It's lonely and tired in the apartment. She sleeps with another man in his bed and despite Logan's long-term absence, she makes Jess leave before the sun sets because then it will haunt her.

He doesn't like the arrangement, Jess, doesn't want to be involved with a woman that isn't his, isn't willing to be his, but she begs and pleads and there's an innocence there for a brief moment, an innocence that hasn't existed since he broke her heart all those years ago, that he can't resist. Its innocence, he knows, that he also can't trust.

And so he leaves before the phone rings and she has to be torn and ripped in all the delicate places.

She doesn't do well with the lying. The lying, the hiding, but she doesn't know how else to do it because she loves Logan, she really does, but Jess makes her feel something else. Something she can't describe, except to say that it isn't... Sometimes, she thinks it might be lust.

It hurts to think about it, about Logan and Jess and how it fits. It hurts to try naming any of it.

But then the phone rings and she stops thinking.
