the now frail girl and pulled her into a final farewell hug.

“Your welcome,” he whispered to her before he pulled away and walked to the TARDIS, looking back only once as he entered it.

ooooOOOOoooo

Violet stood and watched the TARDIS vanish, knowing deep down she would never see the Doctor or Rose again. That was just the way it was, and she knew that. They were two travellers, saving the day wherever they landed. And they never landed in the same place twice.

“Goodbye Doctor,” Violet said quietly into the air as the TARDIS faded from sight.
