Shitsuren: Broken Hearts
By: Niongi
Summary: Hearts are Broken, they mend and heal, and are broken again. Finding the person that only heals and keeps your heart, but never breaks it is a truly difficult task. But the question is can anyone truly find that person?
I know you are wondering why the first few chapters are Rin and Sesshoumaru, but please bear with me; there is such thing as a plot and this is a KagSess Fic.
People: WTH IT’S RINSESS
Niongi: Do you pay attention?
People: No…
Niongi: SHUT UP AND READ THE STORY AND THEN YOU WILL KNOW…that my story’s plot is getting to a Kag Sess Fic so shoo.
People: Yes ma’am!
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha … I wish I did but it ain’t happening. All I do is break the characters’ hearts and get out my sewing box to fix what I did.
Chapter One: Faithful Beginnings-Sesshoumaru’s Mansion-
“I will be lenient this time, since it has been at least ten years since you last disobeyed me.” Sesshoumaru’s voice sounded irritated, his face was passively aggressive. His hair hung about his strong frame, and draped beautifully over his chair. Sesshoumaru looked as beautiful and regal as when Rin first saw him: at that time, he had long, bluish-silver hair to the back of his knees, honey-colored eyes, and exotic markings on his forearms and face. Rin, however, now eighteen, had grown into a beautiful young woman: her hair was now long and brown, and her body no longer belonged to a rambunctious little girl; now she had all the right curves in all the right places.
“Arigatou gouzaimasu Sesshoumaru-sama, I will not disobey you again.” Rin sometimes wandered away from her Master, which usually resulted in near death experiences, but Sesshoumaru-sama always saved her... not without consequence, however. Usually, some form of punishment was to be expected, but oddly enough, Sesshoumaru-sama did not punish her today.
“You are to stay in your room for the rest of the day. Do you understand, Rin?”
The two vassals who were stationed at the door exchanged looks when they heard Sesshoumaru speak those unusually serene words.
“Hai master, moushiwake arimasen master, I will not leave the keep again,” Rin said again, as she bowed respectfully to the ground.
“Rin?” Sesshoumaru inquired; Rin looked up, saw his disapproving look, and looked down again.
“Hai, Master,” Rin continued to look at the ground. Sesshoumaru’s heart skipped a beat when he smelled a familiar musk, which just so happened to come from the young woman. Young woman…yes, Rin was of age now…but she was human…How could he possibly care for this woman? “The way any husband would-” Sesshoumaru paused, wondering what had caused him to recall such a ridiculous memory. Upon pondering this, he made a decision.
“Rin, walk with me.” Sesshoumaru stood up from his chair. His armor was on its stand in the corner; instead of this, he wore his usual kimono. His sword, Toukijin, was on its protective stand in the corner. Below it was a place for the Tenseiga, but only dust occupied its place. He left them, for he felt no need for armor or weapons in his own house while loyal vassals stood on guard. Seeing Rin’s anxious expression, he exclaimed, “No Rin you’re not in trouble, come.” Rin stood up shakily, and walked up to Sesshoumaru; her eyes were wide and full of fright. ‘Don’t be afraid of me, Rin.’
Sesshoumaru turned and walked outside to the garden. Rin followed him decisively. The grass was thick, green, and cool; flowers bloomed all about, as if Mother Earth was relinquishing its precious children from inside herself in order to provide a chance for them to bask in the sun’s warmth. The garden was designed with a dog’s nose in mind, for every flower was lightly scented and had a simple elegance.
Rin had difficulty keeping up with her master’s pace as they walked further into the garden, for her robes stifled her ankles when she began to shuffle too fast. She reflected on how much longer and more elaborate her current robes were when compared to those she had worn as a child; the gentle colors of spring splashed over the kimono in intricate threading. Sesshoumaru-sama had provided this beautiful kimono, along with many others, as she grew older and less devious. He had even hired a human Lady of the noble class to teach Rin. Although Rin excelled considerably, her teacher soon discovered that she could be very clumsy.
Rin looked up at her master; surprisingly, he had not even been disappointed to find that she was still loud and immature. Her heart warmed and thudded loudly when she thought of his words of comfort for her and the ‘dismissal’ of her teacher.
‘Rin are you all right?’
‘Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama.’
‘Good.’
Her master stopped and put a hand on the goshinboku in the middle of the garden. Rin watched confusedly, for she had never known of the tree’s existence, even though she had lived with Sesshoumaru for the past nine years. Her eyes watered slightly as she tried to concentrate on the tree itself. Its leaves were green and thick, its branches heavy with beautiful buds, and the trunk was worn and old, weathered by all it had seen. Sesshoumaru noticed her dizziness and unhooked the demonic ward.
“Rin, do you see this tree weathered by time?” Sesshoumaru barely inclined his head to the mortal woman, waiting while she contemplated her answer. ‘Time…yes it’s a Goshinboku. I’ve only seen one other one…but why does Sesshoumaru-sama…?’
“Hai, it is just like the one in Inuyasha-sama’s forest.”
“Yes, it is in fact the brother of that tree; it’s called ‘The God-Tree of Broken Hearts’; it has many memories…” Sesshoumaru turned his head back to the tree, looking it over; its thick twisted branches and smooth bark reminded him of a day much like this one.
‘Sesshoumaru-chan, come to your Hahaue. Do you see this tree?”
