Testing
Jono would be pretending if he said he was thrilled to go see Excalibur for the test. Yeah, thrilled was the last thing he was feeling. He and Jubilee had just told three of the members off and slammed the door in their faces. Well, that last part was really Jubilee's doing, but it wasn't like Jono opened it back up and apologized for her behavior.
"Okay, I have my jacket. Ready to go?" Jubilee perked up as she emerged from her bedroom. Jono nodded and opened the front door. The two of them frowned at who was standing right in front of them. Sage, or Tessa, was right there, staring at them. She had her arms laying at her side and a serious look on her face.
"Why are yer still here?" Jono questioned, folding his arms. The woman looked up at him and lowered her tech glasses.
"Simple. I looked at the situation from your point of view. I knew you would come to your senses after we left, and that you would want the tests done to make sure your new abilities aren't so harmful and uncontrollable that they would cause pain to the girl beside you. I stayed behind and told the others to go back to our base. I knew you would be out here within moments, so I waited. However, Wisdom is not that patient." she explained.
"Wow." Jubilee breathed. Sage nodded.
"It is a good thing I stayed behind too, due to the fact you have no idea as to where our base even is, and you will need me to bring you there. I have a car waiting, now, follow me." she added in. Sage turned around and walked out of the apartment building. Jono and Jubilee exchanged blank looks before following her, each surprised with Sage's actions.
The ride to the base was quite silent. Jono and Jubilee sat in the backseat while Sage drove in the front. Every so often Jono would sneak a look to see what Jubilee was doing. Every time she was performing the same action; staring out the window.
"It's a bit of a drive. We should be there soon enough." Sage spoke from the front. Jono and Jubilee nodded in unison to her words, but then succumbed to silence once again. Jono shrugged and began to look out the window by him. This time, Jubilee was the one who stole a glance at him. She didn't want to say it, but she was worried that these tests would do something bad, or prove something that would make him have to stay with the team. She bit her lip. Things were so much simpler when it was her who had to do the cheering up.
'Jubilee?' Jono projected. The Asian girl's eyes widened at the telepathic ring inside her head. Old little trick he was playing, well sort of. 'It will be okay.'
'Oh, so now you're mister telepathic, huh?' she thought, a small grin forming. He shrugged.
'I could sense some things back at the flat, so I thought I'd try it out on you.' he admitted. Jubilee nodded and gave him another smile.
'Sounds just like before' she added in. It really did sound like his telepathic voice she had become accustomed to all those years in Generation X; however, it was louder and a bit stronger. This time, he could hear what she was thinking as well, it wasn't just her hearing him. That was pretty cool, but at the same time she found herself growing envious. Here he was with all of these new powers, even trying them out on her, and her own little hands couldn't 'paf' a little firework. Yeah, envy was really the word to use here.
Jono rolled his eyes at his stupid actions. He shouldn't have done that. He could have spoken to her, not branched out using his new abilities. He could sense the jealousy she was feeling. Hell, it was practically pouring off of her. He silently sighed. Yeah, great going. He had just promised himself not to use any powers unless it was an emergency. Though, he hadn't thought about the telepathy, just the blast. Maybe he could use telepathy every once and awhile, for privacy, or maybe for fun. He would have to refrain for a little while though. Jubilee was more important right now.
“So, are we there yet?” Jubilee sighed, looking towards Sage. The woman gave a slight nod, keeping her eyes on the road.
“I’m sorry.” Jono whispered, grabbing the Asian’s attention. Jubilee stared at him for a minute, perking her eyebrow.
“For what?”
“I shouldn’t have used my telepathy.” He admitted. She shrugged.
“It doesn’t matter, Sparky, you have powers and you have the right to use them. Go ahead if you want. Sides, you got all these new abilities ya have tah try out and I can’t stop you.” She replied. Jono rolled his eyes. There was barely any truth in that sentence and it was obvious. However she said it anyways and then went back to staring out the window. Part of him just wanted to take her hand and tell her it was going to be alright, and that she’d get her powers back someday, but really, that was just a load of bull and she would see right through it.
After another short while of silence, Sage stopped the car and everyone got out. Excalibur’s base was no different than any of the other x-team bases, just the basic place to hang around until you had missions.
As Sage lead them inside the base, Jubilee had that jealousy broil up inside her again. She rolled her eyes. She wasn’t here to envy the powers of Excalibur, or of Jono. She was here to make sure that her friend was okay while he had tests done on his energy levels. She folded her arms and walked right along side Jono. She noticed the somber look he had on his face. He really didn’t want to be here. She bit her lip. She had been bitching about how it wasn’t fair that Jono had his powers when he didn’t even want him, she didn’t even think about how the powers were affecting him. Hell, the guy was probably terrified. Last time he had powers emerge, he paralyzed his girlfriend and obtained a hole in his chest. Jubilee frowned. She was being much too selfish.
“Just go into that room. Wisdom will be waiting for you.” Sage announced, gesturing to a thick door at the right. She pointed a bit down the hall. “Jubilee please come with me. You can observe if you wish.”
