A Meeting
Jonothon Starsmore wandered around the empty dark streets of London, England. He tried to stay hidden for the previous days, sleeping in all the hotel rooms he could actually acquire with his new appearance. At least at night not so many people wandered around, so he could walk freely. His new look did attract more glares from people than his bandages ever did, so he tried to ignore the few people that would dare to pass by him.
He was still mad about what had happened. He wished he was still in that hospital bed. It was better than this. He hated having this ‘Apocalypse Junior’ look. It didn’t suit him, it didn’t feel like him. He was living in someone else’s skin.
Even when he left the place of the foolish Apocalypse clan, New Excalibur tried to help him, tried to convince him to join their team just like any other happy X-men team would attempt. However, he didn’t fucking want to join any team. He just wanted to be alone. Ever since he had joined up with Generation X, he had seen nothing but sorrow, pain and annoyance. Ever since he actually graduated from that team, all the other mini X-teams all asked him to help them. Like they actually gave him any sort of help or feeling. He’d suffered heartbreak, he’d suffered the loss of close friends, and now he was suffering fake concern from people he didn’t even know. He was also suffering from his new look. Even though that last reason was quite vain, it wasn’t like anyone wanted to look like Apocalypse.
Jono had no idea where he was going to go next, or what he was going to do. He couldn’t go back to that hospital, and he was certainly not going to the X-mansion, or any other bases related to them. He was going to deal with this on his own, somehow. Besides, what person would really care about him now? At least when he had the bandages, he could pass for human, now he was even more of a monster, even more of a freak. To top it all off he didn’t even have his powers anymore. Yeah, he was really living the high life now.
He sighed as he ducked into a nearby alley. He leaned against one of the buildings and stared down at his now grey hands. Yes, grey skin, blue lips, red eyes and god awful tattoos. He touched his lips again. They were the biggest change. The other members of Apocalypse’s little fan club just looked like they were wearing blue lipstick, but not Jono. No, he had the whole treatment, including the lines leading from the lips. At least he still had his shaggy head of hair. He wouldn’t have been able to deal with the bald Apocalypse look. Yeah, he still had his hair. That was the only shard of him that remained.
“Gee, light up.” A perky voice stated. Jono raised his head, coming face to face with a girl he hadn’t seen in quite awhile. She looked pretty much the same as she did the last time she met, but her hair was shorter, and her face looked colder and almost empty. Yeah, she had lost her powers too.
“I’m as light as I can be.” He remarked, making her roll her eyes. She shoved her hands into her coat pockets and leaned against the opposite building.
“I see that.” She spoke.
“What are yer doing here?” he asked with a sigh.
“I got told of what happened to you, so I wanted to see for myself. “she explained. “You look a lot different then when I saw you in the hospital.”
“You visited me?”
“Yeah. Once. You weren’t awake or something. I don’t even know.” She muttered, staring at the ground. “Ya know, you’re a lot stronger than I was. When I figured out my powers were gone all I could do was reminisce and cry.”
They both gave each other a slight nod, having some understanding to what the other one was going through. Jubilee sighed and came closer to him. She touched his face, almost unsure that the grey skin was real. She frowned.
“Who exactly did this to you anyways?” she continued.
“Some people a little to obsessed with old blue lips.” He muttered. “That Excalibur team tried to help me, saying they were sorry for me. I had enough of their bull and took off.”
“Yeah, Dazzler’s the one who told us everything. Paige called me and told me.” She murmured back. His eyes widened at the thought of his ex-girlfriend being aware of his new appearance. He perked an eyebrow.
“How did yer get here?”
“I walked. Whadda ya think, Sparky, I flew here and a plane and came ta see ya.” She informed. “Oh, sorry. I shouldn’t have called you that.”
“The loss of my powers doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers you.” He uttered. Jubilee shrugged.
“What can I say, I loved them. My powers were apart of me, Jono. You may not have been happy to be a mutant, but I was. Those fireworks got me out of a whole lotta stuff. They may have caused me problems, but hey, I got outta them.” She whispered. “Deep down, ya gotta miss yers too.”
“If I was never a mutant I would never have lost my chest the first and second time. I would never have crippled Gayle, and I wouldn’t look like this now.” He scowled. Jubilee folded her arms.
“That may be true, but ya don’t wish it. Without your mutant powers, you wouldn’t a met Paige and you wouldn’t have met the rest of us totally hip people from Generation X.” she pointed out.
“Yeah.” he nodded, finally beaten.
“So what are you going to do now?” she questioned.
“I don’t know. What about yer?”
“I don’t know. Keep living this crappy life I guess. My life with no action, no thrills and no fire works.” She complained.
“Yer’ll survive.”
“I’m tryin’.” She assured him. She looked around the alley and then back up at him. “So ya just hang around here all day, then jump out when people come by and try to spook em out, or are you just feeling low and decided to hang out by some garbage?”
“I have nowhere to go and I’m trying to figure out something to do, something I can do.”
“Go to the X-mansion.”
“No.”
“Don’t blame ya. It’s not like they’d let you in anyways. You might look like a mutant, but you’re not one. I guess they have this strict no humans rule now. Even I wasn’t allowed in. They even got frickin sentinels guardin’up the place!” she exclaimed. “Even if they weren’t, I couldn’t go there. The jealousy would be unbearable, and I don’t think I could even talk to Wolvie. I tried calling him, but I don’t know what to say to him or any of them. Hell, I wouldn’t even have talked to Paige if she didn’t call my cell.”
“Sentinels? That’s bloody insane. Do you even have a place in New York?” he asked her. Jubilee shook her head.
“I mostly just stay at my friend’s house. It’s better than being a hobo like you.”
“I am not a hobo.” He shot back. Jubilee shrugged.
“Where’s your house then?” she challenged. Jono sighed and stared up at the sky. He never would have thought he would be hanging in an alley in England with Jubilee at his side talking about how they had nothing left anymore. It sounded extreme, but it was true. Jubilee didn’t have the X-men or her powers; he didn’t have his powers, his life, his anything anymore. Both were emptier than words could describe.
“Say, I’ve got a crazy idea.” She started, immediately grasping Jono’s attention. “Why don’t I hang around England for awhile, with you? We can deal with this no powers thing together. It could be like the old days, minus a few people, and minus our powers, and plus your new makeover.”
“Us together?” he frowned
“Don’t act so repulsed.” She snapped. “It could be interesting. We could get our own theme song.”
“I don’t know. I was going to deal with this on my own.”
“And look where it’s got you, blue lips.”
“My name is Jonothon.”
“I remember.” She pointed out with a smile. “Look I know it’s hard, and I know pretty much everyone I get close to likes to deal with crap on their own, but you don’t have to. I’m offering you a chance to deal with something not on your own, but with someone else. Ya game, Jono, or do I have to force you into this?”
“Fine, but don’t call me any more Apocalypse related names.” He sighed. Jubilee grinned and grabbed onto his wrist. She then pulled him out of the alley and back to the streets, already in search of a new life for the both of them.
To Be Continued….
A/N: Okay, this is my first attempt at something focusing on Jono and Jubilee so go easy on me, please. This was more friendship bit than anything else, but it will turn into something more.I was quite nervous about posting it and I still am, but I did anyways. I was a bit upset about what happened to Jono in the last New Excalibur issue, so I wanted to do something to help me get over it. So if you like it, please review and tell me. This was going to be a oneshot, but somehow it has turned into a fic, that will have about ten chapters give or take. The title might change, but I don't know yet. Gah anyways, I hope everyone who reads this likes it.