“Hai.”
“This is where I found your name. I was watching the stars and I decided…”
Sesshoumaru shook his head of thoughts better forgotten. Rin licked her lips nervously, all the while tugging and fidgeting with the ends of her kimono. Brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear, Rin whispered softly, as if she was disturbing the hallowed silence, “What kind of memories, Sesshoumaru-sama?”
-Exterminators Village-
“Ah! We finally finished the laundry.” Kagome smiled at Sango while she pulled another kimono down from the line. The wind blew the last few occupied lines and the sun was dull and sweet. It would be noon soon. Several sakura trees blossomed around the deserted village.
“Wow, the soap from your time works really well, Kagome. Did you make it yourself?” Kagome’s sweat dropped as she shook her head from side to side; “No way, Sango, I bought that from a store; it’s called Tide.” Sango smiled and pulled some sheets down, setting them in the basket.
“Oh, you bought it from a store. Like when you had those strange, writing brushes; what were they called?”
“Oh, you must mean pens! Yep, just like that, except this soap is from a bigger store. I’m surprised that bandits didn’t steal all of this stuff, Sango. All they got was your rice; but then again, even that was sitting outside of the main house. Why didn’t they steal all the weapons, clothes or even like the bedding?” Sango and Kagome folded a rather large futon and put it in the next basket. The gentle knock of a wooden mallet was audible every now and then, because Miroku and Inuyasha were fixing up all of the houses.
“Well, Kagome, my home has a strange charm. If a human with bad intentions comes to us, they will get distracted and go somewhere else. That’s why only demons could attack this house in the first place. The charm only protects against humans, not demons.”
“Oh…well, we’ll just fix it up the best we can for your family!” Kagome sighed and smiled at the sky, thinking ‘I can’t believe we are going to revive Sango’s village. It’s even harder to believe that it’s been a whole year since we defeated Naraku. Now Sango and Kohaku are going to rebuild their home. Kohaku…I was so surprised when Inuyasha’s brother helped him.’
“No he’ll die! Don’t take the shard from his back, Sesshoumaru-sama.” Sango lunged for Sesshoumaru, but Miroku held onto her. Sesshoumaru ignored the woman and took a hold of the boy’s collar, pulling him closer. The sky was dark, almost unnerving; Naraku was coming.
“Sesshoumaru-sama knows what he’s doing Sango-chan. He won’t hurt Kohaku.” After saying this, Miroku cautiously let go of his hold on Sango.
Sesshoumaru turned Kohaku around and ripped the tainted shard from his back. The shard was black and purple, tarnished by the evil deeds of Naraku. Sesshoumaru frowned and tossed it to Inuyasha, saying, “Give that to your woman, Inuyasha.” Inuyasha caught the shard and handed it quickly to Kagome; with a single touch, the shard turned a light shade of pink, sparkling in her hand. Kohaku moaned softly from pain, weakly pushing against Sesshoumaru’s armor. “Don’t fight me, boy.”
“Sesshoumaru, what are you going to do? He’ll die without that shard.” Inuyasha frowned while he watched Sesshoumaru pull out the Tenseiga.
“Do not be so ignorant, Inuyasha. I too carry a fang from our Father.” Sesshoumaru glanced at the pitiful shell of Kohaku and swung Tenseiga over him. The sky grew darker; Naraku was getting closer.
‘ I didn’t think Sesshoumaru could be so nice, but considering that Naraku took that little girl and the toad away from Sesshoumaru…he would do everything in his power to destroy Naraku. Well, I guess I need to get all these clothes inside.’
She glanced at Sango, who was still taking down all the futons, nodded, and picked up the heavy basket. Hauling the basket back to the house was tiresome work, but she eventually saw Inuyasha’s red coat and Miroku’s staff lying on the porch. “Wah, finally! Hey, guys! Wow, it looks great; the two of you are really working hard. She beamed up at them while she set her basket down, “In a bit we should all take a break. I brought lunches for everyone.”
“Keh! Like you know what hard work is.” Inuyasha yelled, putting down another shingle; he crossed his arms and glared at the baka onna.
“Why you! Sango and I have been working all morning. These clothes don’t just wash themselves you know.” Kagome yelled back, and pointed a finger at him, “We are working really hard; even Kohaku is working, and he’s still injured.”
“Right, keep telling yourself that, stupid.” Inuyasha stuck his tongue out at her.
“INUYASHA!” Kagome pointed her finger at him, “Si-” Miroku quickly pushed Inuyasha off the roof to the ground, and grinned at him, “-t boy!”
“Ahh! Why did you go and do that!?!” Inuyasha yelled, even though his voice was muffled in the dirt; his face was completely smashed.
“Now, now, Inuyasha, we can’t have you making Lady Kagome mad, because then she might sit you on the house he just repaired. You shouldn’t make Lady Kagome so angry, Inuyasha, that’s not how you seduce a woman.” Miroku raised his eyebrows suggestively.
“Miroku, get your hands off Kagome.” Sango’s eyes were wide with rage, and she smacked her soon-to-be husband up the side of his head with her basket; “Come on, Kagome, we need to put these away. My father’s third brother will be sending his sons and their families soon.”
-Please Review BUT keep in mind that this is a Kag/Sess Fic not a RinSess it just starts out that way-
