Distant Star
Author:
Silver Sailor Ganymede PM
A rather abstract poem. Polaris is the brightest star in the sky, but nevertheless it is cold, aloof and distant to Earth.

Distant Star
By Silver Sailor Ganymede

The stars do not have feelings
Nor do they have faces
What they show to most
Is not what they are in truth
They are distant to us
Aloof and unkind, silent
The stars have no true identities
They thrive on mysteries
On riddles and lies
The stars may say they love
And have obsessions
Just as others would
But in truth they are distant to us
Distant to all on earth
No matter how bright they may appear
They are not bright
They are not close
They are forever out of our reach
In coldness and sadness
The stars dwell in the night
Showing their true ways to but a few
And in the north one star
Shines brighter than the rest
Shining in mock-happiness and silence
Never telling us its true aims
This star is the brightest of all
The guidance star
The leader
And that star has a name
It is Polaris