The two nodded and parted ways. Jono went inside the room while Jubilee walked with Sage. The younger girl remained silent as she was brought to an observation deck. Sage closed the door behind them.
“Just stand over there by the glass. You should be able to see Jono perfectly.” She told her. Jubilee nodded and neared the large window. She looked down, instantly seeing Jono and Wisdom. She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she imagined Jono was being quite hostile, only saying he was here to make sure his powers couldn’t hurt anyone,
She folded her arms as she leered down. The tests had started. Wisdom was running some sort of scanner around Jono.
“He will be alright.” Sage announced as she stood next to Jubilee. The girl looked upwards and shot a weak smile.
“I know.” She murmured.
“You shouldn’t take it so harshly, not having your powers. I’m surer this little crisis of mutant kind will eventually come to-“
“Easy for you to say. You still have your powers, miss-know-it-all. I don’t need your pity, Kay? I can survive without my powers, and I have been.” Jubilee sneered. Sage nodded.
“So I assume you speak with Wolverine from time to time.” She started.
“Well I---hey, how do you know about me and Logan?” Jubilee demanded. Sage gave a quick little smirk.
“I am miss-know-it-all as you said. I have met Wolverine and I have been on teams with him before. I am sure he misses you.”
“Ya, well that’s really none of your business, is it Sage? I’ll talk to Wolvie when I damn well feel like it. I mean, he’s an X-man; he has important things to do. Besides, I’m all busy with Jono trying to make sure he doesn’t forget to eat and such.” Jubilee shot back. She inched away from Sage and focused down on her friend below.
“He really cares for you.”
“Well duh, I care for him too. That’s what makes us friends.” Jubilee snapped. She really shouldn’t have been acting so rude towards Sage. The woman was just trying to make conversation while Jono had his tests down, and maybe if Jubilee felt like talking, she would have not been so haste to Sage’s words. She just sighed and inched away from the window. She didn’t even want to be here anymore. Hopefully, whatever tests Jono had to go through wouldn’t take that long.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
Jono was annoyed. All Wisdom had been ranting on about since he entered the damn room was his energy levels. If it wasn’t for Jubilee, he wouldn’t be here. He knew they were going to be here for awhile and he wasn’t too happy about that.
Every now and then, he would glance up to see Sage and Jubilee watching him. When he looked up the last time, he saw Sage but no Jubilee. He didn’t think too much into it, assuming she had to go to the bathroom or just felt like sitting down.
“How long is this going ter take?” Jono finally questioned. Wisdom grabbed a hold of a chart on a nearby table and then stared at the younger male in front of him.
“You’re going to be here awhile. If you want a break, just go bloody take one.” He shot back. Jono rolled his eyes and walked out the door. Maybe he’d go see Jubilee, wherever she went off to. He shrugged. There was no bother to go search for her. He’d have to go back in that room in a few minutes anyways. He just leaned against the wall and let out a large sigh. In all truths he just wanted to go home with her and talk things over power wise. He was worried about her. The way he used to be worried about Paige. He cursed himself for that. Out of all the girls he knew, Jubilee was the one he shouldn’t have been thinking like that about. Sure, she was a very pretty girl, awesome personality and she knew how to have fun, but still, she was off limits. She was off limits.
Yet, she could not leave his mind. He rolled his eyes. That was going to be a little difficult not to project with his new telepathy and all.
Before he could think anymore into the subject of Jubilation Lee, Wisdom poked his head from out of the room and glared at Jono.
“Breaks over.” He announced. Jono shrugged again and walked back into the room. To his surprise, Sage was now present. He perked an eyebrow, wondering how she had gotten there. Then he noticed the elevator in the back corner of the room. He really could have gone up to see Jubilee. Oh well, the time was lost now.
“Why are yer down here?” he demanded.
“Your friend was not enjoying my company, and Wisdom is going to need me for these tests anyways. If you wish to see her in awhile, I will take you up to her. I believe she is a little worried for your well being.” Sage answered.
Jono just nodded and went back to where he was standing. Sage pulled on her tech glasses and began to stare at him.
“Interesting.” She whispered.
“What, looking at me in the shade of red?” Jono snapped. Sage shook her head.
“Your DNA. It’s different. That is of no surprise to me, however, seeing as what you went through with that clan. I can see your mutant gene. It’s quite vibrant. It’s practically glowing. Can you tell me what abilities have surfaced so far?” she asked him as she began to circle his body.
“Th’ blast I had before, but more control to it, and some telepathy.” He muttered.
“No levitation?” she continued. He perked an eyebrow. Synch was able to fly with his powers when he used them before he died, but Jono had never been capable to perform such a task. He just shook his head. She gave him a nod before taking off her tech glasses.
“I have done my job Wisdom, finish up with the energy level tests, I’m sure he and his friend are eager to get home.” Sage announced before she turned to go back to the elevator. Jono glared at her.
“What do yer mean by that?” he called to her. She shrugged, hiding a small grin before going back to the observation deck.
